I am looking for portable target turning systems to use with silhouette size targets. They must be able to be controlled remotely. I am interested in buying, but most likely making my own turning targets. Most of the turning targets that I am finding on the web are prohibitively expensive. Unless someone can point me to something that is only a few hundred bucks I am going to have to build my own.

So far I have found these 2 examples in the build it yourself category:

PVC frame

Windshield wiper motor

I like the idea for the partial pvc frame of the first example. I think I could use metal in place of the wood along with more pvc to strengthen it up a bit.

What I am trying to figure out now is what I will use to make the target turn. I am thinking either an air ram or an electric motor. I don't think that the wiper motor in the example above will suit my needs.

Any suggestions on what to use to turn the target ?

How about a power door lock actuator. You just need the push pull motion and that is all the door lock motor does.

Put the frame on a swivel. Attach the lock motor to a simple arm. Adjust the stop points and go.

I don't think a power door lock motor would be strong enough either. The target is gonna have alot more mass and air resistance the a car door lock.
