| It looks like we might be getting rid of our full size M16A2's and getting M16A2 carbines (14.5 inch barrels and collasable stocks). We currently use 3 point tac slings on the full size rifles. We will get new slings for the carbines, question is what kind. I have a couple requests to go to a single point sling (mainly because the local SWAT has them). I am not convinced, mainly because we are not SWAT, we are security/patrol with a lot of carrying and little actual use of the rifle. I would appreciate hearing from you all who have used both and the pros/cons of each. Like I said we are not running and gunning, we are patroling and checking buildings/personnel. |

http://www.vickerstactical.com/Tips/carbineSlings.htm Here is a little something to help with good and bad points on the 3 methods. I personally carry a 2 pt VTAC, but would feel good with a Vickers VCAS too from the exposure I have with them. Do you guys have the choice of putting the sling you want for your issued gun? Find out what specfic reasons the guys that want 1pts actually want them. See if they're aware of the disadvantages. |
| I used the Viking Tactics Wide Padded VTAC Sling during a Tactical Shooting Instructor Course. I liked the sling but if I had it to do over again, I'd use the original unpadded version. I found the wide pad hung up with other gear on my tac vest. If you're not using a tac vest and don't have the harnesses/straps from other gear over your shoulders; then you probably won't have a problem using the padded version and will be more comfortable with the weapon hanging in front of you for long periods |
