Whats the deal with them, where do you buy them, can you get one that threads onto a standard barrel.  I'm just thinking about DCM and my failing eyes need all the sight radius they can get.  I had been thinking about a custom 24" barrel with an extra front sight base pinned right at the end of the barrel, but a bloop tube might do better.

Quoted: . . . thinking about DCM . . .

Anything you do that alters the external appearance of the weapon so that it doesn't look like an issue M-16 will disqualify you from shooting it as a service rifle, although it can be shot as a match rifle.

See this thread.

FWIW; AFAIK; IMHO; YMMV; yadda, yadda, yadda.

Instead on a bloop tube you can't use in DCM matches, you need to look at some type of shooting glasses.
several years ago, I couldn't even see the front post through the aperture. Then a friend lent me his Knoblochs to try.
I couldn't believe how much of a difference it made,, expecting my HM card in anyday now.

I know a few aging guys that have put 18mm globe sights on otherwise plain service rifles with great success.  They shoot in Match class in NRA competiton.

I have a custom made bloop tube that I had my friend make me for just what you were saying.  I forget just how long my tube is (6 inches or so???) but it increases the sight raius to 30".  The tube is precision made from a stainless barrel turned down to .750" with the inside bored to 1/2" and finely polished internally.  The threaded end is knurled and it is designed to be installed with loctite so as not to create added torque.  It is then removeable by putting a wrap of emory paper on the knurling and removing with pliers.  I have a cutdown FSB with set screws and also a set of Gehman clear plastic apertures with 18mm clamp ring for the globe style front sights.  I was planning on buying a Riles tall boy front site for this but never managed to shell out the nearly $200 for it.

You could install a clamp type AR type FSB but it would be not taking full advantage of the modification, since you will have to shoot in Match class anyways - you may as way have the front globe site for more precise aiming.  If you might be interested in these parts (the whole conversion kit listed) send me your email addy for pics.  I was intending to use these on a reduced course range where wind would not be too much of a factor, but our local club quit holding matches last year.  I shoot plain service across the course with my Colt.
