Does anyone know of a product similar to the Icom RC-28 remote tuning knob tha connects directly to the radio? I am wanting to sit my 7200 up on a shelf and just have a frequency control down on the desk. I am wanting to avoid having to go through a computer. Really looking for something that connects directly to the radio, like through the accessory port or something like that.

I checked with them. It isn't ICOM compatible yet. But yes that is what I'm looking for.

He does not want to have to run through a computer.  The RS-BA1 also connects through the computer.

The closest thing that I can think of is the stock microphone has up and down buttons on it for changing frequencies.  It would be possible to break that out using an a custom adapter and make a push button controller.

Actually easy  to do

look at the ICOM CIV protocol

I played with it a lot about 10 years ago

I also tinkered with it while building my David Clark adapters.  All you need is a couple resistors and switches to replicate the function of the buttons on the mic.  Here is a wiring diagram similar to the one I worked from.   HM-36

I was actually thinking about this earlier during my morning commute.

I have my IC-7100 installed in my truck. I have the main unit mounted behind the seat where it can get power and antenna connections. I have a mic extender cable coming from the main unit up front to free up the mic connector on the head unit. I also have an external speaker plugged into the main unit and ran up front near the main unit. I want to keep the stock mic or something similar as I like to use the up-down buttons to tune while mobile. I want to leave the head unit connections clear so I can leave the mic for the up-down functions, and still be able to plug my headset into the head unit.

How much SDR is the 7200?  Can you use one of those DJ stations shown for the Flex users?

Not much at all.
IMHO the only option would be to go through a computer or to use microphone's Up and Down buttons. There may be a way to connect an encoder to a computer but it will require a special interface and programming.
Another option is to get another radio with a detachable face panel, similar to FT-857 or IC-7000.
