Are you referring to the DD M4A1 RIS II that is 12.25" long? If so, then a 12.5" barrel would have approximately .25" sticking out. With the inside diameter of 1.15" you won't be recessing a suppressor in there so it would have to be a QD type.

Just use the barrel length you want and cut off the end of the RIS II to where you want it for you setup. As long as you don't cut back as far as the front screw mounts it won't effect it at all.
I did this with a MK18 RIS II on a 7.5" Noveske barrel build I did 5-6 years ago. Before rail install... 
After rail install.... 
Finished project after cutting RIS II...

ATW! -Fox I didn't have any plan for a specific can. I like the surefire cans but I'll do whatever works. I think for the sake of keeping my options open I would like to have enough barrel sticking out to use whatever suppressor I want later. If that means I need a 14.5" barrel, then so be it... Haha |

If you're talking about the M4A1 RIS ii then 13.25 is about the shortest you can go if you still want to use a QD suppressor mount. Here's mine.
