My first bike - picked it up in April and have 10k on it.

Here's a crappy pic I took today. It is bitter cold out today, and I had to pry the bike loose from where it had frozen to the barn floor. This was the first time I've had this bike out and running up and down the road-what a different way a sidecar rig feels! I'm going to really have to get used to this one before I dare to take it out in traffic.

edit: having a reverse gear is sure handy!

Haha, here is my first bike/commuter.  IT's an 82 Nighthawk 450.  Ugly as sin, but gets me everywhere I need to go and gets 65+ mpg while doing it.  Besides, I don't have to look at it while I'm riding it!

http://a455.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/78/l_c165ecfa837717d1fd59ca16810e415e.jpg

I got it in May and managed to put on just over 5K before the snow started to fly.  This summer I'll be doing a bunch of front brake work and maybe fork seals.  Then I figure it will probably run until the end of time.

Are you missing the side cover?

FWIW, I love those type of bikes. My first was an '85 GS450L. It's kind of strange, I've never had anything except Suzukis - I had that GS, then an SV, and now a GSXR.

Yep, I sure am missing a side cover.  I've seen them on ebay, but they always end up going for much more than I want to spend on  piece of plastic.  Oh well.

It's easier access to the battery!  It's a convenience feature, dontcha know?

My old GS was hard on batteries, but then again, so was I...when it wouldn't start, I just hooked it up to a running car for some extra juice.

That bike is awesome.  My first bike in 1985 was a 1980 Honda CM400. Best bike ever to learn on.  If it fell, I just bent everything back into place and kept riding.

I'm pleased to see some Ducati owners on the forum!

Here's a really crappy photo of my beloved 900SS SP...

I've owned a pile of bikes between 1975 and now.  I did some club roadracing (WERA) for a couple of years in the '80s.  I've always had at least a couple of bikes...  I sold my Kawi KLR 650 a couple of years ago and now it's just the Duck and a '69 Triumph Daytona hard-tail chopper project (near basket case) bike in the garage.

I'm having real trouble trying not to buy a Ducati 1098.  The fact that it would put me in financial peril is the only thing keeping me from it....

Ride safe,
desmobob

Do it!

I was on my Gixxer a while ago riding home, and I was coming up on the tail of this other bike - I thought it was an R1 Raven. Turns out it was a 1098S! My heart fluttered.

This place is pure evil.  I thought the BRD alone would be enough to send me to debtors' prison....

Ducatis of all ages and types (well... except for the Indiana!) have always given me a boner.  I yearned for one in the '70s like only a teenager can yearn.  And this lust was all based on magazine photos!   I live in very rural, very upstate NY and didn't see a Ducati in the flesh until I was about 21.  It made my stiffie stiffer, but I somehow didn't manage to finally buy one until 1995!  My first decent bike was an '81 Triumph Bonneville "Special."

Good riding,
desmobob

Chuck1: putting the correct machine gun mount on that sidecar involves cutting a large hole in the body of the car-I don't feel like doing that, but I have seen nice mounts for clipping an AK inside the 'car, next to the "monkey"-that I might do.

Bummer, I didn't know you had to hack it up to install one. They do look cool though when mounted. Also should make someone think twice about cutting you off in traffic.

Crossposted from another Motorcycle thread.

My dual sport, it is a blast on and off the road. DRZ 400S

I now have true DOT knobbies on it, and the SM street wheels setup I can switch into.

I also picked up a second set of rims that can be switched out easily that are 17" street bike rims, don't have pictures of it with them on but similar to this third pic.

How much of a gain did you 'feel' with the Yosh system and jet kit?

A lot on the bottom end but I don't think I have it jetted properly. It was actually a whole new carb, not just a jet kit.

Well documented that a full system + the FCR carb yields about 5 HP but it makes the HP faster while the carb allows it to rev fasters. I forget how it affected the torque but I know it's substantial.

Beat a Mustang from the Richland light to about Mc Donalds last night, I started behind him at the light.

Old school chopper.

Built in 1980 in a one bedroom apartment.  No Internet or e-bay back then so everything was bought from friends or swapmeets (back fender was once on a boat trailer).  It sports a rattle can paint job.  Almost a year later the tall, good looking fellow at the back of the pick-up truck, in the black t-shirt, had a car hit him from behind and destroy the rear of the bike.  He walked away from the accident, but nowadays the knee gives him fits in the cold, damp weather.
