Yes, Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, is an evil, sexist, abusive bastard and Firefly is his manifesto of hate towards the female sex.
You can't make this shit up. A Rapist's View of the World: Joss Whedon and Firefly A few choice quotes, mainly chosen at random:
Remember, even if you're in the military and addressing a superior officer, a woman should never call a man "sir" or any other respectful title.
Ah, racism disguised as non-racism. Wash is racist and abusive toward Zoe, because Wash is a white mal and Zoe is a black female. Nevermind that Zoe is clearly the dominant of the two, doesn't take shit from anyone, and carries the second biggest fucking gun in the series. Note that she dismissed Shepherd Book as "the black guy", showing her own racism at work again.
So... Inara being friends with Kaylee is good, because Kaylee is female. Inara being friends with the rest of the crew is bad because they're male, and is a sign that the men are abusive and just take what they want. Inara doesn't service the crew and even made that part of her contract to rent Mal's shuttle. She does care about them as her friends and has exactly that sort of relationship with them. Was this crazy bitch even watching the same sci-fi series as the rest of us?
Holy fucking shit, this woman has more issues than National Geographic. She actually sat down and took the time to count how many times each gender speaks in the first episode? Never mind that there are more male crewmembers than female and that one of the girls barely even speaks because she's literally brain-damaged and in statis for most of the episode.
Yep, she must be watching a different version of Firefly than what the rest of humanity saw. Mal instructed the passengers to stay out of the cargo bay. Then he discovers that someone is sending a signal to the Alliance and finds Simon in the cargo bay fiddling with something electronic. Yes, there is no logical reason for him to believe Simon is sending the homing signal and Mal just likes to punch other people at random because, well, he feels like it.
Again, Mal punching Simon was not unprovoked. Did Simon intend to provoke him or understand that what he was saying would do so? No. It still doesn't mean Mal did it without reason.
Zoe has quite a bit of personality. She's fiercely independent, loyal, intelligent, and strong. She has her own beliefs and when they're contradicted by Mal's orders she says so, up front. She's friends with Kaylee and, to a lesser extent, River, which blows the whole "no female friends" thing out of the water. And disliking Saffron, who is obviously going to create issues on the ship does not indicate a hatred of other women in general. But hey, I guess it's easier to paint with broad strokes than to actually pay some fucking attention.
You're kidding, right?
Companions are not prostitutes. This is made very clear in Heart of Gold and Inara's insistence throughout the series. Companions are not raped by their clients. They choose who their clients are, and Inara chooses her based on if there is something about them that she likes. Clients come to HER and SHE decides if they'll do business. In the sword-fighting episode, her client threatens to blacklist her and says she'll never work again. Inara retorts, quite confidently, that it doesn't work that way. HE will never get service from a Companion again, and she continues to do business throughout the rest of the series and the film.
Being a Companion is about more than mere sex, but we'll just ignore that and continue to attack Inara's chosen profession. As pointed out, Companions ARE intelligent, educated, well-respected, and in possession of quite a bit of influence. Inara repeatedly points out that Mal wouldn't get nearly as much business without her aboard since having a Companion onboard lends the ship a certain respectability. Companions have high social status and prestige amongst the upper tiers of society. How this equates them to being mere "fuck toys" is beyond me. Ah, but this crazy feminazi bitch will make even more bizarre leaps of "logic", believe me.
Wait- men arguing with each other is homo-erotic? I guess I missed that memo growing up and arguing with my buddies over which of our classmates was hottest.
Where the fuck does she come up with this shit?
Mal is Zoe's captain and formerly her sergaent in the war. He outranks her. She is his second-in-command and is supposed to show support for him. When she disagrees with him or otherwise has an issue, she comes out and says it. And since when has Mal needed help starting a fight?
Wait- what? Seriously, this crazy bitch is totally off her rocker. Not hitting on all cylinders. From what I can discern, she seems to think that ALL men are abusive toward women, all men are violent and homosexual to at least some extent, and that women should literally be able to get away with murder, because they're women.
Shortly after her projection regarding interracial relationships, she declares that Wash, who is easily the wimpiest character on the series and is married to a strong-willed and independent warrior woman, is a rapist and abuser who treats Zoe like property. Since it has been outright stated in the series that if he did behave in such a manner that Zoe would literally break him in half and beat his ass to a pulp, I'm having a hard time believing that Wash is some sort of sadist, sexist control-freak and that Zoe is his submissive, whimpering sex slave. The closest Wash ever comes to a serious confrontation with Zoe is in War Stories, when he finds out she lied to him. He doesn't scream, doesn't cuss, doesn't threaten her or start smacking her around (which is a good thing for him since she's slit people's throats on screen), he simply expresses that he's upset and wants her to be up front and honest with him. Whoop-de-shit, clearly this is a sign of an abusive and unhealthy relationship. Her response to some of the commentary on the article:
Wow. You can't make this shit up. In her world, if women are supreme overlords of everything ("All hail the mighty uterus!") and men their submissive, simpering bitches, then everything is evil. She could be surrounded by enslaved eunuchs who bow to her every demand and flinch when she raises her voice and she'd still find time to bitch about how they're oppressing her with their manliness. Ah, but this isn't the worse of it. Behold, part one of her review of the episode Our Mrs. Reynolds! A Rapist's View of the World: Our Mrs. Reynolds
So Buffy, Willow, Zoe, River, etc. don't count then.
So, wait, Mal, who gets laid exactly once throughout by the series at the promptings of the woman, is a rapist? Mal, who defends Saffron from Jayne's predations? I suppose if I opened the door for this crazy bitch she'd start shrieking at me that I was making some homo-erotic display of strength and dominance over her? Apparently when this chick was growing up, she thought thermometers were full of yummy silver candy.
Completely ignoring the fact that Mal doesn't want a wife/sex slave and is very uncomfortable about the situation, which is what Zoe is making fun of.
Uh-HUH. Soooo... women being something of a mystery to men somehow reduces them from being human beings to... who the fuck knows. There is no way anything this woman says makes sense to anyone who doesn't spend most of their time scribbling on hamburger wrappers and babbling gibberish in their padded cell.
WHAT. THE. FUCK.
Oh for fuck's sake, spouses do nice things for each other because they love one another, not because one is some sort of slave to the other, you sick, stupid bitch. Somebody get her psychiatric help before she pisses off the wrong asshole and he or she fuck-starts her head.
I must have missed all the times Mal keeps Jayne in check and the time he literally threw Jayne in the airlock to space him for his behavior. Jayne would be just another thug if he'd stayed with his previous crew; over time, he's picked up something of a conscience and social graces from Mal's crew and while he is still incredibly simple and controlled almost entirely by his most basic urges, he has gotten better as a human being.
Ah yes, as soon as a gun appears on screen in the hands of a man, it is a phallic symbol. Nevermind that Zoe's mare's leg is the biggest gun anyone on the ship besides Jayne possesses and she carries it far more often than Jayne carries any of his big guns. I named my WASR-10 Mathilda; that doesn't mean it has some sort of sexual gratification for me. As for phallic imagery, if I could kill something at 200 yards with my penis then I wouldn't need a gun, now would I. And how the fuck is Jayne's explanation of where he got his gun and why it has sentimental value to him "homoerotic"? Where is she getting this "larger romance of the show" as being some homo-erotic relationship between Mal and Jayne? Jayne is Mal's attack dog, and Mal is the one who keeps him on his leash until he needs him set loose. There is absolutely nothing sexual about their relationship. This woman has more issues than National Geographic. Seriously, she is nuttier than squirrel shit and is filled with rage and hatred. She needs professional psychiatric help before she hurts somebody. |

She is the best argument against female suffrage I've ever seen. ETA: And she's a Australian. A blackfella (or blackshelia at that). |
No fucking joke. And believe me folks, if you think wading through my first post was a pain in the ass, try actually reading the crazy shit she spews. |
No, she's absolutely serious. You haven't read the rest of her feminazi shit. |
what a bitch.
Feminists (you know the kind.... the ones that want women to be "better off" than men) are one of the WORST kinds of discriminatory people there are. fucking loonies |
Probably not the strap-on kind... |
...and she votes, too... |
Only in my elections . We should turn this into more of an epic thread and them email this racist, sexist POS a link. |

Male raep symbolism. |

I would imagine she would have a stroke if she were to watch Deadwood.
What a cunt. |

And one for me. |

[Hillary Rally] IRON MY SHIRT! [/Hillary Rally]
and since it's been said - but not enough - AND MAKE ME A SAMMICH! |

She'd probably poison it. I left out the part of her insane ranting where she says that Patience, a woman who double-crossed and shot Mal prior to the series and then tried it again should have gotten away with betrayal and murder solely because she's a woman. That's right. Instead of being left trapped under a dead horse and surrounded by dead minions, she should have been portrayed successfully stabbing Mal in the back during a business deal and gotten away with it because she has a vagina. I've got a fucking migraine and I'm betting it's not because of anything in the air. |
You must really be bored to have read that much of that mindless ranting. |
Actually, I stole most of the quotes from a thread at another message board so I wouldn't have to wade through that shit myself. Just trying to comprehend how someone's mind could possibly work this way is beyond my capacity as a human being. I think this woman is the first person to fail the Turing Test. |

I bet she'd take issue with Stargate, you know, because poor poor Sam is always having to call her superior officers Sir. Someone like that couldn't understand that having Zoe or Sam subordinate to their respective leaders is showing their sense of duty and responsibility. Those are positive qualities that almost never shown in female roles, and somehow it's a bad thing?
I'd hate to see her reaction to BSG. God forbid that strong female leads should choose to have sex, share power or *gasp* screw up just as often as everyone else. They just must be victimized by all those damn men. And all the men are Gay. Can't forget that. There is just no pleasing some people. Instead of portraying some semblance of reality in our stories, they want their own pet version of reality trumped up and put on display. |
You really need to work on that masochistic streak there Swindle1984.. |

Talk about spending too much time overthinking a fricken TV show/movie... Jeez, it's just. A. Show. Who has this kind of time on their hands to analyze this stuff anyway?!?!? I personally liked the show and the movie but can't say it inspired a lot of deep thinking the moment it wasn't on the screen. I thought it was kind of like Gunsmoke in outer space... Not meant for deep thinking but fun to watch.
I don't think the guy is sexist. From his interviews, I think he's insanely liberal and believes
television is the perfect medium to promote his rather weird and unnatural views on sexuality, gender identity, and family values. There's a reason feminist get wet panties over this guy. He seems obsessed with feminizing men and making women more masculine. Fortunately, he's a hack and his work occupies a rather small niche of popularity, so he can't do much damage. |
So, inna nutshell, all the guys are ghey. Sex (with the ghey guys) is rape. And Wash pushes around Zoe? I think someone needs to step away from the internet. The only thing wrong with the show is they canceled it.
Someone needs to send this bitch a copy of Tarnsman of Gor. THAT should make her little peabrain explode in rage. She'll finally have a real excuse to get worked up over sexism and female objectification.
Joss Whedon IS a feminist you stupid cow!!!
Firefly fans banded together to buy Nathan Fillion the actual "Brown Coat" he wore on the show. We lost the auction, and Nathan donated the money to a woman's charity at Joss' behest. Alot of womern's charities are supported by Joss Whedon, especially ones for rape victims and victims of abuse. This bitch needs a date with "Chopper". Why don't serial killers ever kill bitches like this? |
So you would consider the character of Mal to be feminine? Glad we've got that out of the way... Now how would you define masculine? Or have you never seen the show and are just talking out your ass? |
This has to be a joke.
And no, Joss Whedon is not a hack. And I'd like to see some documentation of him being a "flaming liberal," zan. You do realize that he's portraying an unreconstructed confederate as the hero of the show, right? And that the Feds are a bunch of tyrannical, ruthless centralists, right? Hell, the whole civil war is about the core planets Allied Government waging a war to control the Independents. They even call the government agents Feds and even "Purplebellies" in one episode... an obvious take from the old term "Bluebelly" for Federal soldiers. The show has a pretty strong pro-gun, pro-libertarian, and anti-big government slant. |
I watched the first three episodes that Whedon excreted onto the airways. I couldn't bear any more than that. I've seen quite a few Buffy and a few episodes of his other vampire show, which I mercifully can't remember the name of. In other words, I've seen more than enough of his material to understand what he's about. His work has several characteristics that identity it and none of them are particularly original, interesting, or normal. One of his fetish themes is the petite, shy, awkward female that's actually a fearsome powerful killing machine. On a side note, hookers treated like royalty? LOL |
The "Companions" are supposed to be something like "Geisha."
And how many people do you know who qualify as "normal"? Now... How many of them own AR-15s? You can keep normal. I'm happy without it.
And the problem with that is?
It's a fact in much of the world. Let me guess, you've never traveled outside the western world? |
Come on, you're getting away from the point of the thread - bashing femnazis. |
Having read only the OP, I decline from voting as there is no option for "wat."

What a load of crap. You clearly have no taste or are missing a long gun (I can tell you where you likely misplaced it). Firefly was an awesome series and it was a ton of fun. Even Book believes in using violence to protect the crew. There are guns everywhere. The show is about independence and Liberty. Sure there may be some odd things in there, but this is supposed to take place in the distant future. Can you imagine what people at the end of the Dark Ages would have said of American culture (at any point in our history)? And if you watched the first three shows as their aired, you got them out of order. Say thank you to Fox for that one. Watch them in order and you'll love it. If you don't, I hope the reavers get you. |

My freshman English comp class in college consisted of reading stuff exactly like that, and writing papers in response.
Agreeing with the author's premise meant an A. Disagree, and a perfect paper would mean a B or lower. I hated that class. I still remember the one about how the barbie doll was a tool of the cold war military industrial complex used to subjugate women. |
A little girl tells the mall Santa that she wants Barbie for Christmas. And she wants GI Joe, too. Confused, Santa asks, "Doesn't Barbie come with Ken?" "No," says the girl, "She only comes with GI Joe. She fakes it with Ken." |
I'll bet she went to Sydney Uni. All kinds of screwed up coming out of there |
So... you have no taste, didn't actually watch the series, have no idea what it's about, and are proud of your ignorance. Ok. Mal and Zoe are unReconstructed Confederates, essentially, living life on the edge of civilization and trying to live by their own rules instead of what the Alliance tells them. For various reasons of their own, the other crew members (Jayne, the thug, Book, the reverend, Inara, the geisha, Kaylee the mechanic, Wash, the comic relief pilot, Simon and River, the doctor and his mental-case sister) are all in for the ride and they eventually bond into something of a family. Of criminals. The show is very much anti-big government, pro-gun, pro-liberty, and pro-let's-go-do-our-own-thing-and-everybody-else-can-just-leave-us-alone. |
WTF? Some people just read way too much into things. That was some of the most nonsensical, liberal, pabulum, fucked up female shit I have ever read. God, there are days I wish I had a time machine. Bye the way, a Firefly fan from the very first release on DVD, best show, that never got a chance.
Flyingrhino |

That hurt to read.
She clearly misses how most of Whedon's shows make the female characters dominant and superior to the males. He does it in an entertaining fashion so I don't typically mind it (it's not heavy handed like "Charmed"). |
