20 in California to study, want to get into business and/or engineering. I'm originally from Taiwan. I love AK and AK variants as well as studying late 20th century military history. However, it's pretty much illegal to own the real AK in Taiwan and California, so I collect airsoft replicas and real AK parts until I can get out of here. |
I just came over to the Dark Side today. Picked up a Century Arms underfolder. Still have a lot to learn about this weapon platform. I am most familiar with the AR side of the fence.

Hello all, my name is Bob. I live in Land O Lakes, Florida (just North of Tampa)...47yrs old, I'm a building inspector, married 5yrs (3rd wife) 3 kids, 2 girls 24, 20, a son 15 and 2 grand kids. I've owned many guns over the years, my favorites are the AR, "94 Winchester, Glocks, and most recently AK's when I found out you could build them cheap. I now have 3 Romi's, 2 Yugo UF's, a Polish UF and 2 AMD 65's. They now out number my AR's, I have 2 Rock River's, a A2 I bought and a M4 I built, plus 4 stripped receivers (2 for pistol builds). Other hobbies are building computers, cave diving, Jeeps and collecting Case knives. As a side line I cut vinyl graphics to help pay for all the toys. |

Tyler, 16 (all purchases sales go through my dad so please dont ask) and been shooting as long as I can remember. Born in Texas, new to Wyoming, and never wanna livein California. Complete gun nut, worked all summer for my first AR, shot many but the feeling of owning one is like no other. Not biased to ARs or Aks. Love to shoot long range, or just go plink. Howdy!! I'm Darren, 33yo, from Swamp-East Missouri. Just made a career change from LEO to RN. I'm married and have a 3.5 year old daughter (bought her first 10-22 about 4 months ago). Have been a gun nut ever since I can remember and have owned probably 20 or so AR's currently just have the two that I wanna keep, Colt 6920 and a Colt SP1 5 digit. Got my first FAL about 3 months ago and LOVE it, just picked up my first AK (polish UF built by Duke Nukem) wednesday afternoon and am going shooting today. I'm really liking these AK rifles and will definitely have more!!! Looking for a 75 round drum . . . |

Josh, from VT. I've been here a while but I recently started falling in love with my AK's again. Enough to trade for a polytech legend.......then pick up two yugo underfolders.......then a damn LNIB Galil AR. Pre-89 stuff is way worse of a bug than AR's I think. Now I've got my heart set on more galils(need a 5.56 ARM), an FNC and an AUG.

I live in the Dallas / Fort Worth area, no kids or wife, 36, into cars mostly, home theater also along with shooting and guns. I am your basic IT/UNIX/DBA guy that is moving into security. I don't have many guns. A Para-Ordinance OPS .45acp, S&W 3913 9mm, Kel-tec P3AT .380acp, Taurus M627Ti .357magnum, Rhineland Arms R22 .22lr and a Gorton Tech/Arsenal SLR100 milled AK 7.62x39. The Kel-tec is carried in either a KD Mini-IWB-Defender or KD 2N1 pocket holster. The 3913 rides in a Tucker Texas Heritage, and the Para has a 5-Shot leather pancake with shark trim. The 5-shot is artwork, the Tucker is extremely comfortable and conceals the 3913 well, and the KD's are amazing. 5-Shot will be making an IWB for the Para shortly. --Chuck http://chuckb.1le.net |

Don here... born and raised in NC ..... wife and 2 children...32 years old... I ask ALOT of questions...and I really appreciate everyone's information so far. This is an excellent site - the people here in these forums make it so. Here lately I've got gun fever ... and BAD!! Last time it hit me I had to have a Intratech 9mm, this time its an AK47. My "old lady" thinks I am insane for wanting to build an AK...or for wanting one period. That being said, any locals with building experience that are willing to help me deal with this affliction are encouraged to contact me immediately.h |

I’m an avid shooter, like the military type gas guns (AK, arf, FAL, and my beloved M14), I’ve got a few SIGs, Glocks and Colts, but really dote on Smith N-frames. Would like to get into long range precision shooting, but that takes more money than I have to spend right now. I’m also a pilot (aviation freak) and trying my hand at photography. |

Since I have been coming here for some time now, I guess I should introduce myself. My name is James, 45 years old, and I live in Pensacola, FL. I got started with guns when I was about 6 or 7 years old. My father use to take us boys out for a day of shooting every now and then. We had an old Remington .22 bolt-action rifle and his Colt .22 Frontier Scout SA revolver (bought in 1956). I finally had my own gun in 1986 when I bought a Llama 1911A1 .45ACP. It was cheap, but it was a very nice shooting semi-auto .45. A couple of years later, I had to sell it. Finally, in 2004, I bought my next handgun (Glock 21 - 1995 model) at a gun show. A great buy for $475.00. This started the fire. I eventually had three Glocks. I now only have two (model 19 and 21). This fire also produced a Kimber Stainless Pro Carry II, A Springfield Armory XD-45 Tactical, a Chinese SKS, 1943 Springfield Armory M1 Garand, JLD PTR-91, DPMS Panther Carbine, RRA/STAG ARMS M4gery build, a Yugo M70AB2 underfolder, a Romanian GP WASR-10 sidefolder, and a Armory USA/Global Trades SSR-85C-2. The latter just received a total makeover with the tactical treatment (pics should be posted early next week). What can I say, AR15.COM has caused a full blown inferno. BURN BABY BURN!

| im josh, and im a huge fan of the AK. something about the history of the rifle really makes it attractive to me. my sn is ja(initials) and ak, for ak47. i am trying to open up a gun range in north fulton, south forsyth(on the forsyth side) Georgia. i really want to make this the best gun range in GA, if not the southeast. once we find the land, its all downhill from there. the land will be the toughest thing to acquire, aside from an FFL. i want to have cars to shoot at, allow full auto weapons and .50 cal guns as well. i honestly have no desire to own any other rifles then AK's for personal use at this time, but i want to rent guns for the range. they will range from ar's to ak's and everything in between as well as pistols and shotguns. it will be an outdoor range, but we will have a covered and weather protected 25-30 yard range for when it rains and heaters for the winter. i love this site, its got me using a credit card for the first time... i swore id never use one! |

My name is Rick. I have 24 years hands on experience w/the M16/M4/AR rifles to include 12 years as an Infantryman deployed to the Gulf War and Somalia, and now USBP. I've owned 6 AK's going back to 1988 and about the same for AR's, currently have 2 AK's and 3 AR's, ordering my SLR-106F or FR tomorrow. What I admire about the AK's is it's simple ruggedness and operation. If I had my way, I'd replace every M16/M4 in service w/an updated AK, or something like the KTR. I've had to depend on my M16 for my survival on 2 occassions. I did so with a doubt that it would fail, specifically cycling the second round. Because of constant maintenance and preventive measures, it did, and the follow up shots did it's part. Luckily for us, the complete incompetence of our enemy was his demise. I know the AR platform in and out. I also know the AK's. I'd feel more confident with the AK's reliability. Most buffoons w/AR's that swear by them, has never been in a real situation where it's reliability comes into question. Plopping down my AR on a nice clean bench after just having removing it from its $60 cordura case that has never touched dirt, its realiability wouldn't be a concern. As opposed to worrying about how much dirt had been ingested after a dirt bath from a UH60 prop wash even though I tried to seal up the receiver with an MRE bag and duct tape, then cycling the bolt a few times on an empty chamber, to be sure that it will cycle, hearing it grind and squeal from not being able to lube it for fearing the oil will clog it up w/sand. The Ak platform also limits all that shit ppl like to add on. One can whine all they want about how much more accurate, ergonomics, adaptability, lightweight (not after all the add ons), and other BS, but that and $3.76 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks, but it won't amount to a pile of expresso beans if you pull that trigger, it goes bang followed by that all too familiar short cycle sound, knowing all too well THEY heard you go bang, and SPORTS aint gonna clear the shit stew between the magazine lips and chamber. Luckily that didn't happen to me, except during live fire excercises. But I could hear it being done by at least a few somewhere behind me (I didn't see them do it b/c I was to friking busy waiting for more bad guys to pop around the corner). At least there were 5 of us and only one of him. He got all of his 30 rounds off, ala pray and spray, from a rust and mud encrusted AK and started to re-load out in the open, but not quick enough. As I said, his complete incompentness got him killed. But I'd be damned if I didn't hear one of my guys say "phuk" followed by "Click, plop, cycle, cycle, cycle, slip, slap, click, cycle" accomapnied by a concert of cussing to include, "M-Fing piece of shit". Anyways, enough of my rant. I like AK's for its simple ruggedness and operation. AK's can be updated and still be a simple AK that doesn't depend on itty bitty springs, extractors, buttons, and whatever ppl add on guns these days that rely on more itty-bitty parts, springs, buttons, batteries, and breakeable glass. |

My name is Dave, and I'm an avid collector and shooter. I bought the AK after watching Top Ten Combat Rifles on the Military Channel one day. I am new to the AK world, but not new to shooting sports. I built a FN/FAL from a de-mil parts kit. I built a Oly Arms CAR-97 from a new parts kit. I own a CAI CETME for plinking. I got a couple of handguns (one is a DE50PC), and a Winchester Model 70 Stealth that I use to go out to 1000y. I also reload ammo for all my different firearms. So far, I like the CAI WASR10, although I quickly see it's lower quality when compared to other AKs that I've seen. I guess that's why it's so much cheaper. It still seems to shoot just fine though. In the coming weeks, I will refinish the wood and refinish the rifle itself -- probably with the left over park solution from my FAL build. |

2DARK2C i been here awhile i guess. this site is the best information site that i've seen. almost realtime answers to any query.i enjoy everyones opinions good or bad. pretty much i come here atleast once daily now. i am 27 and married. i work in a repair/distrubution center for a very large company. i have had many jobs. none firearm related, though i did work in corrections briefly. i like to talk about the AK in it's physical and psycholigical roles. i feel that the AK represents the last vestages of a free people. i am white trash and a bastard, but not bitter. i have accepted my lot in life. i am slightly paranoid, and definetely a stubborn asshole.i also spell rather poorly. I am 47 and live in Northern Ohio. I have a fondness for mil-type firearms and virtually any type of handguns. I've been hanging around the AR side for awhile now. I just bought my second AR (Yugo UF) to go with my Romy folder from several years back. I was easily seduced by the dark side of the force.

26 Male, married for 1.5 years, 1 amazing 5 mo. old boy, 1 dog, 2 cats, too many fish and too many dad gum snails. Moved to AR little over 1 year ago from Tucson, AZ to complete my PhD. Been thinking about an AK for quite some time. Have not completely made up my mind, but I think an AMD 65 will be the first one for me. I have a feeling it will not be my last. |

Hey all, Been on the AR side of things for a while then flirted with the darkside and got me a Bulgy AKS-74:  Shot it for the first time yesterday. What a blast! Think I found my new favorite plinker. Next thing to do is drill it for a scope rail and put my Aimpoint 5000 on it. |
