I posted these in the AK thread but thought I'd drop them here too.

Here are a few pics of my newly refinished GP WASR 10. She is an excellent shooter, but looked just horrible before. I finished her up with Gun Kote and some beautiful Ironwood Design stocks. I think she looks good now.

Here are a couple of Before pics:

Thank you for the kind words.

I used 0000 steel wool to take it down as close to bare metal as possible. Sprayed and baked.

Ironwood stocks are fantastic. I just used some mahagony stain and them about 10 coats of tung oil. Buffed it with 0000 steel wool.

Dude, that is a sweet lookin AK.  I just picked one up and kinda like you said....it looks rough.  I've been thinkin of redoing it.  How difficult was it to refinish the reciever?  How did you apply the Duracoat, did you heat cure it or just let it dry.  I really want to do that to mine.
I tried to PM you but it said your box is full.

i've had this gun since last summer, it's an aes10b romanian rpk.  i got some battle hardened russian wood, and the correct bipod.  just removed the front sight last night and installed the bipod, then put the front sight back on.  i haven't pinned it yet, i'm gonna take it to the range and make sure the sights are straight first.  it came with a hardwood stock set, but,  i really like the beat up laminated wood.  i put an old hungarian leather sling on it to boot.  l'm not going to refinish this one,  i like the mismatched finish of the bipod and gun, gives it the "in service" look.

best dog ever....he's my buddy.  this dog helped me through some rough times rehabbing a demolished leg.  he will NOT go shit or piss in the house.  he sleeps at my feet every night.  he hears every little sound and checks it out.  he's part bull terrier and beagle.  he weighs 40 pounds and will stand down dogs that are three times his size, no kidding.  he looks like the rca dog but acts like an attack dog.  i have three kids and he is awesome with all of them.  they can pull his ears and tail and he does not get mad.  try to move him when he's sleeping and he will growl at you though.

Cody,

Thanks, naturally I sanded it down first, then I used the Minwax Red Mahogany stain, 3 coats, 1 for 15 min, 2 and 3 for 10 mins and 2 coats of poly.

Hi all!

First post and first AK. :)

Just picked this up about 4 days ago and decided on redoing the finish on it.  It's not exactly what I was shooting for but I think it turned out ok.  All in all I think I like the rough look of the factory though.  This was a qucick finish job though so maybe in fall I'll make it a project again and sink some time in to it. lol

Hi, thank you.

I just used some stripper, mineral spirits and then a very light sand.  The stain I used is Mini Wax decorative color tint stain and tbh I forgot the exact color(i dont have the sample sheet here, prob 30 different tints).  Then just a medium poly in 3 coats with light 300 grit sanding inbetween.  It's a little to shiney for my taste and  it's certainly not the cleanest job.  I look through this thread with envy on some of your guys but I've only stained a few times in my life lol.

Wow. Gary at Overland did an amazing job on my new Romy. The fit and finish on this thing is absolutely amazing. Took her to the range this weekend and she fires better than she looks. I had him sight it in for me and she is dead on at 50 yards.

I was quoted 6-8 weeks and for once an AK builder actually stuck by his word  and I was able to contact him every step of the way. These pictures do the finish and wood no justice.

My Romanian MD-65 build.
The receiver, trunnions, rivets, and triggerguard was parked then assembled.
The sling and surface outside parked metal was "aged" to match the rest of the parts.

Two of my SAR-3's.  Both have RSA FCG's and real-deal Russian AK-74 furniture refinished by Z_Recto excluding the pistol grips which he made from scratch for 922r compliance purposes.  The one with the Ultimak has a Romy FSB and brake, fully refinished by InRange.  The other one has a modified Bulgy-style FSB and USA brake, that work and the refinish job was completed by Elite.
