We are a distributor for Century Arms and this is what they said the Due to a ATF ruling the original WASR series had take off barrels installed and this is no longer allowed . The WASR rifles will now have NEW Romanian barrels installed on the rifles and then imported they are not going to have US barrels . That is why you are going to see the price increase on the WASR series of rifles. We hope this helps clear up some of the confusion about this product line .

Up 'til now every Romanian AK barrel has been chrome lined. If the new barrels weren't, the Romanians would have to retool.
Based on that, I'd speculate the new barrels will be chrome lined.

This isn't so bad. Still sucks that they're gonna cost more though. A .30 caliber barrel is a .30 caliber barrel. Who cares when it was made? ATF has way too much time on their hands.

Justin-Kase,

Appears that you are the one who is full of BS.  Now we have another vendor (A-F) telling a story that makes more sense.  Those of us that have seen internet rumors over the years have learned that the first story doesn't always seem to hold true.

Remember, Classic Arms told us a year or so ago that WASRs were no longer being imported, but they are available in quantities larger than ever before.

How exactly my post BS? It is at best a mis-communication on where the NEW barrels are being made.

One vendor says US made one says NEW Romanians.

You think it's possible both were relating information as told to them?

The ATF disallowed surplus barrels. - Sounds like it's a FACT.

The ATF will allow new Romanian barrels for WASR's - Sounds like it might be.
The internet rumor BS flag is and was the only BS here, two respected industry partners have corroborated there is a change in the WASR barrel coming.

I want foreign made, chrome-lined. A guy posted that the barrel on his Yugo M72 was showing signs of throat erosion after 200 rounds. And the 5.45 US barrels are still a crapshoot at this point (Keyholing, the rifling wearing down to smoothbore, incorrect bore diameter)

One vendor stated they would have US barrels, one vendor stated they would have Romanian manufactured barrels.  Obviously, both stories can't be correct so one is obviously BS.  You'll have to wait to find out which one is true and which one is a BS rumor.

tstorm31 is correct in calling BS until actual verification as to which is true.

Obviously, the ATF could have said no imported barrels in July when Bryan got his information and later said OK to NEW "sporting barrels."

If so it's a change of fact not BS, and BTW just so you know the difference my above statement is speculation not BS.

I believe there has been the ability to import rifles with sporting barrels since the barrel ban went into effect some years ago.  If you have evidence of a recent change it should be available for posting from the BATF website.

Bryan and the staff @ Aim  are a top notch firm  !! We know that  when talking with a importer rep they often do not not always know the whole story or get it right the first time so Aim just got some inital wrong intel  . On a few occasions we have known more about a new product than the sales rep did . The good news is these will be New imported chrome lined bbls  the ATF regs do not allow the importation of original Military rifle  take off  or surplus barrels .

So in other words this wont really change a thing. Instead of new/like new .mil barrels that were originally on the rifles there will now be brand new .milspec (basically) barrels on them and of course the cost will be passed on to the end user.

By the way, it's nice to see you compliment a competitor. You (Atlantic) and Aim both have outstanding reps on this board and things like this show why. Kudos.

Yes they will be new Romanian mil spec chrome lined barrels the others were Military surplus take offs and banned for use on anymore Century Imports . The price will probably go up $25 - $35 dollars per rifle  we have a few pallets of AK's  on order now and will check them out as soon as they arrive .

Thanks for the info. I thought the US barrel thing seemed a bit fishy from the start. The price increase is bad news, but maybe their new barrels are better then their old ones. The thread starter should change the title.

Ok! Let me clarify why I raised the BS flag. I did it because, at the time i did it, I could not verify this story anywhere else on the net. I didnt mean any disrespect towards AIM or Atlantic Firearns. I have purchased from both, and both are top-notch companies. At the time I first read this, it had all the makings of another wild internet rumor ( "I heard from so-and-so that (fill in the blank)!!) . Anyways, all it turned out to be was some minor mis-information, and another twisted rumor was stopped in its tracks.

Doubt it. The AK market isn't big enough to invest in cold hammer forging equipment.

As an Example -  Daniel Defense.

Below is one of their products , they could easily make a similar barrel for AKs if they saw market potential.

While I bought a DD AR for partially the reason of a CHF Barrel, I would ask if anyone has seen an ACCURACY drop in an AK with a US barrel?  (Yugos have them from Century, etc.)?

What is the composition of the "NEW" Romanian barrels?  CHF?

I doubt that CHF makes a difference anyone shooting semi will see.

The Century GP1975 that I have shoots right behind my Arsenal SGL20. The Green Mountain barrel as of right now is great and accurate. The only reason I went after the Arsenal was the chrome lined barrel.

Reading comprehensoin is fundamental.
The barrels are NOT US made. The barrel, like the rest of the rifle (before US compliance parts are added) is made in Romania.
The barrel is new production.

I don't see BS. You asked about US-barreled WASRs when clearly earlier in the thread it is mentioned that they're merely new-build Romy pieces. He was just pointing out your original error, perfectly understandable as there are cases of people not paying attention to earlier posts before spouting off.

And th new barrels will still be chrome lined and forged on the same machinery as before. I predict no appreciable difference in accuracy or barrel durability.

He could have been more polite about it. Not my fault he is pissed over something so stupid. AR15.com is getting a bit hostile these days. Nothing like it use to be.

Anyway, thank you for clearing that up in the manner you did. There was much confusion between what Aim said and Atlantic said early on. There are no perfect people so "He who is without sin cast the first stone", you get me? I will admit, I am a dumb ass. As I get older this shit happens.

Back to topic. So what you are saying is there will be no plus to either the old or new. Got it. Only that is price will now go up. I guess I will get myself another Saiga then.
