This thread is getting way off from the original OP's intent and again I want to apologize for that but I think this should be posted here.

Christian the owner of Cav took the time out of his day to call me and discuss my complaints. My stock dates to a time prior to his ownership of the company. He also recognized and immediately set about correcting both of the issues I have with my stock, the buttplate and the depression along the side when he took control of the company. It doesn't sound like the depression can be removed completely because of the design of the product but he says it has been minimized as much as possible. I am not going to repeat the entire conversation which was lengthy but I will say this. Christian sounds like a man interested in producing product to the satisfaction of his customers, is confident in his product and takes criticism well. He assures me that the stock and injection molded buttplate they make today is an improvement on the older models and is also offering a proper A2 buttplate option that is sourced outside his facility. I think if I were to buy another product from him and was unhappy with it he would do what he could to make me happy and that is the best you can hope for.

He didn't offer me a new buttplate and I didn't ask. I think the time he spent with me is worth me buying my own.

I will now return you to your regularly scheduled broadcast.

Reread my previous post, and it was evident to me what I meant...
Let me try again.  My notion was that the Cav stock is already plenty strong, and I was lobbying for it to physically look like an A1, at least on the outside.
Many thanks for the comeback from Cav, and I hope my meaning is now somewhat clearer.

I ran one on a Dissapator set up I had.  Stock was attached to a lower that had been waiting for a 20" upper.

How about an A1 stock with a 14.5" bbl? I like full stocks, although I do have some collapsible setups. However, this one just feels right.

I think if there was a reliable souce for ready to use NEW , QUALITY A1 stocks, more people would use them. Cav Arms doesn't fit that criteria in my opinion.

I have to agree. I had the CAV ARMS and returned it. Not a good item in my opinion.

I have been using one for years. How is it "not a good item"?

I am sorry Aimless, but I just was very disappointed with the CAV ARMS A1 stock. I do not seem to be alone on this.

You're not, I hated the one I had too. I've never heard of one breaking but they just feel like the cheapest POS ever. Probably a good option is you're trying to build something super light but otherwise I prefer the Colt CS stock (A1 length, A2 build quality). Admitting, the CS stock is hard to find and often expensive when you do but if you look around they are out there.

Here's my son's 16" middy w/Colt CS stock. Not a great CQB setup but it is a very nice general purpose carbine...

One AR-10 and two AR-15's with A-1 length buttstocks.
Right length and perfect for a KISS build.

So does the AR10 have the same buffer tube and therefore accept the old A1 stocks?

I prefer the A1 to any other stock ever made for the M16/AR15.
I will post some pictures when I get the chance.

So if I have an A2 stock assembly, and pick up a cav arms C1 shell / short screw...

Can I take the buttplate off my A2 and use it with the short screw on the CAV arms stock?

I've always thought an A1-stocked lower with a 16" dissy upper would look kinda cool...

Here is my PSA dissipator with an A2 stock, I am seriously thinking about ordering the Cav A1 to try out, its only $25, and I really like the A1 length better.

Here's my work gun.  Not just an A1 stock....

I always run my stocks at approximately A1 length, it is the perfect LOP for me.  Even though I could, I see no need to purchase a collapsible stock for this weapon.  It's a 14.5 BCM LW carbine.  I put 1200 rounds through it in a 3 day class with no problems running a carbine gas system and rifle buffer.  Very soft shooting combo, especially with the BattleComp. Total round count is around 2000 and this is my GP Ar now.  The original 6920 lower collects dust in the safe (waiting on the day I have to turn the M16A1 back in to the Armory).

Stay Safe,
Rob

My favorite coyote shooter has a 16" 1:7 barrel (midlength gas) and an A1 stock.  It's great. The fixed stock works great (for me anyway) in that role.
