Putting a carry handle on my next assembly and as I peruse what's out there...holy hell. Have prices jumped? Are carry handles back in style now?
I could have sworn that a few years ago carry handles were going for ~$30, but now I see them starting at double that or more. Am I mis-remembering? PSA, of all places, has one for 79.99. What's everyone using for a brand of carry handle and where are you getting them? I don't need it to be Gucci or rare vintage, just a simple A2 that isn't an airsoft job. |
|
I had good luck on the EE.
Went through the same provess you are now... |
|
Supply and demand. You have to pay real close attention with what to look for as far as genuine Colt/FN/etc (staked screws with an X, forge marks, etc.), but watching like a hawk I've had good luck on eBay. Scored two genuine beat up colt handles for $50 a few months ago. Sometimes EE you get lucky, but it seems carry handles have become popular.
|
|
Maybe the ones I was seeing before were low quality and I didn't know it, or maybe it was longer ago than I thought... Sure seemed like people couldn't give them away for a while there though.
I suppose cutting a carry handle wasn't a thing back then either. |

I bought one of these last year, its used but still USGI..

I think a bigger factor is that more and more factory rifles are coming with some sort of folding sight rather than the carry handle, so there aren't nearly as many take offs being sold, which has significantly reduced supply while demand has remained steady.
New quality ones have retailed from $80-120 for years. |

Not mine and not $30, $40 or $50 but for $70 there was a new Colt take off posted up yesterday:
http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_7_159/1547342_COLT_DETACHABLE_CARRY_HANDLE.html OP is correct, a few months ago, the Colt handles were $50, not $70. |

I ran into this recently as well. Building up a rifle for my FIL. I'm sure he will put an optic on it but I wanted him to be able to shoot it on Father's Day when I give it to him.

So are carry handles the next BCG's for this year's panic?? |

View Quote That $25 sight is cheap Chinese junk. The LMT original is way more than $25. Carry handles are only up to $125 if you don't shop around. At the same time, I have seen cheap junk carry handles as well. I saw one at the range where the cross bolts were to deep into the body. No matter how hard you tightened both knobs down, the carry handle would slide forward under recoil. The only thing that kept it from coming off the rifle is the fact that the handguard acted as a forward stop. |
