After close inspection of the pictures that people have posted with some sort of claim that, "I have used and abused" or "thousands of rounds through" or "I have used this rifle for years", I deem most of those statements to be false. On many of the guns posted here, very few have and discernable wear and tear, or and subtle scratches or dings and dents. I am not talking about battleworn finishes or stupid shit like that, but rather finish wear on optics from being moved around, or on the brass deflector, or on any surface at all. Many people would benefit from putting a sling on their rifle and carrying it around for a while, which it appears not many have even done in this thread.

View Quote First Point Here is a AR Pistol in 300blk with 8000+ Rounds and 3 years of Brush Hunting Whitetail Deer in Coastal Maine. Take into consideration this is a Salt Water, Humid Environment and I pretty much only walk the woods on rain and windy days which are not suitable to Tree Stand Hunting due to lack of Game movement. I would estimate that to be about 16 days of hard feild use per year. That is not considering I shoot this a lot at my personal "range". It is also getting thrown in and out of the truck 5 or 6 times a day during hunting season and I often stuff it in between my Seat and Center Console as a PDW Truck Gun. I was just noticing how clean it looks which sort of contradicts your anecdotal inference about surface wear being a good reference to round count, materials are different than they were 5 or 10 years ago and ever getting better, type 3 hardcoat anodized aluminium is extremely wear resistant- MODERN Bolt Face After 8000+ rounds- Wilson Combat NiB BCG Second Point Please stay on Topic or I will be forced report You (.) Although We welcome You to post Images and pertinent content, this is a Technical Forum where Members post images of Rifles, SBRs', AR Pistols, M4's Etc. of which they believe to be the best Battle / Duty ie. Members may ask questions about specifics they have seen in Images or Content. The point is to share Images and technical information about Rifles and Products so those of Us who do not know everything might further Our education on The Topic At Hand. I’ve got several but I lean towards Colt, BCM, LaRue, Surefire, Aimpoint, Magpul, Centurion Arms, Geissele and such....
I carry a rifle for work (plainclothes LEO) and I train or compete at least once a week. I’d say I average around 1K a month in 5.56 and the same or more in 9mm I’ve been a gun guy for 25+ years and I’ve attended numerous high round count classes (EAG, Awerbuck, Gunsite, Pannone, Fisher, etc....) Buying a Desert Tech MDR- Black or FDE? What do you guys think? Im really thinking this might be a much more viable 308 option than My AR-10's due to ergonomics and weight displacement. I have avoided Bullpups due to bad trigger response but this one is supposed to be great. Thinking it might be a great long range option bringing better lethality past the 500-600 meter mark than my ARs. I thought I would be an avid User of My LaRue 762 PredatOBR, but like most AR-10s, they are just too cumbersome to move around with. This might be the answer.
I am going to order tomorrow, Let Me know your opinions on color. Should I go Black or FDE, for some reason I am really hung up on this one. I am going to use this for Hunting and think the FDE would blend in better in the woods, but you can almost never go wrong with black. They just stick out like a sore thumb IMHO. So, what do you think, Cool factor Black or functional FDE? |

I bought the Desert Tech MDR in FDE (sorry to those who voted on black, I just think they stick out a bit too much for a hunting and fighting in the woods kind of Rifle). I just have to see if there is really a 7.62 out there that a guy can run around with and shoot without a bipod, I suppose a Bullpup would be the thing to try. Then again, Bullpups have pretty much always sucked. Terrible triggers. well, I guess this one is supposed to be about as good as they get. And, for $2,100.00 NIB Shipped, I'm not going to get hurt on the deal. I think they go for $2,400-2,500.00 usually. Back to my point, I like your AK Brother. Not quite as much as the 11-5 BCM, but it is a sweet rig. About time the AK caught up with the 21st century. I think this example is something heading in that direction. |
