After close inspection of the pictures that people have posted with some sort of claim that, "I have used and abused" or "thousands of rounds through" or "I have used this rifle for years", I deem most of those statements to be false.  On many of the guns posted here, very few have and discernable wear and tear, or and subtle scratches or dings and dents.  I am not talking about battleworn finishes or stupid shit like that, but rather finish wear on optics from being moved around, or on the brass deflector, or on any surface at all.  Many people would benefit from putting a sling on their rifle and carrying it around for a while, which it appears not many have even done in this thread.

In the Marine Corps infantry, and after fighting in 2 wars and 4 deployments, I have slept with rifles, carried them everywhere and have had a rifle in my hands, all day for 3 or 4 years accumulative. Just a guess, probably more than that. That is nothing compared to most guys here who have done far more than I have. One rifle I used on 2 deployments and 2 work ups and it still looked brand new when I turned it in.

Here is what I say to your comment, nobody cares. It is the internet

I'm not jumping in on either side of this, but I will say my guns get dinged up and more wear marks from being shuffled in and out and around my gun safe than others....

First Point
Here is a AR Pistol in 300blk with 8000+ Rounds and 3 years of Brush Hunting Whitetail Deer in Coastal Maine.  Take into consideration this is a Salt Water, Humid Environment and I pretty much only walk the woods on rain and windy days which are not suitable to Tree Stand Hunting due to lack of Game movement.  I would estimate that to be about 16 days of hard feild use per year.  That is not considering I shoot this a lot at my personal "range".  It is also getting thrown in and out of the truck 5 or 6 times a day during hunting season and I often stuff it in between my Seat and Center Console as a PDW Truck Gun.  I was just noticing how clean it looks which sort of  contradicts your anecdotal inference about surface wear being a good reference to round count, materials are different than they were 5 or 10 years ago and ever getting better, type 3 hardcoat anodized aluminium is extremely wear resistant-

Second Point
 Please stay on Topic or I will be forced report You (.)  Although We welcome You to post Images and pertinent content, this is a Technical Forum where Members post images of Rifles, SBRs', AR Pistols, M4's Etc. of which they believe to be the best Battle / Duty ie. (OF THE MOST DEPENDABLE) Rifle they personally own.
It is my understanding members may post images and information about their Rifles.  Members may ask questions pertaining to the Topic at hand.  Members may ask questions about specifics they have seen in Images or Content.  The point is to share Images and technical information about Rifles and Products so those of Us who do not know everything might further Our education on The Topic At Hand.  Please refrain from anecdotal semantics and just calm down man!
If you want to gripe and groan, LINK BELOW is the place to do it, at least I believe it is the place to do that per AFRcom Guidelines

Click to Post Anecdotes  ------>  HERE   I am being literal when I refer You to this Forum.  I truly believe it is the place where One goes to vent.  Either way, please do not ruin this thread because you do not like it, there are many of Us here that do. I base this assumption by the almost 100,000 views and over 500 Posts made in a period of 70 days.

Thank You,

I’ve got several but I lean towards Colt, BCM, LaRue, Surefire, Aimpoint, Magpul, Centurion Arms, Geissele and such....

I carry a rifle for work (plainclothes LEO) and I train or compete at least once a week.

I’d say I average around 1K a month in 5.56 and the same or more in 9mm

I’ve been a gun guy for 25+ years and I’ve attended numerous high round count classes (EAG, Awerbuck, Gunsite, Pannone, Fisher, etc....)

Buying a Desert Tech MDR-  Black or FDE?  What do you guys think?  Im really thinking this might be a much more viable 308 option than My AR-10's due to ergonomics and weight displacement.  I have avoided Bullpups due to bad trigger response but this one is supposed to be great.  Thinking it might be a great long range option bringing better lethality past the 500-600 meter mark than my ARs.  I thought I would be an avid User of My LaRue 762 PredatOBR, but like most AR-10s, they are just too cumbersome to move around with.  This might be the answer.

I am going to order tomorrow, Let Me know your opinions on color.  Should I go Black or FDE, for some reason I am really hung up on this one.  I am going to use this for Hunting and think the FDE would blend in better in the woods, but you can almost never go wrong with black.  They just stick out like a sore thumb IMHO.  So, what do you think, Cool factor Black or functional FDE?

I'm on the opposite side of the tracks. Black is all I get. You can paint it whatever color you like. Yeah it can be a bear to completely strip it if you ever choose to, but it can be and has been done. Citristrip then oil, you got a brand new baby. IMHO you can't beat classic anodizing for looks.

I usually get black and just paint it if it's an ar15 like my rifle on page 1

But

Something like the desert tech? Completely different gun, no idea if you're gonna like it if you haven't tried one.

Either of these I'd feel good with currently. They are both fairly new builds so not fully vetted but getting there. The carbine is becoming my favorite.

Carbine is SOLGW lower, Zev upper, BCM receiver extension, buffer, spring, etc., Magpul furniture, PA 3x prismatic w/ ACSS, AD QR mount, MI BUIS, BA Hanson pencil barrel, STB trigger, Streamlight on Magpul, SOLGW BCG and Strike Arch CH, all SOLGW internals and build parts and MI Combat rail.

Pistol is BCM complete lower w/ PNT trigger, Magpul furniture, BCM upper, BA Hanson barrel, PA 1x prismatic w/ ACSS, AD QR mount, Olight pistol light, Spike's BCG, BCM CH, all BCM internals and Magpul MBUS, Aero rail.

Both are super accurate and run 100% so far.

If you did post twice, I am glad for it.  You just solved an issue I have been tryig to figure out for the past two weeks.  Where to find a good anodized grey Upper.  Although I would rether have a BCM, Geissele, or Colt Upper Receiver, Aero will do just fine.  I was building an FBI HRT Clone.  Then I said, "F" that FBI HRT SH$T.  Decided to go My own way.  Geissele FBI HRT Green 10" Rail with a Anodized Grey Upper(thus where your Grey Upper fit into the picture),  Geissele DDC Lower with Colt Green Buffer Tube and Green Stock.  I'm going to build an "HRT Honey Badgerish M-4matus Kind of a Clone of a One of A Kind" so bad you'll be Cloning my Clone. I guess I need to ask, are theos AERO Uppers Anodized Grey or Ceracoketed?

Might be worth a shot posting a WYB thread on the EE until you can find one for sale. Someone might stumble on it and sell you one.

I'm interested in finding a set of gray anodized receivers as well.

Thanks Brother, I did see this option, I haven't quite resorted to this one as I did not see any forge markings....I'd like to know where it came from.  I know people say they are all the same as far as forging goes, but I'm just not quite sure about that.

Here is my submission. This rifle is one of three rifles I regularly train with. I have used it during several rifle classes, action rifle competitions, low light/no light classes, etc. Great options out to 400 yards.

BCM 11.5" URG, light weight profile barrel;
Dead Air flash hider;
Modlite comprising a 18350 body with the OKW head; and
Unity Hot Button secured directly to an MLOK slot for remote operation of the Modlite.

Kahles K16i (1-6x); and
Geissele extend mount

Noveske Gen 1 lower receiver;
Geissele SSA trigger;
Magpul CTR stock;
Magpul MOE grip.

@Azalin
So, I just sold my LaRue PredatOBR 7.62.  Been looking for a replacement that is a lot more user friendly on the go.  I almost bought the AK you have pictured as this would have left me a bit of extra cash to play with...  Not really an AK guy, but of course you have to a have a few.  Well, for those of you who have been following along.  I bought the Desert Tech MDR in FDE (sorry to those who voted on black, I just think they stick out a bit too much for a hunting and fighting in the woods kind of Rifle).  I just have to see if there is really a 7.62 out there that a guy can run around with and shoot without a bipod, I suppose a Bullpup would be the thing to try.  Then again, Bullpups have pretty much always sucked.  Terrible triggers.  well, I guess this one is supposed to be about as good as they get.  And, for $2,100.00 NIB Shipped, I'm not going to get hurt on the deal.  I think they go for $2,400-2,500.00 usually.

Back to my point, I like your AK Brother.   Not quite as much as the 11-5 BCM, but it is a sweet rig.  About time the AK caught up with the 21st century.  I think this example is something heading in that direction.

Arsenal just unveiled the AK20. Supposed to be the bee's knees in the kalash world. Purists will cry, but they seem to have addressed the shortcomings of the original design. Won't know until it gets in the field, but the claims are bold.

I know try to buy everything in some shade of FDE or tan if its available. Take it with a grain of salt because I am an FDE whore and I like the 50 shades of FDE nothing matches look, and get bored quickly with black rifles. I do think the MDR or a Tavor 7 would be awesome. I recently got a Tavor SAR and its now my favorite, and my go to.

don't shoot the messenger. I won't be purchasing one. My Romy scratched the AK itch for me and I don't see a reason to upgrade it or purchase another. I have a hard time jumping to another platform. I like redundancies and cross-use of what I have. When it comes to semi-autos, other than my AK and Aero M5E1, they're all small frame ARs in 5.56/.223/.223Wylde flavors. Not dogging the other designs, I just can't bring myself to branch out. Same thing with different calibers. If it's not one I don't already stock up on, I don't even consider it.

5.56-7.62(.)   Although, I do love my LMT MRP because of quick barrel changes.  I just picked up a 12-5 6.8SPC for hunting.  I think, sue to the fact that I shoot 7-10000 a year with it I'll be dropping deer in a full run next year.  At least that's the plan.

Also, I hope the new Dester Tech 7.62 in FDE will be a 7.62 that i actually can run and gun with, thus, another good hunting Rifle.  I'll keep you posted when i get it.  Wont arrive until the 26 or 27.  I hate to wait for a new Rifle.

I have always been the long range shooter my group of shooting buddies.  I really hope this MDR doesn't suck.  I really do not like Bullpups, but I also do not like front heavy rifles.  If they have this thing figured out and the trigger is not trash, it will be my backup, maybe even truck gun...

I got burned by a new design recently, reminded me why I stay in my lane. I live in Temple, TX and Hudson Mfg was based here. My wife and I got H9s to support a local company thinking outside the box, then as we know now they had issues then tanked. Legion Firearms was based here also. Looks to be a pattern. Larue is the only business to stick around in Central Texas.

Mine is still a WIP. I need a sling and a light yet and maybe a hand guard improvement, but at around 500 rounds in this has been a good reliable carbine. It has a BCM BCG and an FN CHF P&W 14.5" middy barrel and runs perfectly with an H2 buffer.

All I can say is that in the service of transparency and good faith dealing, I'll warn prospective buyers to steer clear from purchasing any of my guns secondhand if they are in the market for something looking pristine...

Today's range day with my "GOTO".  Had to chronograph some loads in a snowstorm so it required finding under several feet of snow some range junk and then building a little impromptu shed to cover the chronograph, but it all worked out well.

Apologize for the quality of pics.  I shot a few for the bayonet thread.

For the record, I'm pretty sure I do not shoot as many round in total as some fellows who post here.  Several thousand of all calibers total I suppose during the year, but nothing like the 10's some guys do.

No, I get that, and have my concerns.  But, I saw a lot of reviews that went really badly for the MDR, then they fixed the issues and have since received supporting reviews from many of the YouTube Guys who had initially criticized the Platform rather harshly.  It is a risk, but I do believe the MDR is at this point a sound Rifle.  The other thing is that I really wanrt a light weight Semi Auto 308 that is easily yielded in dense woods and has manageable recoil impulse.  After much research I believe the MDR to be the best in class.  I have been looking for a year or more, thought about the Tavor, but then you need a $600 trigger upgrade to make that thing feel like a normal Rifle.  It seems the MDR might just have about the best trigger any Bullpup has ever had.  I'll most likely do an ARF review once I do receive it and post up a link.
