In a "GoTo Rifle" thread I'd say the old SHTF/3 MOA Challenge is a better indicator of performance than bench accuracy.

One of the interesting things we learned in that Challenge was that the rifles that produce the best mechanical accuracy are not always {in fact, the test showed rarely} used to produce the best "field" results.

You also might not be aware this is a military contract Upper. That is why I was so impressed with the accuracy.

10.5 SBR Mega Ambi Lower.  This thing is accurate and ALWAYS works with whatever I feed it.  (this pic is from a 9mm "phase".  it's back to 5.56)

Just checked out the thread.  Nice.  I would squat if forced to shoot without a sling.  I wish this was still going on, I'd like to get in on the action.

I didn't post very well earlier.  I didn't mean to disparage your post at all!!

Yours just got me thinking about the old Challenge.  I started the SHTF/3 MOA Challenge years ago and that one went on for a few years and it was interesting as we tried to get crossover from the MOA All Day Challenge which was a good one also, but few of those showed up in the SHTF/3 MOA Challenge.

As a matter of fact, I'm actually working on a new idea for a new Challenge which will be even simpler and I think might turn out to be pretty popular.  We just finished our hunting seasons so I'll be back on my range running some tests hopefully this weekend and when I get the details ironed out I'll post it up and see if anyone wants to join in on the fun.

Stay tuned!

That sounds interesting.  A lot of folks don't own the gear you reference so you might get a shorter list of shooters, who knows.  But it would be interesting to set one up like that and the results would be interesting to compare.  Some basics on Challenges I've observed is the need to KISS or folks won't do it, or...they screw up, lose interest and quit.  Each type of shooting Challenge has its plusses and minusses tho so there's always a few tradeoffs.  We modified the 3 MOA Challenge a few times early on in order to accommodate limitations and then it took off.

Just like with the 1 MOA All Day Challenge, we found out who the shooters were, too.

Yeah man, I'll take a guy out that might be bragging on the jobsite, they get humble quick when they don't see a bench and we have 6 different targets ranging from 50 to 500.  When you teach someone how to make 500 yard shots prone, or to hit five targets in under 3 seconds at 50 yards, that make dragging all that gear and setup worth it.  Then you got another gun buddy hooked for life.

I have been doing a drill I love- Start standing- 5 paper silhouette @ 50, 2 rounds each - then 2 targets @ 100, 10'' gongs, 1 shot each - then drop to prone- 2 hits at 500, 1/2 steel silhouette.  My goal is under 15 seconds, best time yet is 17.48.  I have been doing this drill with my SHTF rifle which I posted.

Well I lied about not being able to justify more than $80 for a trigger lol Just dropped $190 on a Hiperfire Reflex. I prefer single stage, and from what I’ve gathered, Geissele hasn’t mastered single stage triggers just yet. I almost purchased the Geissele SSP, but my bank flagged it as fraud last night, and had to wait until this morning to get it straightened out. That gave me more time to do some more research. I’m tempted to grab an SD-E too, while they are on sale.
Edit: just ordered the Geissele HS National Match for my AR10. That and the Hiperfire should give me a good idea whether the extra cost over a LaRure MBT is really worth it.

Thanks Brother.  All over it.  I'll be trickling in submissions of each category over the next few days to a week.  Really glad you threw in the sling allowance, I  believe proper use of a rifle sling is a dying art which should never be considered cheating.  If you can hit vitals standing at 200+ and a sling makes that happen, that is a good thing in my book.  I am a young guy (35) never tried one until last year.  Had a Gun Buddy who happens to be a Nam Vet teach me how to use a sling.  Now I can reliably hit 8'' steel plates at 200 yards standing.  A SIMPLE rifle sling is nearly as good as any natural rest your going to find in the field.  Anyway, I'm rambling with excitement to try this out.  Thanks again for getting it going.

About 10#s...+/-.   And you're correct about what I've got invested, $$$$-wise, however it's really hard to pay twice the price  for a (Geissele) trigger whose only major difference is the hammer height.  I can see paying a bit more like I did for a large pin SSA-E, for my AR6721 as well as paying a a little >$300 for my SCAR17's Geissele trigger.  But $450+???  I'll pass...that is until Geissele reduces their MR556 trigger.

Yeah I suppose, I just have to install Geissele on everything I have now that I am used to them.  The ONLY trigger I have been able to get used to after Geissele is the LMT 2 Stage.  Not a bad trigger for a work gun.  As for the LaRue MBT that came in my 7.62 PredatOBR....  I know guys swear by the MBT but I just don't get it at all.  Shot it once and replaced it with an SD-E.  Brought my prone groups from 1.15 MOA to .7MOA, really nice trigger for prone and hunting IMO.

I have never had an Elcan.  I know they are heavy, but they are nice and really tuff.  I have all the nice $1000-$2000 optics, most of my buddies drool around here, but I haven't made the jump to the really nice stuff yet.  I want to get a S&B and an Elcan in the near future.  Its just that every time I have that kind of cash I either buy a new gun a spend it on NV items.

You only have two eyes (re NV) and you've got the premium (I presume variable) optics covered...buy the Elcan next.  Sure it's a bit heavy, but the clarity of the glass, wide FOV and longer eye-relief make up for any perceived shortcomings.

Here's some enticement to consider...drink the Canadian kool-aid.

Really nice looking SCAR.  I have really came to love my Comp M5, I also like the range offered by my Accupoint 1-4.  The Elcan is a Comp M5 on Steroids,  With 500 meter capabilities.  I need one.  Probably should have bought one this BF but I went nuts on Geissele, I also picked up an Omega 300 and a Gen 2 SF RC.  Did get some great news last night though.  My Tax Stamp came in for my SF Ryder 9Ti.  I filed 9/21/18.  Long Fn wait for a Can, cruel and unusual punishment if you ask me.  Either way, my MP5 is gonna love it.

I am in the same boat @M-4matus lol. It's uncanny.

I had a small stash started with the intent of growing it into an Elcan. Geissele BF rolled around and I bought an SD3G and a DDC lower receiver. Almost bought a DDC fed rail for a 12.5" reflex suppressor build, but that would have put me back at 0$ saved for the Elcan

It's funny, I have some really nice optics too, no NV yet, but I've thought about downsizing the amount of ARs and optics I have (retaining the S&B ShortDot 1.1-4 and EXPS3-0 for the blackouts) and getting an Elcan and S&B 1-8 CC in RAL8000 for the 5.56 rifles.

Currently my go-to hunting rifle

Heck with that, give us all the details from stem to stern!

PVS14 on a pic mount.

I think I got it here. Can't remember.

It's great for static hunting.

@BCV I have a couple pvs14's but  I have been told never to mount them direct for fear of damaging the thin filmed tubes I have.  What Tubes are you running?

PVS-14s do well on .556, but I did get scolded for mounting one to a 7.62X39 Arsenal AK.
My PVS-14 has withstood plenty of rounds from generally suppressed AR-15 .556 SBRs.
No damage from the AK, but I may have just been lucky.
While fun to use this way, totally inferior to helmet/harness mount with even the simplest IR laser.
Add an illuminator and it's just not fair at all.
If in a relatively static position, clip on NV to the rail, just flip up the monocular for those longer shots.

Yeah I think I'm just gonna keep running Goggles and my DBAL.  Head up shotin, the hell out of some steel.  I will however, some day, get one of those new Trijicon Thermal Clip-ons for static shooting on my SPR.

Kind of off topic, IDK, these are genuine back up GoTo and GoTo Truck guns so close enough , Just ordered an Omega 300, on the way to file the forum 4 I got the call my tax stamp came in for my SF Ryder 9Ti.  First suppressor out of jail.  OMG I never want to shoot unsuppressed again.  I got the Omega 300 to live between my 300BLK and my SPR.  After shooting the SF Ryder all night long (stopped at 2am)  I'm definitely buying the SF SOCOM RC for my SHTF Rifle and my new URGI it will look just perfect on the URGI.

I knew Ambien wasn't for me after I ate two entire holiday pies that were needed for the next day and spent thousands of dollars online while eating them.

I was jokingly asking, why if he's grabbing an AR in a "one rifle" scenario, why he wouldn't opt for the E3 bolt, which I know that he has, given the proven durability advantages.

This has thicker barrel than KAC offers to go with happy switch, also because of the heat that makes I like the thinner profile of MK14 w/ rail covers.
And furthermore, I believe Carbonation must be destroyed.

@WhiskersTheCat
I hope you aren't one of these guys that doesn't laugh.  I don't want to ruin my own thread by actually saying one of the stupid kinds of things that come into my head and cause me to randomly laugh out loud when nothing has been said...  I'll be in the kitchen pouring a drink, just start laughing my ass off.

My wife will look at me from the living room kind of like your dog does when you slip on the ice and break your elbow just so your shotgun doesn't make contact with the ground.  "Wife cocks her head a little bit to the side like what the hell is wrong with you guy.  I would never do that".  You get up bleeding into your waders through 3 layers of jackets, first thing you do is check to see if your gun got scratched.  Dogs just now realizing he is Owned by an idiot, finally looks away and just takes a shit.

You decide not to go out on the duck boat due to your might be broken elbow.  Driving home your look in the rearview mirror to find your prized Retriever chewing on the buttstock of the $2500.00 shotgun you forgot to put in its case because you got side tracked duct taping your elbow shut.  Son of bitch.

So yeah, sometimes I laugh for no reason, say dumb shit and get hurt when I'm excited.  You guys want to go shooting with me sometime
