This is really pushing my Franken-H idea further! I just need the Armalite tube to get here so I mean measure OD to see if the recce rail will match up. If not I'll just use a S-EX rail as a stand-in to hover above the rail sections that will be added. Edit: what's the OD of the ring? I just realized that it sits JUST below the recce rail. If the locking ring is bigger than the PRI variant then it won't work. |

The locking collar is 2.38" and the step down from it before hitting the 2" tube is 2.19"

Just under 11.5". The lower's in sad shape as it's had all the annoying stuff filled in and sanded, but it hasn't ceased raining long enough to get a chance to coat it. Way the flash catches the magwell is making me cringe.

SPR rail is out of the question since rails would be 0.25" high on the handguard. Even an A.R.M.S. S-EX might not work with it. @Hunterex does the recce rail bolt to the handguard or does that "foot" just rest on top of it? I always read people say to be patient and now I believe them when they say their rigs are years in the making to get them just how they want them. I started small and just shot the piss out of what I had while making tweaks along the way. Turns out my mom and dad did something right when they bought two Leupold Vari-X III scopes that would eventually be given to me Gonna have to pony up the dough for a Lilja because I want to use that Vari-X III 2.5-8 on the OG Seal Recce. And probably the Vari-X III 3-9 on the Franken-H with the CLE stick that will be here Saturday. |

The recce rail bolts to the rear lug of the 8.5" top rail. Going to take a lot of work to get a recce rail to work with the ArmaLite tube.
PRi has a line of risers that are worth taking a look at. Alternatively, one of the direct attach SPR rails may be a good candidate for relieving the underside to match the larger OD of your tube. |
|
|
That makes sense. You mean the Delta forearm SPR rails? I wonder if the standard recce rail would work with just a spacer at the front as a stand in for the rail it would normally attach to? Or just mill out the rear of a rail section so it attaches (sort of) like it's supposed to.
I don't know what the final product will be, but I just have this idea I can't shake! So far the idea manifests as: Armalite fiberglass tube, PRI recce rail modified to fit (top rail sections are up in the air), Vari-X III 3-9, LaRue mount/NF A203 (I like my shit sky high and this isn't a clone anyhow), CLE recce barrel. |

I thought about using PRI rail sections to match up with the top rail of the receiver, but I'm not sure there is enough meat there to lose 0.125" Edit: I just remembered that Arisaka makes a low profile rail section and they list the height on their website. Does anyone have a PRI section handy to measure the height? If they are 0.125" different I'm going to loose my mind. |
|

You would move the recce rails contact pad UP .125, with a 2.25" rad cutter DIA, from the center of the current pad location.
Setup for 2.25" dia, touch off on recce rail pad, then machine over .125". Take a measurement from the bottom of the pad to the bottom of the rail, and subtract .125 = the step thats gonna be left to see what rails would fit in there. |
