Myself, my wife, and mom got one and they've all run well. I'd like to see DD pick it up just for parts down the road if there are hiccups. But at least one company is/was producing replacement small parts, so there is support. |

Sure, recent events aren't super PC, yet this is the GWOT thread. Does terrorism not apply when it's homegrown? Might be splitting hairs with semantics, but I don't want to get this locked down.

These days it seems like a lot don't take the 1911 seriously because of it's capacity. I'm curious to know if the 1911's capacity was a concern for those that could choose between either in the field. |

View Quote @FlyingMailman Back in Oct 03', I carried 3 tuff boxes full of M1911A1s (250ea) from Ft Campbell (pulled out of depot) to Baghdad. Old and new guys fought over them. I did my first CQB training at Mott Lake (Bragg) in 86'. We did CQB with M16A1s, M3A1 SMG and the M1911A1s then. My pistol belt in Iraq then carried either a M9 holding 106 rounds, 15+1 rds in gun and six spare 15 rd mags. Swapped pistol and mags the M1911A1 carried 105 rds of .45, 8+1 in gun and 12 spare 8 rd mags. Two single stack 1911 mags can be carried in one double stack M9 pouch. M12 holster fits both guns. Earlier when in Haiti 95'. Under my blouse in a shoulder holster was the 1911 and pistol belt held the M9. Would do the same in Iraq later when in a gun turret. Shoulder holster was always quicker to pull out a handgun then reaching below the turret and trying to get a pistol from belt rig out. That's my experience. Never had to shoot anyone with a 1911. Came close one time while in Kentucky off duty and almost shot a Iraqi with a suppressed M9 in 91' but then dug out my M16A2/M203. 5.56mm and 40mm HEDP work better. CD |

CD View Quote Thanks for the reply, that's very interesting to hear. So it sounds like despite the decreased magazine capacity of the M1911A1, it was still widely coveted over the M9. Did the guys over there who had to use them find the .45 to be more effective than the M9's 9mm? These days it seems like capacity is king and that despite 9mm being smaller it is preferred because you can have 15+1 or more. Also, I heard of USP 45's being used over there in that time frame. Is there any truth to that? |

Problem was lack of spare parts and armorers knowing the older weapon systems such as the 1911, M14 and M79. Never saw any USPs in .45 SEALS were running the 45C in 16' in Iraq however. I always gave my M9 to our SAW or 240 gunner. If things came down to using a pistol, that is bad news

To me, it's always a good idea to always carry two sacks of something when you walk around. That way, if anybody says, "Hey, can you give me a hand?," you can say, "Sorry, got these sacks."
