Some guys liked 1911A1s some did not. I worked on them for a few years and I knew of two S.F. groups that got G.I unmodified 1911A1's for issue downrange. They were hit and miss, a lot of guys acquired aftermarket parts for them and gussied them up with varying degrees of success. There were no spares, extra magazines or other items for them in the beginning. A lot of GPC purchases later and some dedicated guys bringing their own stuff got them going finally.

Hey fellas looking for a few answers and not real sure where to ask at. It’s not really clone questions but I want answers form you experts not just the average arfcom’rs. I’ve finished up my mk12 mod 1 except for glass and can’t really decide what I want. I’m 6 months in on the wait for my aem5 and have the itch to build a fde mod H. I’m thinking of using a kac ambi lower, lmt sopmod, and a vortex razor 1-6 (or 10 depending on what I can find a good deal on) in a larue mount.

So my questions are what collar are you using for the aem5 long or short?

For the barrel with using a 18 Douglas 1/7 twist it’s recommended to only use heavy bullets or else it’s possible to spin the jacket off causing a end cap strike. I would like to set the model H up to shoot primarily xm193 (or 55 grain equivalent) ammo. Will a 16” 1/8 Douglas barrel be ok for this or do I need an even slower twist rate? If so any recommendation? I’m putting the need to shoot lighter grain cheaper ammo ahead of precision.

Thanks in advance.

Long collar is the only one used. You'll be fine shooting 55 gr in 1/7. I do it all the time and have no issues.

Ah ok, got it. I do find it interesting that even as late as 2016 in the GWOT, 8-10 round .45's were chosen over higher capacity 9mm's.

ive had exactly ONE end cap strike....it was minor, and it was on my 12.5" 1/7 with the aem5.....after the 3rnd or 4th rapid fire mag through it (it was HOTTTTT)....andddd the last two mags were accidently 75gr otm. my bet is it got so hot that the barrel sagged a bit and whip changed to make interference.

ive shot 55gr, 75gr, and a bunchhhh of 22lr through the 12.5" and 16", both 1/7, AND been ok. that one trip i kinda did a full send and got bit. the gordon clone begs to go fast :)

USP 45 was carried in a thigh rig by a cav scout Capt. he loved it. ill always remember that. i might have pics...

I seem to remember that that a small purchase of H&K USP tactical models in .45acp were procured for some odd reason fairly early into OIF/OEF and I think they ended up being used by some EOD personnel.

Baby steps on the cobble build. Can't decide between a 12.5" or 14.5" barrel, or whether to use a 249F or ops collar and brake.

I've got a bunch of those.  Even have them in the GI 20rd mag pouch.  Local surplus store just got a bunch of the mag pouches and they actually all have the belt clips.

I used to have a few Magpul 10s and 20s but I'm not sure what even happened to them. All I have are 30 rounders, mostly Magpul, a few Center, Brownells, Lancer, and one ETS so the interlocking feature is useless even though I wouldn't run it that way

I decided on a 249F thanks to a GWOTonian. I thought I was set on a 12.5 for that but then I remembered that CLE can spin up a 14.5 carbine in recon profile. Then I remembered I fully intend to use and abuse this one, so a CLE stick might just be a waste. Does anyone make a CHF heavy profile carbine barrel? I'm trying to keep it as close to the standard M4 aesthetic as possible since I've already got plans to slap on some unconventional stuff like the chopped up AK dong guard.

No effin' way would I pay $245 for a TNT barrel! Its a no brainer to me to spend another hundo and get quality like Colt or FN. That brand of barrel the last time I tried a couple was nothing but problems. To each their own though.

So you're saying there is a chance?

I might just go with a BA 12.5 or 14.5 and be done with it. The whole point of this was to use as many spare parts as possible for a cheap way to do GWOT shit. The scales from beater to bougie are beginning to tip.

I am just going to use the Nightforce A203 set as a set of double ghost rings

But for real, I just need a set of 30mm to 1in reducers and I'm going to use a Leupy Vari-X III 2.5-8.

Big army uses a LOT of shitty mossberg 500 series. Frankly i'd rather wrap them around a tree than use one. Aluminum receivers with the ejector direct screwed to the bare aluminum with a steel screw that keeps coming loose under recoil. Non repairable. Instant code out if the threads strip. The magazine tubes have been known to pop out on occasion, and the stocks come loose frequently as well.  Pure garbage.

On the other hand, i built myself a pistol grip 870 shorty aow based on the breeching guns we had.

I've a pic somewhere of me with a benelli series in kuwait. Found it in a connex.still worked fine after we got all of the dust off.

Well it wasn’t a joke ad, but it also wasn’t a SIR 59m. Got it earlier today and it was a couple inches short of my rifle length quad. I had to go back to work but I believe it’s actually a midlength 58m... the search continues. Y’all think I should keep it, talk to the guy about returning it, or sell it myself?

Edit To Add: I just realized I could make a COD MW2 M4a1 Clone build. Should I?
