@mike_nds I just bought a H&R XM177 second hand from some that says it's unfired. It has a one piece gas ring on the bolt. I thought it was odd because the bolt is so loose in the carrier (you can't pull the bolt and set the bolt/carrier on the bolt face without it collapsing). Is this how they are being shipped or have I been taken?

also where are the barrels marked?

That bolt is probably not ours or the guy put in a Mcfarland.

Toolcraft makes ours and they are really stiff.

Thanks for letting me know. I reached back out and we'll see what he says. I hope the upper is H&R and not some other brand. It took three clicks to the left on a 25 yard zero, but otherwise ran like a raped ape. I'll break it down and look at the barrel later this evening or tomorrow.

Does this look like an H&R barrel or bolt to anyone? It's marked G 5.56 NATO 1/7

I'm thinking I got scammed on this deal. The  seller told me it was a H&R factory XM177E2 with a 1/12 barrel. It has a G marked 1/7 barrel. Did any H&R factory Commando rifles ship like this? He said he got one of the first ones and that it came with a plastic stock instead of the coated aluminum stock, but that her replaced the stock. I'm not happy right now unless someone can convince me otherwise.

Mike, did H&R XM177E2 carbines ship with factory 1/7 barrels in the 9004XX range? I'm starting to think this may have been a stripped lower build or a lower half that was built on a LuthAR upper or something. The castle nut staking isn't making me feel too good either.

The XMs say XM177E2 on the receiver, not Commando. Has PSA even shipped complete Commando-marked rifles in that configuration? I see stripped and complete lowers listed on the site, but no complete rifles.

Well, here's a complete pic. I hate being lied to. Ugh. Just occurred to me, do all H&R factory rifles have the flashing on the uppers?

Yes, all of them have flashing. That’s a partial fence lower too, so it isn’t even correct.

That wasn’t bought as a complete rifle.

You got scammed. That's a mix master someone put together. The bolt, lower, upper/lower color, intact bayo lug, spot weld location are all wrong.

Why purchase a used one when the new ones are still available?

OK at least it's a real H&R barrel and upper receiver. Thank you.

I'm stuck with this, but at least I don't have to worry about dismounting the barrel and checking the torque specs and regreasing it with proper aeroshell grease.

Sorry for the thread hijack, Mike. Thanks for producing the best ARs in the world.  I'll buy direct in the future.

No, I think that he bought a complete commando lower and a complete 12.7" A1 upper. Then my guess is that the upper was sent off to have the pin and weld done. When he received the upper back, my guess is he installed the incorrect bolt (whether on accident or on purpose) into the upper. Then for some reason he tried to pass it off as a factory build. That's all speculation on my part, but that chain of events make sense to me.

He still maintains it came from PSA as a complete rifle. He said the lower originally shipped with a plastic stock and that he replaced it with a coated aluminum stock, which I have no issue with. I'm going to keep the rifle and enjoy it. Im done worrying about it because it isn't worth the stress.

Looks like a commando upper, round FA and later door, that he had a P&W done to make it legal.  He got the commando lower too.  I would be a little pissed about the bolt but other then that 1000 bucks is not bad.  The lower is about $420 if bought whole and the upper about 600.  But he did not buy it this way so he lied.  Maybe he wanted to get some money back to put toward getting the more correct setup????
EDIT:  thought you said you paid a K for it.  Looked again did not see where you said that.

You don't need aeroshell grease.  A good, non lithuim, wheel bearing grease or antisieze will suffice.  A little goes a long way.

Easy solution - get a black upper and then you are forced to get a black lower!

It's a vicious cycle...

You can get Aeroshell 33MS on ebay for 10 bucks. Not sure why anyone wouldn't just use the correct grease.

All the grease is for is to get proper torque specs and prevent galling.  I just don't like white lithium grease, or graphite for that matter.  A good moly grease, or Lucas wheel bearing grease. wipe some on, torque it down and your are done.  No magic in the aeroshell.

Regular grey stripped A1 uppers lasted a whopping 35 minutes this time.  Kinda surprised we didn't crash the PSA website...

Only Model 1 shorty carbine handguards.  And you'd probably need to replace the handguard ring behind the front sight.
