Thanks for that.  I was curious what "stitchclimber" is in the PWD.  I didn't find anything matching it when I searched.

Anyone know the OD of the SMOS / Noveske bbl nuts? Been trying to google-fu it, but apparently I need to spend more time in the dojo training because I can't find the answer.

PM sent. I've found that the SMOS, V7, and NSR barrel nuts all have diffent spacing for the screw holes. I also have 2 of the NSR barrel nuts that i'm not using. They work great with ebay nsr clone handguards. All are high quality 7075 aluminum with 10-32 thread pitch.

Glad i could help!!! You know ask and ye shall receive!!! :D Most of us have been at this lightweight game for a while, there's a lot of useful knowledge on here. We should just start a company, lol.

indeed. I added the info about who sells the stichclimber bbl nuts to the PWD in the comments field. Also added their other models. Previously only their ridiculously light KMR bbl nut was in there. Now all 3 models have been included.

So new frontier has redesigned their polymer accu-trigger. The material now appears to be an engineering grade thermoplastic. The trigger pull is crisper as a result.

Yeah, 3 of them total. Bought an extra as a spare just in case of breakage. Can you post a pic of the new improved ones?

Well I just received one a few days ago and probably won't get to the range till next week sometime.  I can say its looking good and its lightweight!  I just put a adjustable gas key on it!   My 14.5 gun is my lightest now, Its dead on 4lb with this bolt carrier so Im going to stop here and be HAPPY with it!

I will post the build with a parts list and picks after I tune it in!

Here are some bolt carrier picks if I do it right!

I didn't think anyone would get the pad. The open provides some flex to soften the recoil. You don't need the closed or the pad with 556.

Still you got a lot of nice parts, we all want to see it finished.

my SPR build 'with a little light weight thrown in' is almost done. Just need to replace my boat-anchor Vortex FH for a slim Faxon one and to get an Al carrier for my LW SBR so I can use the Faxon Gunner LW Steel carrier in the SPR and it should be right about 8 lbs 3 oz, with optic and bipod ready (no bipod attached, but there's a pic rail for it). Considering it has a heavy as hell grip (Larue apeg), ACS-L stock, and a 18" HB, that ain't bad! I'll post pics when it's done. I think it's a cool build where I use some LW parts/ideas to try to offset some compromise/heavy parts. GB, pins, mounting hardware etc. are mostly Ti. Even my sight screw/nut and scope ring bolts are Ti!

To be honest I was scared to get the open shoulder that I would  tear it up and I bought the same stock for my wife’s rifle and liked it.

The open shoulder design is very durable, i have dragged mine around and it shows only the slightest signs of wear.

The new design is on the right. The top of the hammer has an obvious difference, some kind of knob??? The material feels alot more durable and slicker. The hammer spring is different because i'm using a geissele ssa-e hammer spring, instead of the included XP hammer spring since it's not needed for 223. I'm also rocking a wolff reduced power disconnector and trigger spring, the feel of the trigger is vastly improved. You have to use a standard power hammer spring with this combo though to get a reliable reset.

I'll have to look at my newest ones to see if they are old vs new style. I didn't get them THAT long ago, so maybe they are the new ones? I dunno, but I'm sure the one in my SBR is the old school design...I've had it a couple years now.

BDRC

I hounded them on face book, they finally refunded me after months. The guy also said they were also shipping me one to make up for it, still haven't seen that. Oh well. I got my money back.

I guess lesson learned:
Never do business with BDRC.

Just saw a TFB article about Rise Armament releasing a lw steel BCG.  Their website claims the weight is 8.9 oz

Here is the link to their website.

Carrier is 8620 steel, bolt is 9310 both MPI tested.  Not the lightest, but on par with RTB, AIM and Rubber city for the same material.

That’s looking good!

Using the pad might be a good idea. I know I’ll take heat for this but my .556 LW gun beats my shoulder to death. I’m running a JP alum BCG, Taccom buffer that’s been further lightened and my gas is adjusted to just allow it to cycle. Dang tiny BAD aluminum stock obviously doesn’t help matters. Something will have to change.

Even with a properly gassed sub 5 lb 308 the smokes composites open stock is pleasant to shoot. Maybe because it's got some flex to it? My only complaint, and it's a minor one, is that it could use some texture to make slipping less of an issue. I haven't had any issues with accuracy or anything, as long as you know how to fire a rifle properly it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe if you dropped it in the mud it would get too slippery to use well??? Overall it's my favorite fixed stock.

Has anyone had decent accuracy results from a build using the Fostech magnesium upper?  My 6.5 Grendel build is stringing shots vertically ~4 moa, and I'm trying to rule out potential causes.

EDIT: problem wasn't the upper

What kind of ammunition? If the variable in accuracy is only vertical I'm not sure if the upper would be causing it. My 300 blk is using a fostech upper, 6.5 in barrel, it shoots sub 3 moa at 100 yards, although I'm sure it could do better with a more qualified marksman. No distinct difference in vertical vs horizontal group size.

Hornady black, and some handloads using a popular charge weight of arcomp that shot an SD under 10 fps in my rifle.

I was wondering if the upper getting hot could cause it to string shots.

While waiting on the mag upper, I temporarily threw the rifle together with an aero forged upper, and it shot much better than it does now.  I will switch back to it if I have to, but I bedded the barrel to the mag upper with green loctite, and it won't come loose without taking a torch to it.

Well that certainly seems like an interesting problem. You never know, it could be the heat effecting the poi like on a cheap ak. Armed with this Intel, I don't think I'll be using the magnesium uppers on any rifles. It seems to work fine on my 6.5 in pistol though, even when simulating full auto with the echo trigger. What profile is the barrel?

The barrel is a 16" Faxon gunner profile.  Faxon is well known for making thin profile barrels that hold POA/POI under rapid fire, so I do not suspect a problem there.  I'm not confident that the mag upper is the problem yet, I just wanted to get some other data points if possible before I risk damaging the part while trying to un-glue the barrel from it.

I re-torqued the barrel nut one "gas tube notch" looser (it was on pretty dang tight), and I remounted the gas block while paying particular attention to the fitment of the gas tube into the bolt carrier gas key.  Hopefully, one of those adjustments will pay off.
