Yeah the whole ground serial thing is pretty retarded if you ask me.

FWIW though, the only time I've heard of the man coming for LAMs is NCIS showing up on a dudes doorstep after he bought an LA-5 on ebay. (They took it from him, no charges) Same dude has bought countless PEQ-15s 16s and LA-5s since then and been fine though. I guess it just depends if you're willing to tango, and they seem to be more interested in the higher powered units such as the LA-5 series. My PEQ is also now gone tho because I traded my PVS 14 for that ACOG/RMR

I ordered a trijicon RX01 NSN for my block 1.5. Will post pics when mounted. Since I am too broke for an ACOG.

Those tri rails are seem pretty handy. Got any closer up pics of different angles? Looks perfect for placing the light a little closer to the muzzle.

Got out to the range yesterday day to sight the Acog in. Still have to check the docter. Had some decent 100yd groups both slow and fast fire.

A lot of the parts I've I've gotten towards clone builds have been from the '04 to '07 time frame. All of my builds (m4/mk18) tend to stay within that timeframe with a few exceptions.

I'll take some better pics today from different angles. It's much lighter than the other tail extension seen ITW (Ergo) and the lock up/alignment is better as well.

Too bad the propagation of free float rails killed off this little guy- it's still a viable option for putting a white light out a little further and freeing up space for your hand or other rail attached devices, for guys that can't permanently modify issued rifles.

So I have a question is it acceptable to use a  ta31rco in a block 1/1.5 build rather than a TA01NSN?  I was looking at pics of various special forces groups and some had rco’s instead of the TA01NSN.

True the TA01NSN was originally issued in 95' with the Block I.  RCO/M150 didn't come out until after the 9/11.

If you use the rx01-nsn, you should also use the polarizing filter. It allows you to adjust the background tone to give the appearance of a brighter dot compared to the background. Works great outdoors when shooting with both eyes open. I usually turn it all the way to dark.

I'm gonna say the dot isn't bad at all and with the accompanying polarizing filter, it becomes really visible. The dot in mine is a 4.5 or 6.5 moa in amber.  I say get one and if you don't like it, put it up for sale. I bought 2 and like em a lot. Might sell one since I need to cut down on my duplicates to free up funds for other projects.

eta: here's a co-witnessed pic I took through the peep of my rear sight. You can see the bright amber dot on my front post.
its not the best pic so don't judge the brightness of the dot. This one is very old and the tritium is pretty much burnt out but, the fiber optic is in excellent condition.

I've owned both and prefer the illuminated reticle of the TA31. The NSN is just as good as the 31, just slower to pick up for my eyes. Could be a disadvantage against a darker background, although it does have tritium for low light. Other than that, same shit really.

Owned and used both on privately owned rifles and used the TA31 on issued rifles. I prefer the 01 over the 31 for the reticle personally, but really it's 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

I will say that reticle is better for 100-300m precision shots for sure. I want to get the TA31 with the TA01NSN reticle in it thats illuminated. I think that's the perfect 4x ACOG that can't be beat right there. Except maybe by the ACSS

I use the TA31H (RCO-2) which is perfect for me as it is basically an EOTech reticle with BDC. The RCO is a slightly modified TA31F reticle though (chevron)

Not really, although it is labeled as the RCO-2 and the Marines do use a modified TA31H reticle in some of their newer ACOGs nowadays. But honestly nobody is going to see your reticle except you. So get what you like as long as its a TA31 or TA01NSN

Eta: most issues seem to be in direct/full sun.

Full sun is definitely an issue. When I first got one I couldn't find the reticle because I was pointing it at the light source. I believe full sun is what the polarizer was designed to counter. I've made decent 100yd shots on an 8" plate with mine. The dot is super crisp. Definitely shoot with it before you decide. The no batteries aspect is what really draws me towards this as a reflex option.

I have the ta31-Ecos which has the same reticle as the ta01. Sighted mine in yesterday. I need to make a shade for the fiber optic because long distance was difficult due to the brightly illuminated reticle. The bdc started to blur together.
