I have a new Block I upper that I need to get muzzle device pinned and welded. Would I be better getting an extended A2 flash hider or get my Surefire Socom SF3p flash hider installed? Can't make up my mind most seem to use the extended A2 flash hider.

One big difference between the newer version and old is that it’s not weapon dependent anymore (you set the laser to what weapon system) and it mounts on the rail vs. barrel clamps from previous generations. |

Torn between doing a M4 block 1.5 PR and a MK18 MOD 0 block 1.5. Any thoughts?

If price is a factor, even the most expensive off the shelf non-NFA M4 clones (either Colt with 14.5 with pin/weld or FN M4 collectors edition) are still probably cheaper than an NT4 and tax stamp by themselves. An Mk18 with an NT4 and Aimpoint is a classic thing of beauty though, so yea, start planning on acquiring both. View Quote Attached File |

Hey guys, I’ve got a question about pin and weld on a 14.5 and using a NT4 suppressor. Can you use an Adco shim and a crush washer and still be safe from baffle strikes?

That said, i have a few questions. First of which, based on my built list what would be the correct uid decal to order from carolina laser works? Im building a mk12 mod 0 spr upper as well(hence the kac 2 stage trigger), maybe i should just throw a mk12 uid on it? I also am unsure of what barrel to go with, mk18 inspired I planned to get a Fn gov. profile 14.5 but it seems my build is more block 1 M4 sopmod so should i just get another Colt 14.5 Socom? Lmt barrel? Up to you, no one is ever going to see the barrel markings or profile And is a colt square forge upper okay or do i need to hunt down a keyhole? The upper i got has no cage#, should it get one that does? There's about a dozen combinations of uppers you can use. Just use one that been shown as a contractor part. https://www.ar15.com/forums/ar-15/Some-Forge-Mark-Basics/128-641465/ Is a Colt C stamped bcg the only way to go, or is a Lmt enhanced something thats kosher or was ever issued? Either Colt, FN or Toolcraft (got one with their Cage Code around here somewhere) Never seen a LMT BCG in service. Upper: -Colt square forge upper receiver -Colt carbine gas tube -Colt C stamped bcg? -Colt 14.5 Socom barrel -Kac Ras vero marked, 4-25-2006 dated Nsu#1005-01-452-3527 with vero era broomstick grip -Kac flash hider p/n 93048 (shimmed, pinned and welded) -Pri M84 gas buster charging handle, combat latch -Lmt fixed rear sight Nsn# 1005-01-548-5193 -Cqd rail sling mount -Surefire M962 Nsu#06a01 with sw02 clicky (got the thin body version, is the fat body that appears on the mk18 operations manual the older version?) -Aimpoint M2 M68 CCO -Wilcox mount p/n 13600G01 cage# marked Lower -Colt 2018 qr code M4 Carbine lower receiver -Colt lower parts kit -Colt 4 position buffer tube and castle nut -Colt buffer spring and 4.6oz H2 weight -Colt Vietnam era mottled bakalite A2 grip ????????? A2 grip is post Vietnam and never made of bakalite -Cqd receiver plate -Lmt first gen Sopmod stock -Kac 2 stage trigger p/n 25926 Thanks for the help :) View Quote CD |

@JakeM Well thank you for the support! I always went the pin and weld route. Its cheap, can be done in your own garage and give you the 14.5" appearance you are going for. Ive also pinned and welded 10.5" barrels to achieve an overall length of 26+ inches so I could run a vertical fore grip. So I have nothing against pin and welding and say go for it. With that said, I filed my E form 1 for a sbr and had it reviewed and approved within 25 days of submitting it. The e form wait times are rediculously low right now. While I don't see anything wrong with Pin and Welds, the freedom you get when you go the sbr is outstanding. I can run any length barrel I want without having to worry about ATF red tape. If I want to run a 10.3" which is what I applied for, I can. If i want to temporarily switch it out for this 14.5" I can. I can also drop a 20" upper on it should I choose to. I can run a vertical fore grip on all the variations of uppers if I so choose. I was against sbr'ing for along time being that I thought it was a lot of paper work and hassle, but its no different than filling out a basic firearms form to purchase a gun. Most FFL's can supply you with the finger print cards for like $10-20 dollars and you can take your own photo at home to submit to the atf. In the form where it asks reasons for owning a sbr, I just put "For all Lawful Purposes" and was approved. I say save the money on a pin and weld job, buy a quality lower that you want to keep long term and get it SBR'ed! Its worth it. -Brandon
EDIT* - don't forget, if you do go the sbr route, once approved make sure to get your name, city and state engraved on the firearm as it appears on the paperwork. |
