Sweet!!  Thanks for the info, I was wondering if I got a knock off mount but it looks good now.  Never knew there were several variations, I shoulda asked here before I bought a second one but now I have a spare.

Was the Aimpoint CompM (not M2) fielded under the M68 name? I'm putting a block 1 clone together and the used "CompM2" i bought off ebay turned out to be a "CompM". I'm trying to figure out if the CompM would have been present on some of the earlier SOPMOD block I M4s.

The Comp M was the original M68 Close Combat Optic (CCO). Yes, I believe the Comp M would have been in initial SOPMOD and SOPMOD Block 1 kits. The original reflex sight, RX01NSN, didn't stay in use for very long and were in the process of being replaced when the transition to Block 1 began.

The DoD (Army specifically) never changed the nomenclature as the CCO models advanced from the Comp M to the Comp M2, M4, M4s and now the upcoming M5.

Comp M's were in service for a long time. The first CCO I was issued around 2010 was a Comp M. It was rapidly replaced by an M2, M4 and I am now currently issued an M4s.

I was in a "tier II" unit ("Group" SF land) that rated SOPMOD kits.

We received the M68s as a "Big Army" fielding in early 2000. They were NOT part of SOPMOD. Units that were treated better for equipment, like the Navy SEALs, our SF CIF company, etc were already using them before then, at least a year. The guy on the front cover of "Black Rifle II" was from our CIF company, and that photo was taken in June 99. Theirs could have been COTS purchases though.

The newly arrived M68s quickly replaced the ACOG NSN Reflex sights. By the time of a June  2000 deployment I went on, almost all were gone, or related to things like the 249s.

Only time I used the Reflex sight was during the train up before the company went in mass to SFARTAETC in 98'.  There we used earlier Aimpoints.  Came back and went back to my ACOG TA01NSN since I had the Sniper team.  We later got the M68s quickly after that.

New Block I build in the works.  Really sticking with what is depicted in the Block I picture from the first page of this thread.  Using a carry handle for now until I have the funds for an optic.  Will be getting a TA01NSN and KAC full size 300M rear sight for it.  At some point I’ll also swap out the extended A2 for a pinned/welded NT4 flash hider with spacer.

New build. Looking forward to fleshing it out, I’ve got a stripped M4A1 PSA lower that I’ll build up for this but slapped it on my CQBR lower to test fit. I’ve got an old 951 and KAC grip that I’ll put on it and I’ll likely try to pick up a TA01-NSN

Thanks!! So the LMT FDE is more brown than the B5. Might just be the lighting in the picture, but does the B5 have a more orange/yellow tint to it?

The LMT FDE is more brown like most FDE furniture is. The Coyote Brown B5 SOPMOD Enhanced has sort of a goldish-brown hue. It is close to FDE, but just a shade darker. Even with FDE, you have varying hues depending on who the manufacturer may be. Personally, I like the contrast in color that the Coyote Brown brings against the varying shades of FDE you see on Block IIs. FYI, Primary Arms has the B5 Gen 1 SOPMOD Enhanced Gov't Contract Overruns (black or coyote brown).

Many thanks for all the responses. How is the lockup on the latest B5 enhanced SOPMOD stocks (i.e. tight, loose, etc...)?

Agree.
The CB is also close to the Taupe color used by KAC

I’m putting the finishing pieces on my block 1 clone and don’t know if I should rattle can or not rattle can it that is the question. I’m going for a early GWOT ~2002 SEAL clone. If I should spray it any suggestions on a pattern that was used in the early part of the war?

Picked up one of the PD trade ins from Primary Arms for starter Block 1 build. Pretty good deal with the Aimpoint Comp M2, GG&G rear sight, and padded BFG sling included. Added a Vero RAS to begin and acquired a Matech rear.

Things I noticed immediately:

- The lower is marked with the usual Colt Defense and Hartford Conn, but says "Made in Canada".
- Has the MIL/LE restricted markings on right side of magwell.
- Upper and carrier are marked with the stylized Diemaco "D" instead of the Colt C.
- Bolt is marked MPD instead of MPC.
- Really nice grey shade of anodizing.
- Has the exposed threads on the buffer tube milled off.
- Large Pin trigger group.
- Government profile barrel.

That's kinda where I'm at currently.

Trying to decide ta01 or ta31. I had an NSN previously so I'm down to try something different.

I vote TA01NSN w/ docter on top. If your keeping it a sopmod clone then that's the way to go. Helps distinguish it from a big army clone.  It's the small things.
