Pondering the idea of stamping this lower and cutting the barrel down to 10.3”. Thoughts on cutting down a SOCOM barrel?

I wouldn't cut it.  I would just start building a 10.3 starting with the barrel of your choice.  Then you have both!

This, I would start a new build.  I’ve done what you’re thinking before and in the end it ends up costing me more.  I always seem to rebuild the rifle I originally tore down to do something different with.

Stamp it anyway and you can run a regular flash hider.

Really? Hmmmm....

Does anyone happen to have a 98-01 dated 14.5" Colt barrel lying around they'd part with?  I don't need anything except the barrel and original FSB with pins.  The more used/abused the better.  I have these parts that are all late 90's that need a home.

Nice late Block 1. My late Block 1 is going to be almost exactly like that.

I guess I've just been lucky until now. I figured it might take some time with all of the factors against me right now. COVID, international shipping, Canadian defense contractor. But damn it hasn't moved from pending in a while!

I will tomorrow. If it hasn't left yet, I was thinking of adding on their flash hider/suppressor collar mount.

Just spoke with Cadex. First of all, those folks are so nice, like Canadian cliche nice. I also asked about the flash hider with suppressor collar mount and they said their suppressors are designed from the Allen Engineering model, but not exact. No guarantee that it will mount or safely run any can but theirs. Just FYI in case anyone was planning on running one of those for any build and expects crossover. The guy I spoke to actually said that's why they don't post specs because they don't want the liability in case someone attempts it.

Cadex' warehouse just called me back with my order update and I have some good news and bad. They no longer make that rail extension as a stocked product and can't make just one. So we cancelled my order. He did give me some hope in that they WILL produce them if a 10-15 minimum order quantity is met.

My question is: who would be willing to jump in on a group buy? Honestly, I'm tempted to save pennies and order 10 myself and sell them off if not enough people are interested in a group buy.

How much were they going for? I might be interested if I don’t make this upper into a 10.3”

Rail is $234.95, but with tax and shipping it was $277.23.

I would be down for however y'all want to do it. Everyone orders separately, I place one big order, whatever. I just want one.

An "in the wild" question: Has there ever been an early Block II (with RAS) or 1.5PR that had a LPVO?

Never seen during the time of the Block I.  Block I's all had KAC NT4 FH and KAC suppressors.  Now if you consider that a Big Army M4A1 MWS is basically a Block I.  Last year I have add a SF 4 prong to a M4A1 as that guy was attached to a SF ODA that issued him an extra suppressor while doing mission with the team.  When he left, I replace the FH back to his A2.

When I eventually get around to building my block 1 it will have a sf muzzle device as all my other builds have them. Not sure if I am going with a closed tinned or open tinned. The close tinned looks like an extended a2.

I do not have one.  I have 2 Warcomps.  But I really like those CT SF Flash Hiders.  Maybe cause they are seen on USAFSOC M4's most of the time.  I may have a CT Warcomp one day.

Well dudes, I was severely underquoted on the minimum order quantity when I spoke to Cadex over the phone. I was told 10-15, but this email I just got says 200 so unless there is a HUGE surge in demand, I don't see a group buy coming anytime soon.

Decided to part the block 1 out and build a block 2 with some spare parts laying around. Nice to put my Savannah rail to use. Now I just need the correct optics and light.

In the meantime, are there any block2’s out in the wild with M2 and older surefire lights?

btw, lighter FDE color RIS II's FTW

Word! I guess I’ll run it in the meantime while I gather up some funds to get a new updated optic for this upper.

I figured this would be the best place to ask. Does anyone know what would be the most correct m203 leaf sight for socom m4a1s? Are there different ones for different time periods etc?

Pic of rifle it will be going on.

There is a special leaf sight variation that was issued in SOPMOD kits that mounted in the threaded holes on the RIS/RAS.

A 'C' clip goes on the bottom of the screw to retain it.

See paragraph 2 in the SOPMOD RIS manual shown below.

Although the manual addresses video accessories they used them for tactical accessories as well. I have the SOPMOD leaf sight and I also have a bipod mount.

There is a third accessory that mounts in the holes but what it is escapes my memory at the moment.

Thanks. It’s going to look even better with a M203 mounted.
