The amount of awesome in that picture is beyond words

For sure but it needs less PRS stock and moar SOPMOD.

I agree, ironicly SOPMOD's were what I was looking for. I still have an old black gen 1, and considering a 2nd Gen FDE.

I've got two FDE Gen II SOPMODs and won't consider running anything else.

Oh I love my Black one, currently have a KAC Swivel on it, but I think I really want an FDE more. I haven't seen too many in the "wild" though.

I was just about to say if not a SOPMOD then the oldschool M4 stock would be my choice.  They just look... cool.

Anyone run one on their Block II?

Doesn't feel quite right on a Block II for me... especially with a SOCOM barrel and all that crap hanging off of it.

If not standard the PRI M84 Gasbuster and the Crane "SOPMOD extended latch" are issued as Crane "Program" parts, or at least show up on Crane PowerPoints.

A lot of units have bought various different kinds of extended latches like the Badger tac-latch - not to mention individual users with their own preferences and can buy whatever charging handle or latch they choose.

"Correct charging handle" is like "correct stock."  Too easy for the enduser to change, plenty of "program" options, and too much variability to get into a palsy over.

A very important piece came in for my Block II clone... but since I don't have a Block II upper (yet) I had to put it on my Mk18 Mod 1 Upper as a placeholder. I am really digging this thing so far! Its unfortunate there are no more available, I can understand why people like these things so much!!!

$555 shipped a good price for a brand new EOtech 553 Tan?

I was gonna throw an aimpoint pro w/larue mount on a 14 1/2 M4 AR I have, but since its rocking a sopmod and KAC RAS I may pick up the EOtech and replace my SF scout with a M3X.

I bought my tan su231 marked 553 for $500 shipped 2 years ago. I saw one in the EE for $500 a day ago

So if I was in the special forces and had one of these issued to me... What lower receiver would I find on the gun? COLT? I'm building one from scratch and I would like to get as close to issue as possible.

Colt for sure.  I heard somewhere, but can't verify, that LMT was providing complete Mk18 rifles, but as far as the M4 goes, it's gonna be a Colt.  FN made some M16's once, and I know Sabre got an M16 contract but I'm not sure if they delivered on that before they got raided and shut down by the feds.

Close as possible would probably be 6920 SOCOM and pull the barrel and buy a 14 1/2" colt SOCOM barrel off the EE or SAW, add the required block 2 parts and you would have pretty damn close clone.

Definitely true. 16" M4 profile on my old Block II threw off the balance.

Thanks for the info on the lowers. I was considering tracking down a COLT lower but I guess it doesn't really matter as I'm not really doing a 100% true Block II build.

So far here is my parts list for my upper:

Daniel Defense II M4-A1RIS II FSP rail system
DD upper receiver
DD CHF 16 inch M4 style w/ A2 FSB
DD BCG
DD A1.5 rear sight
BCM/VLTOR Gunfighter charging handle, Mod3 (already had it laying around)

I decided to go with the FSP rail over the standard M4-A1 simply because I about choked when I saw the cost of the Knights front and rear flip sights! That and I already had the Daniel Defense A1.5 rear sight sitting here.

For the lower, I haven't decided what to do BUT I do not like SOPMOD stocks. I already have a Smith and Wesson lower pre-built with a full Daniel Defense LPK, a Magpul CTR and a Magpul Miad. Might just keep that for now.

This question has been in my head for a while and I just had to ask. Is the M4A1 ever slated to be replaced by the SCAR once the 5.56 conversion kit rolls out?

17s were never ment to replace M4s. They still get lots of play though.

Oh I see. I just thought if the 5.56 conversion kits rolled out that that they might just use the 17S. Thanks for the clarification.

Definitely still thinking about getting a SCAR though...

I prefer the Ar platform over the SCAR platform in general.  For no other reason then the AR feels more at home in my hands and I tend to be quicker and more accurate with the AR.

don't worry, she will go from looking "darn good" to "sexy as hell" as soon as she is gone and in the hands of another man.

Looks great, even the black Elcan looks badass.

How do you like that surefire? I'm about to get another light and can't really decide between another M3X or a surefire like yours

Thanks. It'd be cool to have a FDE Elcan, but I'm more than happy with the black one.

I love the M600C light. It's super bright and has great throw. I flirted with getting an Insight to keep with the clone status, but I have a hard time leaving SureFire lights, especially the Scout series. I also like the SureFire switches better––in particular the SR0X series––as the Insight ones seem gaudy. If I could tuck an Insight switch in a TangoDown grip I might try one someday, perhaps on an "enhanced" (i.e., 1.5-esque) Mk18.
