A little test. Just dipping my toe into the "potentially painting the CQBR" waters...

The Colt's were cheaper a while back and I missed out at that time so I've been waiting to strike if they came up again at a good price. There might be a better deal down the road but I wasn't going to take the chance.  Rip the band-aid off and be done with it, I say.

Since I had the credit card out I also threw a Brownell's/Nodak Spud M16A1 lower in the cart for the Mk12 Mod0 that has needed something other than the Spike's placeholder which has been on there for way too long.

Four is three, three is two, something something...

That's pretty much what I was thinking. I've been waiting for them to drop to the $250ish range ever since the big sale last Nov/Dec when they were $199.

URG-I 10.3 is the one I am most excited for. Pics of it keep popping up on the interwebs lately. I'll probably wait until you can get the rails separately though unless there are any proprietary parts specific to the complete uppers.

I also think that the URG-I 10.3 will be available at some point.  Of course the story is that it may not be available to civilians but that just seems like marketing.

Noveske N4 10.5"; but gracious sakes, don't make the same mistake I did ;p.

Doing it over, I'd run either a DD 10.3" with the proper FSB (obviously not the fucktarded proprietary FSB from DD), a Colt 10.3", or BA 10.3" from Andro Corp. As to what I'll replace the Noveske 10.5 with once it's shot out, that really depends. Hopefully I can pick up a factory Colt 10.3" between now and then, or maybe I'll get one chopped. I might end up getting a BA 10.3 just to try it. Considering I'll be needing to replace the DD 10.3 in my CQBR in the not so distant future - and since I shoot a lot of steel case - going with a less expensive barrel might make sense. It'd be nice to have an idea how they perform.

Of course, if I'm able to get my hands on some factory Colt 10.3s, then I'll go that route for both come replacement time.

^^Colt 10.3/10.4 here.
I have one 10.5 fn barrel
I've been seeing a lot of ppl post their adco chop was closer to 10.45. I suspect this has something to do with the suppressor the original intends to use as some require more room. It's really not that expensive to find a colt barrel on the EE and send it in. Plus you'll sleep better.

Mine started as a factory BCM 11.5 and was chopped by adco to 10.3.  I already had the upper, if I were starting from scratch I would find a 6920 or 6920 oem1 upper and have that chopped.

[Last Edit: tanodized] [#17]
I've found many of the newer production 6920 barrels are not 'O' stamped near the chamber. For that reason, I only chop down original 14.5" Colt M4 barrels just as Crane would. And yes, I am that autistic concerning those details. Here's an example of my favorite CQBR setup with barrel modifications performed by ADCO.

Colt/FN M4A1 CQBR: 10.3" Govt. Barrel w/ Badger Ordnance Mk12 Gas Block, Daniel Defense Mk18 RIS II, EOTech SU-231, Insight ATPIAL-C, WMX200 & Dual Pressure Switch, Colt N1 Stock, CQD Forward & Rear Sling Mount, PRI Gas Buster Charging Handle, Surefire SF4P Flash Hider & SOCOM556-RC Suppressor

I know AU has been a salty subject but I saw they had some SF SB's. How far off are those really from the RC? I read that the baffles were bored out a little more but is that all? Kind of tempting for the price TBH and since I missed out on cheap RC's.

No NSN kind of kills it, Not bad for a backup can though. Guess I'll wait for a deal on a FDE NT4 and look around for an RC. Thanks for the info.

Best option besides RC IMO.

I think the RC2 front end difference is much more noticeable than no NSN.

Same.  ADCO chopped RO921 14.5” barrel to 10.3”.  I’ve also got an ADCO chopped RO921HB to 10.3” that I use in one of my CQBR’s.  They do excellent work.

Yeah, it sucks :|.

Remove price from the equation and I kinda prefer the NT4 to the RC. Not saying I wouldn't have an RC as well, but I'd probably be waiting on an NT4 right now if they weren't literally twice as expensive. I mean, for fuck sake... $1700+ with a stamp for a suppressor?

That’s a huge bummer about the NT4. I don’t think it uses any high tech materials or manufacturing processes, but it’s more expensive than any other 5.56 can I know of. I think they should be priced more like an AEM5.

As much KAC as I have I should get the NT4. Just hard to swallow when 1500-1900 can get me going better toward NODS. Going to hunt around for an RC in local shops and see if I can find one, still beating myself up for not jumping at that AU deal.

That's at least a little better than $1500 + stamp + transfer or potentially tax if you buy locally, heh.

I have $1075 into my RC with the stamp and transfer (bought when they were $825, unfortunately). So, it wasn't cheap by any means... but tacking on another $700 to that is pretty painful.

ETA: My check was cashed 11/28, and nfatracker is showing forms returning from as late as 11/20 cash dates. Hopefully soon :D.

Yeah I feel ya bro. I think I could get an AEM5 and RC for the price of the NT4 with transfer.

I was very fortunate to have paid $995 total (including stamp and $100 transfer fee) on my RC, so hard to want to pony up $1450 + $200 + 100 for me for an NT4, but I think I'll never be satisfied without having one on my Mk 18 when it's finished. I'll run the RC on it in the meantime.

Yeah, that's a nice post-41f present.

They charge $50 for an individual and $100 for a trust.

But, I would pay close to the same for sales tax, so it doesn't make a big difference to me in the long run I guess, as my NFA store has a pretty small selection, so whatever higher grade items I want are never in stock.

Stick with the two tone replacement upper look. Mine has really grown on me.

Got a sweet deal on a 553/su231. Got it locally through armslist. It was face to face so I wasn't worried. $400. Inspection was nov 2014 and I believe these were discontinued in December 2014. It had a little paint on it, but it came off easy. Now to ship it to Carolina laser works.

Eta- that's some strange anodizing. The top pic, the base appears dark. In The bottom pic, the base appears to be lighter. Lighting plays a big role on the color variation.

I managed to squeeze the range in between some thunderstorms today.  Took the Mk18 out as well as the Colt 6945.  I committed a cardinal sin in replacing the A2 with a Griffin single port brake.  I had it laying around and figured “why not”.  Sacrificial baffle and all that.  Capped off a couple rounds without the M4SDK on and damn!  Forgot how loud a 10.3” with a brake is.  As I only had plugs in the can went on pronto!

Eta- that's some strange anodizing. The top pic, the base appears dark. In The bottom pic, the base appears to be lighter. Lighting plays a big role on the color variation.

Yeah, the two-tone look is kinda growing on me as well. In fact, I haven't swapped 'em back yet. Of course, I haven't actually gone so far as to paint my Colt lower, either ;p.

Well, I probably wouldn't do that anyway until I get the Form 1 engraving done. Once it's approved and engraved, then all bets are off :D.

The Mod 0 and 3/4 has some reverse two-tone action going on, too:

They charge $50 for an individual and $100 for a trust.

But, I would pay close to the same for sales tax, so it doesn't make a big difference to me in the long run I guess, as my NFA store has a pretty small selection, so whatever higher grade items I want are never in stock.

Dang. I’ve gotta pay $25 for NFA, $10 for everything else

I've read this opinion before, it seems preferred between the two.
Is there a can that even makes the MK18 hearing safe?  Or perhaps a better question is which can makes the MK18 the quietest?
I know that the clone correct suppressors weren't necessarily chosen because of noise performance, at least not completely.

Yup.  Burnproof gear.  I wanted to try something different for “rail covers”.  I like it.  It does keep my hand nice and cool if I heat the rifle up and it’s comfortable.
