From surefires website
"The SOCOM556-RC is constructed from advanced US mill-certified high-temperature alloys and heat-treated stainless steel, and features a tough, corrosion-resistant Ionbond coating on the Fast-Attach® lock ring and Cerakote™ ceramic finish on the suppressor body, in either Black or Dark Earth color."

I believe a lot of them had Geiselle select fire trigger (SSF?), so the SSA is an acceptable compromise. Also there are numerous places for lowers. The EE here, gunbroker, take off a 6920, etc..

Thanks man. I'll admit, it didn't turn out as I wanted it to.
The anodizing was done by customardustcovers.com
Has a greyish tint to it. Currenrly working on a lower for the block 1. Turning out better so far.

From where I'm sitting it looks pretty good; but, I can't see every little detail, either. I see what you mean about it being a touch on the gray side, but it doesn't look bad at all.

I'd take the slightly too gray color over some of the black anodizing I've seen on some 80% lowers that is a bit too shiny or otherwise looks "off."

My Docter Optic cover came in from Slovenia today. Despite the pictures on the shop's site that showed a cover with the DOCTER logo, I instead get another one that has the new name NOBLEX on it! I give up.

It was for my SU230:

I'm probably going to post the Noblexes on the EE in case someone is looking for a new cover.

Does Surefire do the re-coring of only the SOCOM RC.....or the RC2 also (?)...….and what about the SB (?).

On the first baffle wear......anyone have any photos of wear using the SOCOM SB (with slightly larger bore)…..and possible a comparison of 4-prong vs. SFMB when using the SOCOM SB (?).

I always kinda thought of the SA safety as someone taking a big bite of a hotdog, and the FA safety is someone just taking a small bite - just nibblin' on the weiner, lol. The bar looks like a hotdog to me on both :\.

Either way, that's not a big bite hotdog ;p.

When you find out the system is inheritley flawed and smashes itself apart you would. The cam pin in my bcg cut through the type 3 hardcoat anodizing in under 10k rounds. Crane has changed the service regiment on them to reflect this happening and last time I talked to the dudes fixing the guys behind the fence's guns they were replacing uppers every 15k rounds or so.

Unfortunately, I didn't have any pictures suitable for use prior to 700rds, including my photo of the baffle when new; but here is a full animation of erosion from 700 to current. Had I known I'd eventually want to animate it, I would've taken pictures in a more consistent manner (same height, same baffle orientation, same angle, etc.). It would've made it a lot easier to see the gradual changes if the transitions were smoother (especially on some of the earlier photos).

Oh well, kinda interesting none the less. I think I'll probably continue adding to it; be kinda nifty to have a full timeline of erosion up to re-core.

that's on the HK 10.4? Interesting but I guess not that surprising knowing the gun feels more violent due to the piston and overgassed system? Legitimately curious... im over here still lusting for an HK416 clone being "poor" with a MK18 Mod 0 and SCAR-16 SBR....

Do you mean it was eating through the receiver itself? Eating through the hard coat ano is a non issue. Even ARs do that.

But I get the feeling you mean through the aluminum as well

Yup. Mine was literally cutting a nice straight groove into my upper. As I said, USASOC is deadlining 10.4 416s every 15k rounds or so last I heard. Now of course with full auto fire, a suppressor, and a short barrel this problem is made worse, but still.

Not sure if I should be depressed from this, because my Brownells 416 upper just got here, or relieved to know before I spend more on it.

Working on a 416 build.   Of the issue suppressors, 212 or RC the better to use?    Or perhaps the SB, seems like minimal back pressure is key.  Or any other can that has less back pressure than the surefires?

Kinda curious, since you have both an RC and NT4, how does the NT4 compare to the RC when it comes to back pressure? People always seem to discuss the slight difference in weight or the different tone of an NT4, but I don't recall anyone ever mentioning how they compare with back pressure.

Don't recall back pressure being mentioned in that video, but it's been awhile. Kinda figured that would be the case, but I haven't really seen that aspect discussed in much detail.

Oh, well... probably going to get one regardless. But, that doesn't mean I don't occasionally question whether I should just get another SF and save $650 or so, heh.

My ATPIAL was full power and my MAWL is a C1+ and I still like my MAWL more. The only real noticable difference in performance is when trying to use the illuminator at extended ranges. The MAWL's ergonomics, build quality, and form factor are just better.
