I’ve got a gen Juan lmt on my mk18. I did purchase a b5sopmod in coyote from botach, just to have a spare. It was $50 with free ship. I see they are $59.95 there now. What’s the difference between the b5 at botach and the one at brownells?

The one botach sells is a gen 2 SOPMOD with QD socket. Brownells is gen 1 (as issued)

To be fair, PA rarely has amazing prices. During BF, there were several places selling sub-$425 (LAPG had them at $412, Eotech direct had them at $400 something or $369 with ExpertVoice discount, etc.). That said, you aren't likely to find those sort of prices any day of the week.

65 MOA, or 68? Not sure what that is, actually... I'm no expert on these things.  When I was in, we had iron sights on our A2s.  Optics were mythical.

Also, 1 MOA dot, or 2 1 MOA dots?

Thanks!

Finally placed an order. The sale lasts for another day and a few hours.

Everything I’ve read says that either Eotech has fixed their issues, or their issues are unfixable and they will always be garbage.

But, if they’re being used currently by high speed guys, I expect that ‘lil ole low speed, high drag me should be okay with it.

The above specs differ slightly from a factory Colt or DD 10.3". Having never taken measurements off a Crane cut barrel, I can't say for absolute certain, but it would appear Crane uses slightly different specs. I took a caliper and measured my DD and Colt 10.3" barrels, and it appears they are cut to the same specs. Here are the measurements I have:

Factory DD 10.3": 10.75" OAL, 10.34375" or 10.345" from bolt face*, 2.85" from shoulder to muzzle, .625" thread length

Factory Colt 10.3": 10.75" OAL, 2.85" from the shoulder to muzzle, .625" thread length

*Note: I only measured the DD 10.3" from the bolt face, as the Colt isn't assembled. Based on the OAL and the thread length appearing to match, I think it's reasonably safe to assume the Colt length from the bolt face is the same as well (given acceptable tolerances). It's worth noting that I'm not really equipped to take an extremely precise measurement of the length from the bolt face - I simply dropped a cleaning rod in and taped it off even with the muzzle, then measured. That gave me 10.34375" on two measuring tapes or 10.345" measured on a ruler to 10" and a caliper for the remainder. Either way, it's pretty close to accurate.

I've gone from a zero set at 30-40 degrees to an inside temp of 80+ degrees back to 30 degrees, as well as from a zero set at 100+ degrees to 65 degrees indoors back to 115+ degrees without any noticeable zero shift. So, I don't really find it to be a problem. Unless you go from the desert to the artic, it's probably never going to be an issue.

Measure two new barrels.  Crane cut down Colt and a FN SOCOM.  Dimensions are the same

OAL 10.75"
Barrel length 10.35" (was just short of 10 3/8")
Shoulder to Muzzle 2.85"
Thread length .625"

Barrel length measure with bolt locked and cleaning rod down bore.

Good to know. Based on that spec drawing I'd always assumed factory Colt and Crane differed slightly, but it appears they're the same.

The DD I measured was right on the line of 10 11/32" or 10.34375" on a tape, which I would guess is within tolerances. I'll have another DD 10.3" arriving today, so I'll give it a measure just out of curiosity.

Yes, just needs a bit for the set screw to bite.  Never had either one back out.  Yes, as that is how I built a Mk18 Mod 0 upper couple months ago.

Yes, that is the intent.  Crane was taking Colt 14.5" Gov't profile barrels, removing FSB, handguard retainer and barrel nut.  Then cut down, rethread and dimple barrel.  Barrel is then used with a low profile gas block with the DD Mk18 RIS II.

Quick update on the status of my replacement KAC RIS rail from Knight's. Here's what Kay in returns/exchanges said:

"Right now the replacement on the RIS Rail is not going to be quick, the only ones that were in stock are the ones that were wrong, so it has to go thru production to have some more made. We will know more about the ETA at a later date."

I guess I got a lot of the clone stuff out of the way before the prices went crazy. For both of my 4 prongs I paid $150 and $175.

2. Going to have them open up the gas port to .070".

Well, here she is (middle)... ended up with almost an exact duplicate of the previous one, lol.

New one on top:

The new one is a tad lighter, but I think they'd probably be pretty close to the same shade after some handling. Both this latest URG and the previous one had an inspection date of 12/20/18.

Flash definitely is bringing out more bronze in the above pic than you see in normal light.

Gonna sell one of them. Haven't decided yet if I want to sell the newest one or my old one. At the moment, I'm kinda leaning toward keeping my old one and selling this new one. I do really like this color, but I don't know that I want to have nearly the exact same rail on both my CQBRs. I also kinda like the "patina" on my older rail; it might be dark, but it's nicely worn and polished. I dunno, I'll have to look at this new one in the daylight tomorrow and try to decide.

Same as my older one: Mk18 RIS II P/N 01-004-8020 and the NSN, along with patent, CAGE, and Daniel Defense INC Black Creek, GA on the opposite side.

After 1174 pages of reading, I finally registered. This thread is the reason I am a part of this forum. I wanted my first post to be here.

I currently am putting together a MK18 MOD 0 clone, am looking forward to sharing it here once it is finished. Thanks to everyone who posts knowledge here.

Combat_Diver- you rock and your information has been inspiring. Thanks a ton!
