Looks like the insert and the kit to install is $50. The lazy way out is the gas tube ported for desired size is also $50. Not sure which way to go. Brand new crane spec .070 barrel with FSP is $160

8-32 tap

Drill the center of a set screw with the #50 bit. Drill and tap the FSB gas channel with the 9/64" bit and 8-32 tap. Insert the drilled set screw and tighten flush. Viola, gas port insert.

Oh, and you'll probably need to drill the hole between the sling tabs on the bottom of the FSB to make room for the tap using an 11/64" or 3/16" bit.

Makes sense. I will give it a try to save some bucks. I hate removing and installing FSP. Always a pain, but I do like the accuracy the barrel has provided. I will let you guys know what I end up doing. Thanks for the info

Keep the T1 man.

I know I’ve got hate for Eotech based on personal experience, but T1’s are legit too.

I actually just posted in the optics forum to ask if Eotechs are still trash or if the new ones are good to go.

Gotcha. I use a T1 at work, and a T2 on my personal rifle. I want a T2 for my work gun too, gonna look at the COMP M5 as well.

Nah, a cordless drill and manual tap are all you need.

Not bad. Not that being 100% perp on this job is very critical, hand drill and tap should do.

You need 203 cuts in your hand guard retainer tho.

The hole between the sling tabs actually acts as a jig more or less when drilling the gas channel. So, it'd be pretty difficult to not drill it reasonably straight - the Dremel Guy at Colt might even be able to do it, lol.

And, if the dark day ever comes that rigging an M203 to a 10.3" and launching chalk at people is my only option, I'm gonna feel pretty silly not having those M203 cuts, that's for sure :\.

A lot. I am guessing 5,000 all suppressed and ran hard. I had to use vise grips to get it out of the FSP. I am replacing barrel with a crane spec from Andro Corp. from the get go this needed a smaller gas port and the problems just grew from there. According to Aero, it came with a .078 gas port and by now, who knows. I would be fine just doing the BRT insert and replacing gas tube. Barrel is still perfectly fine and dead on accurate. I have been eyeing that crane spec barrel and now is the time

^speaking of too clean....has anyone come up with a decent way to clean the Surefire muzzle devices, or prevent(in advance)all the carbon buildup on the mounts?

I’m tired of my RC getting stuck on at the range I barely shoot it, or my cqbr anymore.  Such a PITA.  Without the can the brake is annoying, with the can I have to deal with it afterwards as it’s always getting stuck.

I should mention I’m usually doing full auto mag dumps with it...so I’m talking about lots of carbon build up, and SERIOUSLY getting stuck

My Sig cans gets stuck. I got the suppressor wrench because it was such a pain. You can try grease on the lip of the can or on the muzzle device itself. There is no way of preventing carbon build up. The DI system with a can is going to dirty. To clean, you can soak in hopes or simple green and scrub. Heat plus carbon then cooling acts like a cement at times. The AAC is the only can I have that doesn’t get stuck.

^same, my aac can has never gotten stuck.

I was wondering about a high temp grease coating on the mount, maybe the carbon would just wipe away....

Thought maybe someone had tried it.

Greasing the threads on the mount helped with my Sigs. Not tremendously, but a little noticeable.

The best solution I've found is to just give it a quick scrape regularly with a ceramic knife and some solvent - every 500-1000rds. There is also the SF carbon scraping tool that might be a bit faster, but just using a knife takes about 5 minutes (if you want to be reasonably thorough). I sometimes use Loctite LB 8008 copper-based anti-seize on the MD (which is rated to 1800F); it helps to some degree, but as far as carbon wiping right off, no such luck.

ETA: I mostly use the anti-seize when I already have some carbon build-up but don't really feel like scraping it. Adding it to a mostly clean MD won't really stop carbon from sticking, but it will usually let you get away with a bit more time between scrapings.
