If a Dbal is wrong, I’m not sure I want to be right. Couldn’t justify the ATPIAL-C’s lack of performance for my night antics

Let me walk on down to the LA5 store real quick . I watched tacswap and eBay for months and months. Most PEQ’s are hot with scratched off serial numbers. The ones that are actually police surplus are all beat to shit. So either stolen government property or POS. I’m not one of the cool guys who happens to have an in on legal full powered peq’s

My guess is no warranty. L3 only warranties their civilian versions for 1 year anyway.

Black Phase Tactical can get you brand new full power PEQ's for a lot less than Wills Optics. I bought one about a year ago and it's brand new never been mounted.

Go to Office Max or similar and buy a good size white posterboard or foam board. Then it's just a matter of lighting and Photoshop - using something to lift the gun off the surface helps with shadows as well. I use a couple of white vitamin bottles.

For lighting, a good overcast day works nicely to provide even neutral light and then crank up your exposure (it's generally easier to darken a photo than to lighten a photo in post). You can even get away with doing it on a sunny day and sometimes that can even look better, but you'll usually need more Photoshop correction.

It's that time again... you might think, is he talking about Christmas Eve, Santas on his way? Why, no... it's RC cleanout picture time! A special time, also known as everybody poops (including suppressors) or when cans have to go to the can. Merry Christmas mofos :D.

And remember, the CQBR family that shoots out carbon sludge together stays together...

The starting weight on the RC was 19.85oz - well surpassing my previous record of 19.64oz. I figured since I was tearing down the RC host for a barrel swap and cleaning anyway, it'd only make sense to get the RC back down to fighting weight. Here is what it looked like after a 48 hour CLR soak and probably 24+ hours of ultrasonic (about half of that in vinegar and half in Simple Green). The wet weight after all the soaking and ultrasonic was 19.36oz.

The blast chamber hasn't been this clean since it was new:

All the same, here is what came gurgling up after the first shot:

First shot - carbon sludge defense weapon:

After a quick bore snake to clear out the sludge backblast, on to round two:

Round three:

Eventually, it was just blowing out puffs of whitish smoke:

The final weight was 18.37oz, and I have no doubt I can get more out. I think I might hit it again with CLR and ultrasonic just to see how close I can get it to the stock weight. Previously I was able to get it down to 18.02oz and if possible, I'd like to try to get it below that this time around.

Otherwise, the new barrel was shooting great... had a slight scare when my EXPS wouldn't turn on and the slightly used spare battery I had turned out to be dead as well... but 3rd time was the charm and it was good to go. It was cold, threatening to rain and getting late, so I didn't want to mess with zeroing. Luckily, despite removing the EXPS for cleaning and using it for aligning the RIS II - not to mention swapping the barrel - the zero was almost dead on. It's very possible I won't even need to adjust it... must be the miracle of Christmas ;D.

Well, I rock a D2 but didn’t know you could source non-hot PEQs. Steep at wills optics, how much less you bro’s source from black phase if you don’t mind me asking? Great content as always.

I say just get a dbal. It does the same stuff. Do you really need the distance that you get from the LA5 considering you’re typically shooting something in close. If you got the money awesome but I don’t see anything wrong with using a dbal, just like I think it’s fine to use a 3 prong or warcomp or even a non Surefire device. Sure someone will be all autistic Greta thrunberg and say how dare you post something or clone correct but whatever.

It’s crazy few months back planned on putting in a req for a La5. Everyone got all butt hurt and said “you shouldn’t, you can’t, get a dbal/mawl/atpial-c” they get so stuck in the mind set of saying not allowed. Ordered one anyway and couldn’t be happier. So if they are available to civilians I would say go for it. I wanted some juice with a touch of nostalgia and style.  From what I hear Will has some good units time to time

Sweet.

I spent 7 years working on, designing, building, and fielding he PTDS systems (mechanical engineer). Over 2 of those years working OCONUS in direct support roles in RC-W and RC-S OEF. When you have a dedicated crew running the site/system it’s an awesome tool for our local door-kickers and QRF.

Unfortunately my company, the one that actually designed/developed/tested/fielded the 74k PTDS systems was pushed out and the whole program went to whatever lowest bidder about 3 years ago. I heard the contract just changed hands again because the previous company sucked balls and underperformed. So get ready for even worse performance . Why on earth you wouldn’t want the actual inventing engineers and designers of the system to serve your program and have sites managed by crews that literally staffed the original sites in Iraq a decade ago... I’ll never know. Thanks Obama.

Pro-Tip2: Don’t peck an IR fight with the balloon. Their IR illuminator and designators are more powerful than your whole squads PEQs combined. LOL.

Strong enough that when it paints itself, you can look at the IR camera and see a quarter-sized spot heating-up on your fabric. I know... I seen’t It!
