Testin' dat SMP842 (M855A1 powder).
I like it so far. Not 100% confirmed, but it seems like it might be a bit less temp sensitive than WC844. In any case, the range between functional and pressure signs is definitely much broader than my current 844, that's for sure. Accuracy was decent although not quite as good as my best node with 844 (1.6moa vs. 1moa). Gonna need to do more testing regardless, but not too worried about the accuracy; it was pretty windy and I think I was a little off my game. There are at least two charge weights that I'm betting will tighten up on retesting.  |

The only downside to surplus/pulldown powder is having to start from scratch and work up a new load for each lot--you can't just use data from a manual and assume it'll be good. That isn't a big deal to me since I buy 32lbs at a time and the savings is entirely worth the minor hassle of doing a ladder every 10k or so (no way I could load for 13-14 CPR with commercial powder). But, yeah... for that reason alone, buying in bulk is about the only way it makes sense. Doing a ladder every 8lbs or whatever would be a pain in the ass (not to mention wasting a bunch of components and time). |

Updated family pic since the .300 SPS came in. First shots through it brought a smile to me and my dads face. Didn’t realize how quiet it makes .308. Gotta get some more now haha

Hey guys. New to this thread. I’m thinking strongly about starting a MK18 Block II build. Kevin over at High caliber sales has done right by me with a MK12 build in the past and saw he does the uppers for the MK18 as well, so my initial thought is to let him handle more business for me. I did notice a statement on his website regarding the DD rail. He’s stating that DD isn’t making the MK18 RIS anymore, but I jumped over to their website and it appears to be in stock, but no other site has stock, so I wondered if you good folks had any idea as to whether or not they have discontinued it or not. I’ve done the clone thing in the past as I have a MK13 Mod 5 and a MK12 Mod 1, so I’m excited to learn more about this platform as well. It’ll be my first SBR. Thanks for the help and advice!

I had Kevin build my MK12 mod 1 upper late last year and it came through perfectly. I’ve also used him for suppressor sales a couple times now, so he’s done right by me. I did see the 10.5” LMT barrel. I understand that a colt barrel is clone correct. Are there any other variations in the barrel. In theory I guess I could piece it together myself and have my local smith take care of the build. The only question there would be what’s the benefit? Does it save money to put towards that expensive knights suppressor. I could see the upside there. Any thoughts or advice? |

It depends on how correct you want to be but the issued barrel is a Colt M4 barrel cut to 10.3" and dimpled for the Mk12 gas block or an FN 10.3" heavy barrel (found on newer CQBRs). Upper receiver is anything USGI so older issued Colt, FN, etc. Older URG would have an M4QD, newer would have a SureFire 4 prong. You could but a Colt 6920 URG, DD or Badger Mk12 gas block, DD Mk18 RIS II, muzzle device of choice, have Compass Lake Engineering cut the barrel down, and have a really good base for a clone. The only way you wouldn't save money is if you were paying a lot for shipping from various places. However, even if it is the same price or more, you'll get a better clone than you could buy already made from anywhere else. |
