I wouldn't pay it for either as the 3 prong can be found for under $100 and KAC NT4 for around the same

Not to stir the pot but whats the point in building a clone if you don't intend on building a clone? Just about every part that makes a MK18 a "MK18" has been surpassed by new tech. My clone Nazi days are pretty much behind me but I don't see the purpose of wanting to be part of a clone group/thread/whatever just to blatantly steer in a different direction. For the money these clones cost, you could easily build something that is more durable, incorporates the latest proven technology, and costs substantially less. Part of what makes cloning so rewarding is the difficulty (both with parts scarcity and high cost) involved in amassing the correct parts .

Just last night I was IM'ing someone here about how after I had purchased my SF4P, I was so wound up over the cost that I refused to ever look at the old EE ad (and eventually forced myself to forget the price I paid). Whatever the cost, it was a tough pill to swallow but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

$300.00 is still stupid for a SF4P. Some people have more money than sense. $300~500.00 is a super limited market. Only a few people are that stupid.

I REALLY want a 4P but I'm just going to go 3P because you can get them for sub $100.00.

I mean, you can either pay to play, or wait and find a good deal.  that's all part of the fun in cloning and finding the more difficult to come by pieces.

I agree 500 is stupidly high to pay for a 4 prong, but there are some people that can literally just throw away 500 dollars and not be phased.

I am not one of those people and have been guilty of paying 300 for one.

I have also bought three other ones for under 120 each shipped.

With all due respect you can build a "Clone" with different parts and come out ahead price wise.  I am using a BA barrel and will probably use an MRO for optic and a Recce 5 for suppressor.  Will I be shamed if I don't use completely correct parts and shunned?  Thing of it is everyone says well that part isn't correct or that optic isn't right.  You do know that different units and individuals setup their rifle however they want.  So would you say one SF member is wrong if they use a different setup than one listed in the list?  I can build a "Clone" with  parts that are just as good if not better than original ones for cheaper and still have my "Clone".  To each their own I suppose..

And paying 400-500 for a flash hider is stupid.  What does the 4 prong do that the 3 prong cant do?  Will it make you a better shooter?  Will it completely hide muzzle flash that much better than a 3 prong that the cost justifies the means?

What does a CQBR do for you that some other 10.3" gun can't? You seem to confuse cloning, with practicality. Nothing in this thread is that practical or you can't do for cheaper, but that's not the intent of this thread.

I'm not going to say a SF person is wrong, but until I see another suppressor besides SF or KAC on a CQBR it's a moot point.

According to SureFire, functionally speaking, the 3P is "superior" to the 4P.

Isn't there a problem with the 3Ps lining up properly with the blast baffle?

No go on the 3 Prong? I thought they wound up being ok...

Somewhat related, I have a PEQ-15 if anyone isn't happy with their ATPIAL-C

I thought it was just speculation that the 4Ps "aligned" with the baffles for less premature wear. I don't recall this ever being confirmed by SureFire, or any other more "official" channels, to my recollection.

The 3P has been stated to be stronger, and suppress flash better, though.

And paying 400-500 for a flash hider is stupid.  What does the 4 prong do that the 3 prong cant do?  Will it make you a better shooter?  Will it completely hide muzzle flash that much better than a 3 prong that the cost justifies the means?

I don't think this thread was ever 100% about everyone building mirror images (or as legally close as possible) of NSW Crane CQBRs. If you skim though the thread, you'll notice a very strong subplot where people analyze "in the wild" pics and discuss what variations/additions/deletions have been made to the platform. The rule (and I use that term loosely) is, if it's being run in the wild, it's kosher. I've had a great time rooting for certain parts (the Norgon ambi mag release comes to mind) and sifting through various SOF threads in order to validate them. Cool thing is, with the amount of leeway some units get with what modifications they're allowed to make, there's a substantial list of non-Crane parts and accessories that are viewed as legit (as far as clone threads go).

This is how I understand it as well. A few of us took pics of the inside of our SOCOMs and they all lined up the same with regards to the 4 holes in the baffles and the 4 prongs of the SF4P (see pic).

Btw... My 1st response on this subject was not over the 3P. I think Combat_Diver even posted that he had seen a few. I was speaking to the GA Recce suppressor.

As all of the originals/regulars of this thread know, this thread is a revolving door. New people, same shit year after year.

It all depends on what that individual considers a clone. Some make it look close and that's good enough for them, some are purists. I tend to be on the side of purist. Even if I buy an incorrect part, it's to temporarily use and will be switched out for the correct part.

It seems fucking retarded to me to clone a mil rifle and the end goal isn't to use the correct parts.

How many kudos will I get with a M16A1 lower? I'm tempting to sell some extra wheeled toys (hence the Honda in the screenname ) and invest in an FA lower when I come home .

You will get all of the kudos! Not for having an A1 lower, but for selling a CBR.
Kawasaki and Yamaha brother. And a Colt A1.

Thinking hard about it at the moment. With $20,000 it's either gonna be a 30+ years old Colt M16A1 lower or a brand new Ducati 1299S

That is a tough choice. I'd buy the lower, then save up for Ducati 1299. Win win.

Really like the ACOG. May have made a SLIGHT mistake not snagging a BAC model, but I can always swap it, I'll probably put it up for trade soon. Great glass though.

Re the Ducati.... The M16 Lower is more of an investment... But that Ducati is sweet...

I think I want an FDE Warden on my Mk18. I could care less about being 100% clone correct. That just looks bad ass.

I think this is the first time I'll ever have to disagree with you Brother...CBR FTW!!! I used to own a 900RR and a Erion Racing 929RR.. If Honda wasn't an option, I'd probably go GSX-R 1000 or a Ducati..

I just had this same conversation over the weekend at the shop. I have been considering selling my 95 Impala SS and a few guns to get a M16 as well. Too funny.

I really like it. And I'm glad I have it because now I don't think my can is going to work out:/
May be for the best though - could wind up being somewhere much different in the next few months.

Ryan - were we the ones talking about the ECOS? I accidentally deleted my inbox...
