After soaking I'll clamp on a set of vice grips or channel locks to twist to remove. And if really stuck, take a hammer to tap it off.

Is anyone? It's awful. Spray paint is your friend.

Anyway, pic thread. I'm not sure half of this really qualifies as "clone worthy", but it's sure as hell better than airsoft shit.

And... here... we... go...

Next decision: go for short term gratification and start hunting down the remaining small parts each month, or save for a couple and get the Surefire RC on order soonest?

This is what I get for using Fireclean lol  The can pretty much lives on the rifle, but I had a single bottle of fireclean bought before the whole fiasco that I would use on the Surefire mount.  Scrub it with an old toothbrush, wipe it off, put the can back on it, and store it.  No wonder the can got stuck.  Look at that thing.

Also, between RC and RC2, which are most of you going with?

Nice! You will like the RC2. I run that can because I couldn't find a regular RC. The only difference is the font cap and the 1st blast baffle. Also, the RC2 does not have the NSN. Awesome can though.

Out of all the suppressors ive shot, I feel like the finish cooks off once you put the first 100 rounds through it. I just allumahyded mine.

Sidenote, I had to go with the SOCOM-SB because its all my dealer had in stock at the time and was pre-silencer shop easiness... It still pretty quiet even with the larger bore. I run it on my SCAR SBR mostly... MK18 has the M4SDII

I run a Surefire SOCOM mini on mine occasionally. It's a great fit for the gun.

CD posted some pics awhile back of a NG unit that had some state purchased mini monsters. I believe it was 20th SFG IIRC.

28th EOD Company also seems to run minis along with NT4s on their 10.3" uppers. They also run FSP Lite rails which kinda cool too.

(Lots of Surefire minis and 720vs)

(Surefire mini on right gun)

Surefire mini with RIS II, EOTech XPS (no riser) and 720v)

(Surefire mini with LITE rail FSP & XPS on Larue riser)

(Surefire mini with LITE rail FSP with… low pro gas block

I'm not aware of any units using RC2s. That doesn't mean they're not being used, just that I don't know of any pics or information that's surfaced of them. If they were in use, it'd be a unit-level thing like the minis. The actual SOPMOD contract is for the Gen 1 SOCOM RC.

Yep.  Should have been using something that would remove copper fouling.  When I "Cleaned" the flash hider, it looked good to go, put the can back on and let it sit a few months before I shot it again and it was green.

2nd last pic.  Is it me or is that the 1st time I've seen a CQBR with an FSB with rails that wrap around it.   Or is that basically a MK18 with modded rail?  Looks like an A2 lower though.

This has happened once to me. It was after about 800-900 rounds on full auto. I let the can cool too long before I remembered to go shoot it off and sure enough the latch was welded shut. To make matters worse, it was back when I used to keep my laser and light hanging off the front of the rail a bit so I couldn't even get a tool in there. Ended up having to take the laser off and then re-zero it next time I was out.

Since then, I now run my light and laser right even with the end of the rail. And then I picked up a super small cheap strap wrench at Lowes for like $7.99. The way the strap wrench works, there's a nub where the rubber loop goes back through it, so if you put that part *right* on the latch, it essentially pushes the latch in while your twisting it. And then the wrench itself gives it enough torque to make it come free. Works extremely well for $8.

Also, I've since leaned you don't have to crank that latch down when you first put the can on. So I basically just get it finger tight now without trying to get it an extra click or two like I used to before.

For whatever reason the LITE rail FSP seems to show up every now and again. 28th EOD seems to run a lot of them from the ridiculous amount of pics I have of them on different configs. Most often they're just seen on standard 10.3" FSP uppers but some of the guys are running them with low-pro gas blocks (like the last pic I posted). Assuming they probably ran out of RIS IIs or they were delayed or whatever. CD would probably know better why that happens sometimes.

I'm not sure I understand your question about being a Mk 18. These guys are Army, not Navy.

Assuming just like the minis that they're unit purchased and just giving the guys a nice FF rail to run on their 10.3" uppers with more rail space.

I'm not aware of any units using RC2s. That doesn't mean they're not being used, just that I don't know of any pics or information that's surfaced of them. If they were in use, it'd be a unit-level thing like the minis. The actual SOPMOD contract is for the Gen 1 SOCOM RC.

Wonder what the little red things are on the magwell in pics 4 & 5?

You should post it here.

But.....it says mk18 right on the side.

And yet hypocrites are always posting non-MK18s and not given shit.

The 28th EOD (Abn) is at times attached to SOCOM at Bragg.  So they'll seem to get some items and have the ability to purchase some more if shortages exist.  Just remember Mk18 are not used by the Army.  We use the same gun just called M4A1 URG with either 10.3" or 14.5" bbl or as you call Block II.

I think he was trying to tell me that, cuz I mentioned Mk18.  Sorry about that.   So, CQBR with a funky rail, right?  Or did I get that wrong.

In other groundbreaking news, milspec just posted in the Mk12 thread.

Also, between RC and RC2, which are most of you going with?

I love when I see there are new posts in this thread .

Thanks!

Do you guys have experience with the AAC doing this?  We burned through 25 or so mags in short order, and that bitch is welded on, now.  The latch will not depress AT ALL.  I assume getting her smokey hot again will relieve this?  Appreciate any input.  This is the first time it has happened.

I own a SF SOCOM RCMM  5.56MM can and would like to know in the redesign how is the SOCOM II, 5.56 better the the First model SOCOM RC SOCOM can and I own it for ways over a year and had to my own military 5.56mm Blank one time to get the can off after using Fireclean on the Muzzle and it few off No Problem. I will invest in a bunch of military 5.56mm Blanks for the purpose to get my SOCOM can of because  is Frozen/stuck and won't come off the barrel.
