Hmmm...

have to check into that. I just sold one of those rails, wish I would’ve kept it. Was a beautiful light brown. Good luck!

Think I know the answer, but is a sure fire RC1 ever been seen on a recce?

Welcome to our little slice of heaven! I gotta agree with the other dudes that optic on a Lilja/249F would be sick.

Since we’re on the topic of MARSOC, here is a MARSOC rig Minh sent me. Block 2 M4A1 with CQBSS. I know it’s an M4A1 but with that CQBSS and NT4 it’s relative.

Haven’t shot with it yet but initial impression is it blows the Harris away. Feels way lighter, I’m sure most of that weight was the mount for the Harris, and less bulk. Perfect for a shorter precision rig.

As for Mil across the board not sure about going all out just yet. The RAS is the key point in this setup IMO, just cool to discuss the variants. I will add discussion to the title for this purpose.

I was skeptical with the Atlas until I got one for my MK17 build, thing is really nice. Think I'm going to have to get another damnit.

Thanks for your contribution to the cause! Yes, the AEM5 recesses a hair under the rail with the 15.x" barrel. I think the PRI is .5" longer than the FF RAS. To be honest a 14.5/AEM5 combo would be pretty slick going under the tube.

I still love the FF RAS and will be holding on to mine just in case I decide to change or do something different. This change was prompted by my growing fondness for the Holland and PRI tube. The FF RAS/Mod 1 recce is a slick setup but it can look extremely long on the front with a collapsible stock (IMO). This is why I ran the A1 stock on my build to "balance" the length. The fatter tube of the PRI with the longer AEM5 works better with a collapsible stock vs. the FF RAS (IMO). The adjustable stock is a nice pickup over the A1 and I also like the recce rail for more flexible optic placement. The front of the x42 NF is a bee's dick from touching off on the recce rail with the 1" NF rings. I may bump up a size to try and give a little clearance for an objective lens cover.

Damn it! Now you’re making me want to go PRI/recce combo instead of RAS. Can I have my recce back?

Can you post a picture of it without the can? I’m trying to judge how much barrel would be sticking out. I kind of like your idea about the 14.5".

Here you go. Collar starts just in front of the PRI tube.

As a tangent: something I've thought about is using this Spike's gas block/collar combo to get a nice barrel length/gas system combination where you can run the can as high as you want.

For sure. After Labor Day my work schedule opens up and I can shoot a lot more. Utah, Minh, and I have been talking about a shoot. My range is only 165yd. I’ve got a good buddy who has 400 about 10 min from my house, but he is a little slippery to nail down a day to go. It’s usually spur of the moment.

I just went and did a solid once over with it in the prone and sitting in a chair with rifle on a table, legs fully extended. Mine is very tight when full lock but easy to spin the knob 3/4 of a turn to full loose. On full loose it doesn’t flop around like a swivel Harris. The pan feature is very nice! Also the little bit of bend for loading the Bipod is a great idea, I was loading the Bipod on a glass table also keeps you from having to dig the Bipod deep in the ground to get good forward pressure.

Yep I agree, very smooth. Easy to loosen, if needed and doest get sloppy. Really is nice, only issue is the price, but by the time you add all the extras needed to the harris there around the same price.

On a side note from all the lavishing over bipods.....

I'm not one to typically be anal about clone stuff, but I don't really see the point in having Block II's in a Navy Recce Thread when we already have a block II thread.....  Scopes on them just make them block II's with scopes on them.  Or maybe the general recce thread would be fine.

Well RIS II will not be added to the clone build specs on page 1. The FF RAS is the heart of this thread!!!

However, it is a discussion thread about Navy/Delta Recce rifles. We talked about MARSOC a little because it’s relevant. I’m not gonna ask the dudes to take down the photos of legit Mil Recce rigs but I won’t be adding them to the build specs.

Here is a real conundrum...

SEAL with Block II(could be a CQBR from where the accessories are mounted) that has NSW Recce tendencies.

Definitely a MK18.  I have this pic saved on my phone.  It almost inspired me to go for MK18 mini Recce build instead of the Recce.  I’m still on the fence about it actually.

Yeah, to me I view it as a CQBR with a scope on it.  Sure, they may be using it as a recce, but you could do that with any gun.  Which is why the 727 or M4 aren't really part of the whole recce build sheet.  They just got used like one in the beginning and maybe reconfigured a little bit with fixed stocks to help make it more so.

To me it's going to have something more like a 16" barrel and 10" or longer rail.  Of that era.  There are plenty in here that show that build.  Although there does seem to be some variation.  That one guys is possibly an 18".......  And then there are the earlier ones that were obviously pre recce...  ish.

Anyways.....  I guess one has to decide if it's the gun, or what they're doing with the gun.  Because if it's the latter, all kinds of stuff could fit in.  But to me, we have threads for all of those other builds.  And just cuz someone slapped a scope on it, doesn't make it a Navy SEAL Recce type build.  To me that is a very specific carbine.  I would say if you're going to open it up to anything, you would start first with those builds that are pretty much the same.  Because I wonder if CRANE supplied to Navy SEALs and some of the other services, the same type of build.  Like that Air Force guy.....  You know which one I'm talking about?

They are cool to be discussed. But as far as a build they will not be accepted. They are in fact just block II’s with variable power scopes on them, like you stated.

Gotta abide by the build specs on page 1!
