Nah. Gotta stay legit. Plus I just don't see it being worth another $1k over the NX8 after seriously considering it. But I've never used the 1-8 ATACR so who knows.

All,

I updated the OP with the 4 flavors of RECCE. I am sure I missed a lot and might have misdiagnosed some of the Delta rings and OG SEAL rings. If you want me to add anything or correct any mistakes I made DM me.

Also on the 416 recce I am basing the barrel length off of MG42's build. I know there was a photo of Raso with an x32. Not sure if that was a personal rifle or an issued.

You will notice there is no 16" NSW RECCE. I have yet to see an ITW photo using a 16" Ops cut barrel. They are kosher for the thread for those of you not wishing to go 15.1" or the NFA route, but they will not be listed in the OP until a photo surfaces!

Also, the M4A1/CQBR Recce builds can stay in their threads. RAS all day, every day, and twice on Sunday!

Was that on Sawmans rig or a Delta? I figured that would fall under the one off Recce that's cloned from a single photo. Remind me if there are multiple rifles setup like that or just the one.

It's 100% welcome in here regardless.

I was referring to Daryl Holland's rig. I know I've seen another that I can't find right now. Kyle Lamb had one but with an Eotech. I found another a few days ago with Tom Greer but I can't tell if the rail was cut down to be a carbine length rail with FSP or if it was always that way. I have a thread about these tubes if anyone has anything to contribute Here

These were definitely all one-off bastards, which is what drew me to them in the first place.

These?

I've heard this was an issued rifle....

And this was a personal rifle made after he got out. I want to say when these were first posted he said it was a clone of something he'd carried in the teams.

Bottom one was what I was referring to. So yes thanks! That's def a personal rig. So x24 and 1-4 NF are the only ITW optics on the 416 Recce then, to my knowledge.

This was posted in the clown group on FB a couple days ago. Definitely an ops can. And the consensus was it’s a Daniel Defense rail. Picture from FB:

It's definitely a DD rail and Ops 12th. Standard 416 recce setup and just using the DD rail instead of the quad. The DD rail is super common to see on NSW 416 setups, even still today. I use the DD rail on my 416 and love it, super lightweight:

I think I've posted this video here before, but there's a video of a 416/Ops recce on YouTube from some time ago, and I believe everyone was fairly sure it was Dom's rifle:

I also can't remember if it's already been mentioned, but Justin Sheffield talks about using his Recce quite a bit in his book that's out now, Mob VI. I'm not quite through it yet but so far it's a good read. Recommend picking it up if you're at all interested in these rifles and their use. Here's a post from him on it:

Some folks are asking what I used to slay Muj... this was kinda my go to for a bit in those bloody years. Knights Armament made us some nice 5.56 Recce M4s. Longest shots from this were 380 yards. Three dudes. All skulls in pieces. It’s a good one. Ops inc. suppressor for this one. Hope y’all have a good Sunday! #mobvi A post shared by  Justin Sheffield (@mob_vi) on Jun 7, 2020 at 11:19am PDT

Dude, thanks for the info drop! So KAC built the now known "NSW RECCE"? Using the MK12 FF RAS and flush AEM5.

Meh, you gotta take everything these operators write about guns/gear with a little grain of salt. Just because we jizz over every NSN and cage code of every small part doesn't mean they do…

He references a NF 2.5-10x24 as a 4.5-12 in one post. Someone asks him if he ever used Mk 262 and he says no, they only used Black Hills 77. One point he says his Reece was 16 even tho his pics are flush mount 15", etc…

All that to say, I'm sure he could snipe the nut out of a squirrels hand with that rifle at 400yds, any elevation, any wind condition, under nods… but sometimes if you're looking for technical specs on the engine, it's best to ask the mechanic or manufacturer, not the driver. Could be KAC built them. Could be Crane or NSW did and he saw KAC marked on the handguard and assumed KAC built them… who knows. I'm guessing these guys were a little too busy learning how to kill people, and then doing it, to worry too much about who exactly torqued their barrel nut.

But that said, highly recommend the book. Details of some cool uses of the recce in there. One point he references assembling the lower/upper together and then threading the suppressor on after a jump.

And yes, that one shot of "Sonny's" rifle is a micro on a rulr.

Here's another from his Instagram, this time his brother's rifle (also in Dev):

Very true. I was just thinking how weird it would be if they used E3 bolts and KAC barrels. I'd really like to know who cut these barrels and what blanks were used!

Man the last couple of pages have been pretty convincing to make a NSW Recce build. I have BlockII'ed Nsw built up but, it's not scratching the same itch like some of these pics.
I'll be breaking down that upper and making the swap, just needed a push.

Man I need one of these.

I've been thinking about rolling back to a FF RAS for my recce/precision rig. I will at least snag a rail and figure out what to do with it later. And yeas the medium FF RAS is calling me too. I guess I just need all of them.

Please hold a MF accountable! I've been playing in no man's land for a while but seeing you come back to the promised land was the push I needed to just do it. And snagging a CLE with bolt for 33% off. Couldn't pass that up. Unless it's a shit barrel then I only have myself to blame for being cheap.

Yeah. I asked him exactly what he meant by that. He said he was having loose primers and bad ejection marks with his admittedly hot loads. I'll just be using factory loads, though.
