Hey anyone have Ron at Allen Engineering's email address? Their website is down and I don't do faceblock. (Opsec ;) I need to ask him for a part. Feel free to IM me if you don't want to post here. Would be greatly appreciated.

I guess I can ask here too. Anyone know where I can get a proper sized set screw for the ops collar? I got a SWEET long collar from CD but the set screw I had here is slightly too large

In case anyone's looking, I just listed a DD Mk12 gas block in the EE. Pretty sure those are clone correct.

Drill and tap the hole for the larger set screw.  The factory ones are about worthless.  I've done both of mine.  You can pick up a drill/tap combo cheap at Lowes, Home Depot etc.

I feel greatfull to have gotten to them before you did and got the one with a set screw

Anywho, I've had this situation in the past before.

I just took the collar to various hardware parts stores to fit set screws. I think I found the set screw I needed at a True Value store.

Take the collar and go shopping.

Ya,  Ron's a good guy as I had emailed him several months back when my set screw stripped out.  That small 1/16th head strips easily.  Not the threads but the socket area where the allen goes.

I ended up just drilling and tapping for a larger set screw on the advice of some other members here.

Question about paint and suppressors.

My AEM5 is still on a F4. When we go hunting, my buddy mounts his AEM5 on my Mk12, and we rotate on who's on Mk12, and who's on the 12ga. I've noticed that my muzzle device shows the paint kind of "burning" if you will and darkening in color. His can is cerakoted, but I will be rattle canning mine like an Army of Juan.

Question being, will my can eventually turn that paint a baked color like the muzzle device?

Yeah, straight Skilcraft is super bright. It's identical to 686A tan (vehicle paint), so I'm sure it's great over "there," but definately pretty bright for most use here in God's Country.

Solid Skilcraft (makes a great base coat though):

With contrast your shit looks tight though. What brown is that? I've been using 686 Brown from Rapco (Gillespie paint) and it's a nice medium brown, not too dark like the Rusto or Kyrlon brown.

It's rustoleum dark earth brown. But on top of the oblit, it makes it a little lighter and pops, and really rustles me jimmies.

DRMO, at least that's what I'm seeing from the old NSN listings. I have this feeling if the uppers ever got out, they would likely be given as gifts or something, maybe supply guys strike em off the list and they could be given for retirement, or to guys that really liked them? Outside the PRI batch that were sold and original Maj Jiga rifles as seen here, I doubt we are going to ever see surplus Mk12 uppers. The Marines are notorious for continually rebuilding whatever we get handed down, and with future budget cuts I wouldn't be surprised if the bits of Mod 1's keep getting reused for match rifles or something. But the early SPRs had some durability issues, so there is also the issue that many have already been decommissioned/DRMO/broken up.

Any thoughts from our "informants"?

For as outstanding as their optics are, they definitely dropped the ball with those covers.

I prefer "taupe" thank you

Yeah, straight Skilcraft is super bright. It's identical to 686A tan (vehicle paint), so I'm sure it's great over "there," but definately pretty bright for most use here in God's Country.

Solid Skilcraft (makes a great base coat though):

Word. I'll probably get lynched for this, but my base is always skilcraft tan oblit. My B2-

Its a Specter Gear 3 point for an M16. Really comfy sling and versatile.

Silver lining: Will the public see surplus uppers? (You know someone in the system loves them as we do)

As per ATF, once a machine gun, always a machine gun.  Guns would more then likely will get parted out and demilled.  I know we were told the Mk48 7.62mm lightweight MGs we shipped back from Astan to Crane were to get demilled and not put in storage.

I doubt we'd see surplus Mk12 parts.

If they cut up old and new Interceptor vests and demil Humvees prior to sale....I'd bet all you'd get from surplus Mk12's is steel and aluminum chunks.

Man, that makes me sick to think of those uppers being destroyed.
