Love that MRE. I wish there were more options out there like it. I've thought about chopping a LaRue rail to give it "ears" alongside the FSB like the MRE.

I still have the TA01NSN, but I'm currently looking for a "period correct" low-power variable and #22H's and possibly another KAC 300m.

I also have to decide who to send it to to have a spacer machined for the NT4. Any recommendations?

I'm gonna cast some lines out for some used hardware but I'll hold onto the NSN until I make up my mind.

I didn't think about it until now, but I guess I could grab a ts-30/ts-30a2 and try it on there.

Did you ever contact braceman about the possibility of getting an "A" filler tube?

Before you pin, the fixed stock MRE "recce" might be an option with a TS-30 variant - plus, it would be a 16" barrel, or, if you stick with the 14.5" barrel, a "MSG Horrigan" type might be an interesting direction to go.

I love the look of the "A" fillers, but this picture has been driving me nuts since I got the MRE.

I think I just need to bite the bullet and start saving for an S&B.

Another option is the Leupold 1.5-5x20 MK4, there are some info and pictures of them in use on page 135 of the thread. I have seen these go for about 500 bucks on the EE.

Thanks for the heads up.
What do you guys think the better deal is: 6 mk4's or 1 short dot?

shitty pic, but I'm trying to convince myself to keep the NSN on there, and seeing how a chopped FSB would look (probably looks better with an "A" filler tube).

Nice! reading thru this thread I been looking forward to this build. I've heard the 15-22's are the best 22 ARs and been thinking of doing a dedicated 22 AR soon.

What do you use for the stencil?

leave the FSB and get a Short Dot. I had one about 10 years ago, really liked it, and it'll continue to hold it's value, the mk4s are plentiful and will depreciate at a much faster pace. You could easily buy a used short dot, use it for 2 or 3 years and sell it for that same price as you bought it.

That rail was made to free float and to accommodate that FSB. I really like it with the FSb myself.

Shit man, S&Bs are big fuck'n bucks. But it'd be 2-legit-2-quit, that's f'sho. Big bucks on 1-4x optics don't make much sense to me when that little CMR does the trick for a fraction of the cost. I know that's blasphemy when talking about clones but shit...

The only way that rifle is leaving me, is when Lance picks it up after they read my will.

Back on track, whatcha think about a Pride Fowler CQLR-1? It's similar in size and shape to the short dot, for quite a bit less. Decent glass, I like the reticle for recce purposes, and the used prices ain't too bad.

No experience with the 1-4, but I had brief trigger time behind a PFI 10x42 on a bolt gun that I really liked; I'm not much for fixed power optics, but it was an excellent set-up and really liked the "rapid reticle".

Both the accuracy and range performance (or at least, performance potential) of M4 variants was, IMHO, far underestimated when the "recce" was originally developed - as the whole "class" of rifles has holistically become, I think that it's become more apparent that most high quality rifles are sufficient to the task "off the rack," rather than needing to be a Lilja SS barreled, 16" "custom" gun.
