Also, that Huey rotor blade is bass ackwards.  Leading edge should be flip flopped (counter clockwise rotation, not clockwise).

Unless it's a Chinook or Sea Knight then my theory is shot to heck.

Probably not a patch, that's probably where he got the fanny pack.

I came across this picture in some old pictures that my grandmother had. Most of them were family pictures, but this guy isn't related to me. My aunt was sorting through the pictures with me and she knew who he was, but I've never seen him before. I thought it was interesting that there are two M16s in the picture (he must have had a friend that got out of view for the picture). Also, what sort of magazine is that? It looks significantly longer than a 20-round magazine, but it is straight. Is that one of the Armalite 25-round magazines?

On the back was hand written:

"Me sitting in my new dining room eating breakfast."

I think it is one of the 1st model 30 round magazines that had a continuous curve to it. Modern ones have the two straight sections at the top and bottom, with a sharper curve in the middle.

There's no curve to it though, continuous or otherwise. The magazine in the picture is perfectly straight.

Here's a closer look at it:

Anyone know the source on this photo?  Between the multicam and the 635 type it looks like it might be a posed commercial photo.  The lower receiver looks odd to me too, especially the rollmarks (or lack thereof).

I think the mag is a standard 20, that simply is not seated all the way. I don't believe the 25 round mags made it beyond the testing and evaluation phase.

[Last Edit: Mantracker] [#30]
I agree that the magazine is a 20 round.  It looks this way because the magazine hasn't been seated inside the well all the way.

I believe the first people to recieve the 30 round magazine just may have been the guy's in SOG.  This came about from all the "1-0's" who pooled their money together to buy the magazines from the old Sherwood Store in the back pages of a mag entitled Popular Mechanics.

The above was found by John Plaster who asked anybody who wanted a 30 round magazine to donate the money into a pool especially for the 1-0's and he sent the money to his father so he could send them a check and recieve the magazines himself then they were mailed to John Plaster's to MACVSOG in care of Mr. John Plaster.  For them this was Christmas when they recieved their new 30-round magazines

Anybody around here still remember the store or their advertisements?   RT Utah, I believe we know each other.  Send me a private message to me.and we will talk about things from the old days?

Just my $.02 worth.

Check out all these pics but its not about the weapon. Its about the military. Even in the jungle these guys were not slobs. All of their clothing was tailored , not like the baggy ass slobs of present day. And the weapon was upgraded to compencate for idiots. Just like the present day 3 round burst.

XM148 goodness.

And the ParaRescue rubby ducky is the 9mm variant.  I figured everyone else caught that but no one mentioned it.  In case there is doubt about it being a rubber duck, look at the trigger molded in the trigger guard.

flatdarkmars,
The third one picture from the the top is RT Idaho taken in 1971.  The Indig is carring a "special muzzel flash suppressor" ( ie., it looks like the sound end of a high school air horn).

The three shot 40mm is called a "Name 3-barrel 40mm Grenade launcher".
It was used by the SEALS in Vietnam (under trial).
Here are more stats on this weapon:
style='font-weight: bold;'][/span]
1)  3) Type of fire:  Single shot, repeater style='font-weight: bold;']Shoots the exact same cartridge as did the the M-79 (40x46mmSR)2)  Operation:  Manual, double action[/span]
3)   [span style='font-weight: bold;'] style='font-weight: bold[/span];']Muzzel Velocity is[/span]:  215 fps and the 203 puts out a grenade at 235 fps.
4)  [span style='font-weight: bold;'] Rate of fire:  [/span] 9 rpm
5)   [span style='font-weight: bold;']Feed[/span]: One round at a time per barrel.
6)   [span style='font-weight: bold;']Weights[/span]:  (including the weight of the M16A1.  weapon (empty) 4.5 lbs.  Weapon and its M16A1 mount and including a      magazine w/20roundsl in the magazine is 13.73 lbs.  Weight of the of the weapon itself is 4.5 lbs.
7)   [span style='font-weight: bold;']Magazine, 3 rounds, full without mounted is only 1.5 lbs.[/span]8)    Service cartridge is the M406 HE weighs .38 lbs.
9)    [span style='font-weight: bold;']Barrel on the weapon is only 6 inches long[/span]10)  Minimum arming distance is 45-90 ft.  Maximum range is 372 yds.
11)  [span style='font-weight: bold;']  style='font-weight:[/span] bold;']Effective range: [/span] 328 yds.

I hope this what it is that your looking at?  also, please fogive me on these BOLD errors
