Don't forget that the SPEAR was birthed from the MCX-MR. Sig guys can correct me if I'm wrong, but that was a CSASS (compact semi-auto sniper system) entry.
Link to MCX-MR Article says that it can do sub MOA. We'll see what the commercial SPEAR-H can do once it's in the wild. |

I am getting the 308 version and then barrels in 6.5 and 277. Prob even a 13.5 barrel too. I hope it shoots lights out but I don’t think that’s the intent. I can’t recall if anyone ever stated what the army’s accuracy requirement was originally?

That would have opened up some very interesting possibilities. |

Remember that MCX deployment bag? If Sig doesn't offer any bags for Spear, does anyone have any reccs for a good soft bag the 16" would fit in?

I was gonna go crazy if I couldn't ever get one. https://i.imgur.com/NPRQMmC.jpg Initial shooting impression. Way softer recoil than what the internet said. Shoots badass. Ran some of the FMJ and some of the Hybrid cased Accubond. 5 shot group of Accubond was a clover group, shot with the Tango DVO. We were quite surprised with the accuracy. We're going to slap a better scope next week and see how tight we can get the groups under controlled settings. Took it out to 500 with the DVO, surprisingly the BDC aligned fairly well within a 6" vertical target zone. Will definitely be going out to 1000 next week, and better documenting it. Definitely can't wait for the commercial release. Everything so far is pointing to it being a awesome setup. Now watch me neck this brass down. |

That sounds like good news. I *think* that I'm going to go with 6.5Jesusmoor. But who knows what will happen if the first one I see in stock is .308.

My understanding of everything I've read so far is that the current production Hybrid cased ammunition will get you roughly 2900fps or more out of a 13" barrel which is really impressive for a .270 cartridge given the 13" barrel. The brass case stuff is more in line with what you would normally expect from a 13" barrel, around 2600fps. No one as far as I am aware has been able to get a hold of the military projectiles. I saw them pictured in the latest issue of American Rifleman's print magazine. Visually they seem similar in construction to the new M855A1 projectile. That's gonna be what can be used to punch ballistic plates. Take one of those projectiles, load it into the high pressure hybrid case screaming at 2900fps from a 13" barrel, oh yea . Recoil should be mild versus a .308 given that this basically boils down to the age old .270 vs. .30 cal debate. I love these new cartridges that are being designed. My only concern with this one is how long will the gun last firing a steady diet of .277 Fury Hybrid rounds. Probably due to the cost few of us will find out. |

Maybe there is some big advantage it has over 308 even at 16"? Doesn't 308 have more energy at shorter ranges.. feels like theyre just chambering it in this b/c they can & its ez Idk... Kind of an anticlimactic release for me tbh... after all this time, finally, here it is........ actually, not really. Real Fury Spear still TBA... "later on" Also, feels like the Fury version full rifles would be available for a year+ while lil me is stuck waiting yet again for the caliber kit for my CM If I can't have my Fury then would rather the Raptor in 308 at least, but, that's "later" too so... waiting for that instead is an option as well. Bet it arrives before Fury Spear dunno man, I don't have any CM rifles so if I see one for MAP and am in a mood maybe I'll grab it. There was a 13.5” 6.5CM at range day that had me scratching my head and excited at the same time.
These blasters are pure sex. |
