I have not had any issues with this (but I do plan on getting some 7.62 magpuls for them)

Eh Coastie,

How are you liking the split front cummerbund flap? Aside from limiting mag pouch possibilities, its amazing nobody has thought of it before.  Easier to take off the rig by removing just one side cummerbund without disturbing the otherside, I imagine.

I love it. I don/dof it by just lifting the panel with the admin pouch, the mag pouch panel stays put. FWIW: You can't go wrong with the HSGI Tacos on this rig.

Hope this helped

I don't know if this counts as porn since it's my DIY patrol vest.

I got sick of the aftermarket outer carriers being so bulky and heavy, so I bought some 1000 denier coated nylon, some really tough webbing and a few buckles and went to town.  It's got six points of attachment/adjustment and 5 rows of MOLLE webbing.  I've got some Blackhawk pouches on there, but I can't decide if I want to keep the BlueforceGear 10-speed AR pouch on the left side or keep my radio there.

really sorry about the awful pics, but the wife's iPad isn't cooperating today.

My sentiments, exactly!

A few questions:

What is the single molle loop at the top for? (just wondering.)

Do you wear it with the comm wires through the vest like that?

I am well aware that routing comm wires is an exercise in compromise but it seems that having the wires between you and the armor would be uncomfortable. Especially if you had to prone out for a while.

Thanks again.  The loop isn't really for MOLLE, it's just a loop for winter time so I can put my mic. in the middle of my chest and still get to it easily, but also zip up my jacket most of the way.  As far as the comm wires, they run in between the back panel and my body, so they're not too uncomfortable.  This thing weighs very, very little compared to most outer carriers, so it doesn't put too much pressure on me to begin with.  They don't really dig in.

I am posting this kit as my (probably weak) contribution to the "gear porn" thread.
Details:
Point Blank Interceptor OTV with large plates (trade for computer repair)
SDS FLC with pouches (under $30 from CTD)
TT Drop Leg (trade for computer repair)
No name belt ($20 from local Army Surplus)

I have played around with the configurations and I like what I currently have.  Triple shingles along the front allow me to easily go prone and having two double mag pouches on my belt riding near my butt allows me to reload well while doing so.  I am lacking pistol mag pouches which will be on the belt near the front.  The FLC kit from CTD came with two canteen pouches, one of which I turned into a FAK.  All in all I have around $50 and a few hours of work invested here.  I have not taken a carbine course with this setup, a situation I hope to change soon.  That will probably result in some changes.

Critique?

Thats some nice kit.
I like your shears retention, but I'd like to make one suggestion.
Make one leg longer than the other and tie a knot right at the end of that longer side.
That way when you remove the shears, the toaster will stay with you and not dissappear into the grass.

Having worked with air assets, I would rather have the ID than a blue on blue.

The AC-130 class they tell you to only have a small square (like a 1x1) on you, too big of ones causes too much reflection and it makes it difficult for them to PID you when they burn.

I've never had it on in thick brush.  The only time I'm crawling or staying close to the ground and cover is when I'm about to slug an elk.  I usually don't have any extra gear on other than a backpack for that because they don't shoot back.

You know, I have thought the same thing. I see a lot of pouches on here with these bungies and was curious if this was a problem.
When clearing  buildings, equpiment can and does get caught on door jams, door knobs, furniture ect.
Clearing a fence or climbing through windows could cost you if you get a serious hang up caused by your equipment, and these bungies look like they could take a little time to un-tangle.
Does anyone know if this has been an issue?

i have had a lot of things snag up on me  in some classes I never would have thought would hang up.  and when doing drills  with friends and just hiking in the woods with light gear to see how it carries I have had a few snags with stuff like that.   I wonder the same thing with those bungees. I stay clear of them but I really want to like them

True, but in reality, there are a lot of times when the IR reflective square is not pointed towards the IR source.

+1.

alot of people think the IR flags and such are self illuminated or glow in the dark type stuff.

they have to be actively illuminated to glow, they are just IR REFLECTIVE.

this would be true if you had shit hanging off of you, but the bungee on the TACOs are under tension obviously even more so if a mag is in the pouch. its lays tight and flat on you and i dont see any reason for it to snag on anything.

Really?  I don't see it...

I love the vest.  I actually bought it for hunting.  I obviously don't use the mag pouches while hunting.  My dad and I have a rule that if we leave the horses or our pack frames to go after game, we have to take a survival kit with food and water.  He prefers a dopey fanny pack, I prefer the vest because I can throw my backpack over it.

It's not so much for reaching on your own but fighting off your buddies back. Or just having spares that someone can grab for you and you back load your empties into it.
If you have the regular shoulder straps on it you can just take the pack off yourself and grab what you need.

So much for dispersion then. Im not sure if i would run up behind a guy and try to grab a mag off his back. Out of instinct i would turn around and butt stroke that MFer thinking the enemy was trying to take me out or something. Thats what communication is for really. You should let your buddy know you are reloading, low on ammo or need a mag so he can toss you one. If need be the guy with the mag could bring you one.

thats just my $0.02, but if course i am talking about a legit combat situation. Im sure it would provide useful in some other situation though

it is a very nice pack though

LE tac teams/SWAT types sometimes have the "load from a buddy" thing going on, then again they are in a somewhat different situation than most .mil personnel and tend to stick pretty close together (physical proximity) during jobs.

Yeah i can see it. Only reason why i would not do it is because since its close proximity, I dont know if that person tugging on my pack for a mag is friendly or not. Could be a bad guy hiding behind a door
