Iis, for all intents and purposes, a smooth-bore handgun. The factory pistol-gripped Mossberg 500 Cruisers and similar 870's are not considered AOW's because they have barrels in excess of 18" and OAL in excess of 26", which means they are just considered 'firearms' by BATFE, much like a stripped AR-15 lower receiver. |

My first SBS, a factory 14" Mossy 590. I would have just done a Form 1 and chopped one of my other Mossy's, but that's illegal in MA. Shortening a shotgun to 14" would be illegal as a "Sawed off shotgun". Those are very dangerous, evil and illegal here. But, I can buy a factory 14" SBS because it was never "Sawed off" so it's nice and legal, and us law abiding, upstanding citizens can be trusted with them.
Makes sense, huh?

Sorry about guys , that law changed at 2008, so these two short barrels were in Valhalla since then!
So a Rem 1100 and Benelli M1and M4 are the next on the list. Have a slightly Rem 1100 with two long barrels (one with rifle sights and one with bead sight) on my seek list, Is shorter than 14" for a 1100 barrel a good option? Or is that too bad for reliability  ????

I have half of a safe full of 1897's, but most of them are original and I'm not chopping them. I do have only one that was chopped before I got my hands on it, so that would be the one. No heat shield for mine, but the barrel would end right at the mag tube. I would definitely add that kit which includes a new mag spring and follower that allows an extra round to fit in the mag tube. I NEED one of these! |

I will put the Speedfeed stock back on if I decide to use it for anything more than a toy, but I have plenty of other shotguns to fill that need.

Kharn It came from the factory with the nylon strap on the forend, but I didn't like it. No problems with recoil for me anyway, but a few people have shot one shot and handed it back to me though. Maybe I shouldn't have loaded it with some old 3" 00 Buck I was burning up! I will absolutely say the felt recoil is far less with this style grip than a standard pistol grip. |

Barrel is 6.5" and it will run Federal 1 1/8oz #8 target loads in MD-20 drums at factory spring tension of 3 full turns while using factory unmodified springs, factory puck, and factory gas regulator. This one is all 'smithing. As far as I know, this is the only sub-8" Saiga 12 that runs like it does. Tromix built some 6" guns a few years ago, but, according to Tromix, they would only run 3" slugs and buck and there is no video proof that I am aware of. evl.... |

Slapped some krylon on it. Need to replace the velcro on the side with some multicam as the black lost some adhesion with the paint, did prove the concept well though.

I hope to start taking people's money in the near future. I own a couple of companies in the swimming pool industry. One is blowing up and the other is stagnant, so I hope to replace the stagnant one with a very exclusive, focused, good ol' fashioned one at a time custom shop. The 6.5" guns will be built in very limited numbers and will be very expensive, but performance and attention to detail will be guaranteed. The Ferrari of Saiga 12 shotguns, if you will.
