Again, all the GOP had to do was half ass everything, something....anything on health care, something on taxes, something on immigration..do some token work and tell America they they would revisit it when they had more votes.  All they had to do was ride the trump wave to 2018, face fuck the 10 dem seats that are in trump states and roll into the next legislative session with a super majority and a mandate....AND a president that wouldn't fight them on anything.   Trump wants success, he will take credit for it no matter where it comes from just like any president. Now they have fuckall and a potential adversary in the WH.

All they had to do was not step on their own dick for 2 years.  2 years of making Trump look good and MAGA and they would have had the keys to castle, and the voters would have loved them in the meantime.   Now, Trump is going to ride whatever pony is moving and everyone fucking sees the GOP for the soup sandwich of a party that they are.

What did dems do when they had this setup? They socialized a third of the economy...no big deal... what did republicans do?  Perfected the circular firing squad! for fucks sake!

The only reason half the republicans in the senate including their geriatric turtle looking motherfucker of a leader have a job is because the alternative is actually worse.

This right here.
The skinny obamacare repeal would have done just fine.
A tax cut would be fine.
A border wall would have been just fine.

Then could have rolled into midterms with some accomplishment and eagerness to do more. People would have voted accordingly.

if they aren't real damn careful people will catch on that there isn't a lick of difference between the two parties and then the game will really be over.  If the voters ever woke up to the fact that most of the differences are manufactured to keep us busy, instead of thinking about things,  politics would get sporty in a hurry. It would make the 2016 election look like the calm before the storm.

This is all about the midterms. GOPe's plan was to slowwalk everything, get through the midterms, and then keep kill everything so they can get rid of Trump in 4 years. Nail him in the primary with he made a lot of promises but was not able to deliver. They are playing the waiting game. It is real easy to do nothing, if everyone is doing nothing you can point fingers and coast in to re-election on name recognition.

Let's recap how this can play out. First DACA. Congress can sit on it for 6 months while public opinion moves against them, and Trump campaigns about how he was not going to continue Obama's tyranny, and Congress needs to fix it. They can wait and have it hanging over their head during the primaries, or act quickly, take the hit now, spin it, and Trump gets to talk about how Congress with his leadership acted quickly to <do the thing in the best possible light>. Win/win.

Now we have a 90 day budget. GOPE wanted to stall and eventually make a deal that pushed it past the midterms. The longer they stall the longer Harvey relief appears to be delayed, then they can hammer Trump on his "delay in helping rebuild Texas after hurricane Harvey. Look how poorly he handled that tragedy" followed by hit piece after hit piece.  All the while they can dick around for two more years running out the clock and replace Trump without ever having done anything. He failed to MAGA but Senator Republicrat will grant all your wishes.

Instead we have Congress having to do something about DACA and being on record of either doing something, or doing nothing. Both are politically dangerous. Especially if your are in a Purple state. Trump comes during Primary and says "incumbent sucks, give me someone new". For those who break ranks and are loyal Trump shows up, holds a rally, has you in stage with him, shakes your hand, and declares "incumbent is one of the good ones working to MAGA!". Add in the 90 day budget on the table and now you have two potentially damaging votes on your record. Trump flies in "Incumbent sucks, he put politics ahead of helping the people of texas  in a time of tragedy when we should have been rebuilding their homes and MAGA" or Trump flies in "Incumbent is one of the good ones, he acted decisively to do what was needed to bring relief to the victims of harvey and helped to MAGA."

You lose some seats to Dems, but you can lose some, especially the biggest names in the GOPe and you win the long run. Plus you make some stops in purple states and you can pick up some Republican seats from weak democrats. Especially since you have gained some bipartisan appeal by showing people you both CAN and WILL work with the other side. Some people would never vote for a Republican, but if you can create a difference between the "crazy republicans" and the MAGA new blood you might even grab a chunk of the angry 3rd party.

This leaves our Congress critters two choices. Dig in their heels, and hope they can avoid getting throw out of DC by running on a platform of opposing Trump, or get on Team MAGA and ride the popularity wave to an easy reelection. Make no mistake, this was all about setting up the midterms and forcing the party to make a stand.  Expect to see a couple more examples until they get the hint and things start hitting his desk.

Contextually, the debt ceiling is a farce anyway. It always gets raised. However, by threatening to take away the OPTION to make a stand on power of the purse grounds, Trump is effectively telling Congress that either they get on board the Trump Train or they lose a chunk of power for a looooong loooong time.

So, in short order he; forced the GOP into taking a stance on DACA during primary season, forced the GOP into taking a stance on the debt ceiling during primary season, threatened their power of the purse via a "gentleman's agreement", and showed the GOP that he is willing to negotiate with the "other side" if the GOP chooses to remain in obstructionist mode.

Either he's lighting a fire that the GOP can't tap dance around without being burning themselves down in the hopes of forcing them into action or he's straight up given up on the GOP after realizing they don't really want to MAGA and decided to work with Democrats to avoid a lame duck presidency.

We voted for chaos and it looks like we just got it in spades.

The GOPe playbook.
1. Speak conservatively...play to the conservative base.
2. Delay and obstruct conservatives in congress.....play to the liberal base.
3. Always attack the "authoritarian power hungry" President that stands in their way.
4. Campaign against Liberals in the primary.
5. Campaign against conservatives in the general.

The "republicans" decided to not get anything done, and to continue losing. They're going to pay for that. Do you think the country is filled with idiots that want to believe in the same people who failed them for 8 years, or do you think we're ready to get shit done? Your precious make believe conservatives have the house and the senate. WTF have they done?

For those of us that get it this was brilliant by Trump.

We have a GOP controlled house and senate, yet a few there refuse to support his agenda (think McCain, Ryan McConnell, Graham).

So now after the GOP elitists turning their back on Americans, Trump turns to Dems telling them he *may* support amnesty of DACA kids...but wants their support for tax reform and the border wall (only a few votes are needed - look at the McCain fuck on Obamacare). He kicks the DACA deal to 6 months from now (when many smug as sRINOs are up). The optics of deporting illegal kids will be bad, but he will sacrifice leaving them here if just a few Dems support tax reform for the middle class and the wall so RINO fuckery does not happen again.

This was BTW the huge mistake Reagan made when he gave amnesty in the 80's...the Dems screwed him as they were suppose to support border security in return..it never happened, they lied. So Trump is telling Dems this time, you support both tax reform and the wallin the next few months and I'll give the DACA kids amnesty in 6 months...a small price to pay..you screw me and all bets are off in 6 months. This is why its in 6 months...the GOP midterms will be in full running and Dems will by them have to choose....fucking brilliant. We get the wall border security and tax reform all for giving some DACA kids something we would never had taken anyways...bravo Mr President.

You trust the GOPe to fix something they have taken possession of?
Understood
You are talking out of both sides of your mouth..............which is it Trump's fault or Congress's fault?
Not at all

Trump wants .fed healthcare and was willing to take possession of ObamaCare and add to it
Congress (for what ever reason) thwarted his efforts
No........not for "whatever reason".........the 3 crucial senators used liberal talking points as their justification for voting no.

It is because the senate has too many liberals that this all failed.

Not Trump's fault.
Why was Trump incapable of making "a deal" with them?  I was told he was the best dealmaker ever.

Alternatively, why couldn't Trump make "a deal" with 3 Democrats to get their support and offset the moderate R's?
How many times did the R controlled Congress pass a bill to straight repeal the ACA while Obama was in office?
How many did they pass since Trump has been in office?

How is the difference between the two number's Trump's fault?

https://hotair.com/archives/2017/09/06/trump-sides-pelosi-schumer-gop-backing-short-term-debt-ceiling-hike/

Conservatives who oppose a debt-ceiling increase without spending concessions will celebrate that they get another crack at this in December, but the joke’s on them. The only thing Trump really wants from Democrats is funding for the wall, and he foolishly thinks that a big debt ceiling/shutdown showdown right before Christmas will increase his leverage to get it. In fact, it increases Schumer’s leverage: Democrats will inevitably support a clean debt-ceiling hike if need be, leaving Trump faced with the dilemma of whether to risk a default by standing firm on wall funding, which every one of his advisors will be urging him not to do, or to cave and embarrass himself. If he’s dead set on a fight over the wall, he should have insisted on a long-term debt-ceiling increase in order to take the risk of default off the table and focused on government funding instead. Ryan and McConnell are veterans of debt-ceiling brinksmanship and know from experience how stupid and futile it is. Trump’s going to learn the hard way. Maybe we need to learn the hard way too by actually hitting the ceiling. Let’s get on with it.

If you’re resolved to believing that Trump is playing eight-dimensional rather than one-dimensional chess here, the best I can offer you by way of a theory is that he wants the DREAM Act to pass and realizes that maximizing Schumer’s leverage is the easiest way to make it happen. Now that Dems have a new debt-ceiling fight coming, Schumer could hold out for a DREAM bill as part of it — and Trump, who’s sympathetic to DREAMers, could agree to sign it while pretending that his hand was forced. “That bastard Schumer is going to let the U.S. default on its debts if I don’t agree to this DREAM thing! I have no choice!” That wouldn’t be good for Trump’s alpha-male brand but it’ll solve his DACA problem, at least.

Exit question: This is twice in 24 hours that POTUS has scored an own-goal in negotiations. Has this guy even read “The Art of the Deal”?
The part in red is flawed.
If Trump was really sympathetic to dreamers, the easiest thing to do would be to ignore DACA and let it keep going forward.
I dont know exactly what Trump is doing. It does look like he's positioning this to hit at the start of mid terms.
I'm fucking disgusted by Congress and will vote against my Rep (R - Ann Wagner) in the primary and will vote for the most conservative candidate running for Claire McCaskill's seat in the Senate.
He couldn't ignore it if he wants it to stay. It was going to court, and would have been struck down. He bought DACA six months.
When was DACA going to expire? Did it expire prior to Trump's announcement the other day and he just extended it? Did he buy DACA 6 months or did he shut it down before it went to court, allowing everyone to sign up for it in the mean time?

DACA was signed by Obama in June 2015. Why did it take so long to take it to court if it was illegal per se and going to be struck down anyway.

Blue States gave him seven months after he took office to do what he said he would do on "day one". When he did nothing the states decided to force his hand.

Daca lawsuits

Trump on Tuesday moved to sunset the DACA program, acting in response to a threat from 10 states led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sent in late June, threatening Trump that they'd sue in an unfriendly court if the President didn't end the program by September 5.
The President said his administration would not accept any new DACA applications from Tuesday onward and that any two-year DACA permits expiring after March 5, 2018, would not be renewed.

There are too many dimensions involved in this chess game for me to keep up. All I know is now Trump is making deals with Schumer and Pelosi? Bannon is out, Gorka is out, there's no wall, there's no obamacare repeal, there's no tax cuts, no enactment of any pro-gun legislation of any kind, and even his slow motion suspension of DACA is just window-dressing for his true desire to have congress create their own legal DACA. This is not how you make America great, and if he keeps on this course there'll be no reëlection. If I'm still on the train at all I'm starting to look for a soft place to land.

The train may have no brakes, but the boiler is also out of fuel and it's slowly coasting to a halt.

Oh for those heady days when we thought he would use his lawful legitimate power as president to get rid of the anti-gun EOs hanging over us....

Sorry, meant Red States.

DACA would only 'expire' with the Obama executive order rescinded. In order to stave off a bunch of Republican states going to court, he kinda' ended it. Or not. He bought the dreamers time, and pretty much ordered Congress to make DACA the law of the land.

He could have ended DACA immediately, as he promised to do on "Day One". He ignored it until he was forced into doing nothing that looks like something. Within six months we will see DACA codified into law with the signature of Donald Trump on the bottom line.

I am sincerely waiting for a logical answer..........seriously.

I've explained this to you before.

Your guy promised you the damn world.  He was LITERALLY supposed to 'make America greater than it has ever been before.'

He also said that he was the worlds greatest deal makers and negotiators and that he was going to negotiate tremendous deals for America.

So the guy has promised to make America greater than it has ever been before, and he's said that he's the worlds best negotiator / strategist / advertiser -- but now you expect us to not assign any blame to him for failing to push through Ocare repeal (among other things)?

Which is it, RDak?  You don't get to have it both ways.
