I don't think it's funny, but it isn't the first time a moral panic has forced the hand of a sports franchise to change its name and/or mascot (the Reds had to be the Redlegs for a while because of the Red Scare in th late 40s and early 50s and the whole NCAA forcing pretty much every team with anything Indian to change except for the FSU Seminoles) and it won't be the last. But there's nothing we can do about it and it won't stop until the teams or fanbases push back either by telling the mob to fuck off or not going to games or buying merch after a change. |
