It washed away all memory of episodes 1-3. That alone was worth the price of admission.

I might be too much of a nerd. Some of the technical details were 'wat?!' to me.
And the opening crawl could have done a better job of explaining the past 30 years. |

I wish they would have kept the original sound effects for the light sabers. I'm sure I'm not the only one bothered by this.

I enjoyed it. I'll leave it at that for those who haven't seen it yet.

By the way, is it just me, or is it the latest trend in sci-fi to put all of your exposition in other media besides your main story?

Ok two big complaints for me was the humor and this one: the ships
Did anyone think they moved in Such a fashion that's unbelievable? The falcon in particular looked too nimble and agile when it turned like it did. |

View Quote No it's plausible, assuming their technology allows powerful enough control thrusters and hull integrity to handle the loads. My ship bitch is there were no Resistance capital ships. They should have had an epic battle over that planet sized weapon/station on the scale of Return of the Jedi. Oh and ground troops taking a direct hits from a X-Wings cannons should have resulted in tiny storm-trooper pieces not just a limp body. Guess that wouldn't make PG-13 though. |

I've been skipping the spoilers so, all I need to know is on a scale from 1-10 stars... What would you rate it. Side note. I still remember seeing The Return of the Jedi at age 9, opening day. Fond memories.

Carrie Fisher was fucking terrible.
They should have left her out of the movie. |

It felt like there was 20-25 minutes of decent film that was cut to keep it 2 hours. There was something missing, not sure what - but just something wasn't there.

Just didn't do much for me either. But I was a young kiddie back when ANH came out in the theatres. This one was basically a remake, but with no backstory since they assumed we all knew the old backstory. |

With the way they ended this one it really makes me wish it was 2017. I can't wait for episode 8.

Saw it last night. Definitely better than the prequels. Just didn't match the original trilogy. If I had to order them I'd say:
Empire Strikes Back A New Hope Return of the Jedi/The Force Awakens I can't decide which would be 3 or 4. The movie had flashes of greatness of the original trilogy but didn't quite keep the momentum. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Orphaned kid on a desert planet with force powers. Villain dressed in black looking for a droid. Death Star, but lets make it a planet this time. Good guys raid death planet to save the universe and their new found friend. Old geezer dies saving the new heroes Good guys save the universe (again) and blow up death planet. |

Quoted: It felt like there was 20-25 minutes of decent film that was cut to keep it 2 hours. There was something missing, not sure what - but just something wasn't there. View Quote In the first film, Episode IV, the director of photography was Gilbert Taylor. He established a look and pacing for the film that established an emotional resonance, the "visual poetry" of the film. Even though he only did the first film, he created something that lingered with the next two sequels, just off the strength of his contribution. For example, on Tattooine, when you have Luke staring at the sunset, just him looking, and you knowing his feelings about leaving, but Owen not letting him, and him feeling trapped, and with the music, the Force Theme, swelling and filling the emptiness, you feel, really feel what Luke is feeling. That's the magic of film. Getting the lighting and framing right, and pulling off a crucial emotional tone and motivator for a principal character, and doing it in 14 seconds, with no words, takes some real fucking talent. JJ Abrams does not have that caliber talent on his team. What people are missing in this film is that lack of emotional connection that was so strong in Episodes IV-VI. It's created subliminally through the visual image. No snappy dialog, great battle scenes, cool graphics, or novel alien design, can replace that. These guys get lost in the science of film-making, but they lose the art along the way. That's why it feels kinda flat. |

Not a spoiler:
What didn't escape notice at the Northern NV showing I attended last night were the several pro-RKBA references in the movie: 1. The character Finn is witness to unarmed civilians being slaughtered by the evil space Fascists, and then shortly after under attack on the surface of the desert scavenger planet he's himself unarmed and searching for a weapon and declares "Don't ANY of these people have a blaster?!" as the slaughter continues. 2. Han Solo gives the female Rey her first blaster. She says "I can take care of myself" and turns away. Han Solo narrows his eyes like a grizzly old uncle and says "I know. That's why I'm giving it to you." and forces it on her. 3. Han asks to borrow Chewie's long range high-capacity bowcaster when his own short range hand-blaster won't do the job. Han blows a few Stormtroopers up with it then turns to Chewie and says "Hey, I LIKE this gun!" These scenes got applause and hoots of acknowledgement from our redneck audience. No way were these accidental. |

I feel that they simply took events from after the New Jedi Order, changed names, and JJ did what he does. It feels all ST Into Darkness to me.
It wasn't as good as the original trilogy but it sure as hell was better than the prequels. |
