Now we're you riding while clearing the trail? I often do, but not that time. On that trip we went without chainsaws, saw that Donnager of a log about a mile from a road, dragged our bikes under, went about our day and then brought the saw back to deal with it. When we were out we ran into a work crew that was actually logging the trails out, mentioned the big log and realized that after telling a bunch of strangers in the woods that we could get the big one later we were kind of committed to it |

I have a 026 Pro w/16" & 20" bars. Great saw.
I have a 051 AV powerhead that I was given that probably hasn't run in 15 years. Was told it has ignition problems and they couldn't source the parts. Would love to get it running & usable, but at the same don't want it to turn into a full rebuild / money pit. |

I got the Oregon bar/chain combo from Amazon and had a chance to take it out today. I must say I am impressed. It is a little.bit more aggressive than the DeWalt chain, but I think that's because DeWalt figures the chainsaw is going to be used by the average joe-shmoe homeowner and made it less aggressive.
Oregon chain was throwing good chips and I was able to make 28 cuts on a very green maple tree with sizes from 4" to 12" diameter with an 8AH battery. The battery still had a bar left, but it got too hot. It's OK, got to a good stopping point anyway. Attached File Here is the package with the Oregon part number Attached File |

A neighbor has some trees that he wants cleared and one had already fallen from weather. I took the 271 and the DeWalt out to limb it, buck it and bring the rounds over to our yard with the tractor.
Did most of it with the 271 because it went up to 20" diameter, but I did try out the DeWalt on some of the bigger diameter areas. Didn't do well on the real hard center of the tree. Bogged down a lot and really just couldn't handle this big of hard wood. I figured this was the case, but it was a good test to see where the line was for me to need the gas saw. |

Got a Stihl MS271 and a Stihl tree pruner that I call my “pole saw.” Both are great tools. Use a DeWalt saw the most, its a beast. I turned my nose up at the battery saws when they first arrived on the scene, glad I got over it because it’s and awesome tool.

Quoted: I turned my nose up at the battery saws when they first arrived on the scene, glad I got over it because it’s and awesome tool. View Quote I did at first as well. Not just for the saw, but for all battery tools. Wasn't until I bit and bought a DeWalt 20V hammer drill that I saw the light of portability. I got the 20V saw because all my tools are 20V and wanted to make sure the batteries were all good across the tools. I'm sure the 60V would be fine, but I figured if I was going 60V for the saw, I'd probably just need to bring out the 271. |

Took the DeWalt 20V with the 14" Oregon bar/chain out today and tried it out on some sections that needed to be bucked. A couple pieces of pine in various stages of seasoning. Did fine with diameters up to about 10", but had problems with anything bigger. Kept bogging down and had some vibration with bigger stuff. Definitely going to be used with the smaller diameter stuff. Now that I have the DeWalt and the 271, I wonder if I need a 170 to fill a gap? Is this a disease?

I love this saw. MS 362 with a 20" Sugi Hara laminated bar. 3/8" pitch chain, full chisel, 0.063 gauge, 72 links, and 36 cutters.
This saw will also reliably pull a 36" chain, but it's full skip chain. A full skip 36" has fewer cutters than a standard 20". Attached File Attached File |

Stihl
MS180 with a muffler mod and a carb swap so it's adjustable and a 14" bar with a 3/8lp chain. 201T that's currently stock but I am planning on sending it out for some porting. 028AV super that my dad bought new. Pulls a 20" bar great but it rips with an 18". 036 pro. It's ugly and beat up but runs amazing. Has a 20" bar with a full comp chain. 036 pro that i bought after it had been straight gassed. Thing looks almost new. Put a aftermarket piston and jug on it and a 25" bar with a full skip chain. Miscellaneous saws Poulan 42cc with a 18" bar. Poulan 42cc with a 12" bar. These are great for cutting roots and shit you don't want to do with the nice stuff. And I can leave them in the truck and no one will touch them McCulloch 10-10 with a 20" bar. Homelite super XL with a 20" bar. Lombard Comango with a 20" bar. All 3 of these are old and loud as hell but they sound amazing compared to newer stuff. Clone saws. (China crap) 250 with a 16" bar. 372XP with a 25" Stihl bar. 460 with a 24" Sugihara light bar. 660 with a 28" Sugihara light bar for bucking and a 36" for milling. 660 unassembled kit saw that I have a big bore piston and cylinder for and a 32" Sugihara Light bar for. Bought these strictly as toys to play with except for the pre-assembled 660. That was bought for milling with an Alaskan mill. Haven't done any milling yet but it does a great job falling and bucking up firewood. The 250 is decent, the 460 rips and is every bit as powerful as my buddies MS460 but probably won't last as long and the 372 needs some carb tuning. The others are as they came from the factory and i don't see the need to mess with anything. |

Muratic acid on a q tip will dissolve any aluminum transfer onto the bore’s plating. Sometimes it cleans up to use again, sometimes not.
Be in a open area, gloves and glasses on. Be sure not to get it on any aluminum you don’t want ate up, like inside the ports. I may have a spare 660 jug, going to be high though. |
