Anyone suggest any sound effects yet?

It's been talked about in this thread, but kids were talking about it today.    We will see if Robotics can come through with the rest of it first.

Looks like we got the helicopter shifted in position enough.

We added an anchor in the corner of the ceiling, above the drop ceiling, then attached a cable to the front cable of the helicopter and tightened it, pulling the cable about 9".

Once it pulled the helo out of the corner, we then needed to shift the tail cable over to the left a bit to straighten out the bird, and get the gap the same on both sides of the tail.

Students will complete it in place.   No more moving it.   Tail is screwed and glued to the fuselage.    Many of our details now will be things that span the two halves, or are on the bottom and can't have things touching them, like the lift.

This one is my second favorite one, second only to the submarine. I don't know if you could ever top that one. This one is damn close though!

Do you have a website or an Instagram that you keep pictures of all your builds on?

You really should make a photo album of your different projects and the end results. It's quite amazing what you and your kids have done.

At first, I wanted to ......

But honestly, I don't know why not.  The mirrors just didn't turn out as well as I would have hoped last year, and they were too much money.

I've still got lots of blue paint.  I suppose if someone complains, we can just replace the tiles.  The tiles, other than the ones that go around the cables can be painted in the classroom and put up later.

Update 3/25.2

Students worked on the rail on the port side of the tail fuselage today.  It was slow going and a bit frustrating for them at times.

We also got to spraying a bit more grey on the starboard side.  We brought it down a bit further and a little more out on the nose.

Ceiling tiles are ready for us to get those blades up there......or take them all down and paint them blue.

No clue, but it's only in the port side, and on almost every blackhawk version we've got photos of.

That picture of Marine One, you posted earlier, from below,  really has some nice detail of it.

My vote for next year is the Enola Gay or a B17 in honor of our WW2 vets. .

Keep the pictures coming. I showed by wife earlier and she was amazed at the detail of the white house.

I missed a lot of the build details, do you mind explaining how you did the white house? Is it foam, wood, plastic? Built from scratch or a model?

At the beginning of this thread there should be lots of build photos of the White House.

It's made mostly of drawing board, 2x4 frame, plywood,  and a few other minor materials.

All from scratch, and images found online, just like the helicopter.

Update 3/26
Looks like we have enough people interested in the new President Trump letter tshirts to go ahead with an order.  I'll try to get funds rounded up for kids in the next week or so, then share a link to place orders.

When I'm not pulling him off the job to do welding, our pilots creator keeps getting closer on the clothing.

Robotics showed up with the latest prototype for the door carriage.  We test fit it and found we needed a few modifications to the track and surrounding structure.

Here they are cleaning up and trimming some things that the carriage was hanging up on.

After trimming,  clean up with the shop vac.

We continue to try to clean up and fix our rotor blades.  We think we now have a method to follow to get them where we want.  We finished one today and will try to get it up tomorrow morning.

More airbrush transition fade.  We still have much to go on the tail fuselage.

Students wanted to smooth out the transition between halves, so caulking was added today, and will need to be repainted.

The HF antenna was finished today and painted.

Students were talking quite a bit about what it was and how close or far away they were with their guesses.

Update 3/27

More work on the radar dome for the top of the fuselage.

Much of the rest of the day was spent on the rotor blade instalation.    When students weren't working on parts of that, they were touching up paint at the midsection, and installing two more "fins" on the bottom of the fuselage.

The first two rotor blades......

We ended up getting three of four up.  One of my airbrush artists is not fond of our fade and wants to attempt to rework them.  She's got a good plan and she will begin that soon.  Track is going to pull some of my students over the next couple days, so I'm not sure when it all will happen.

Robotics showed up with the carriages again for the sliding door, and we discussed with my students what needs to happen to get them fitted to the door.  That will happen tomorrow morning.  Definitely will jot be an easy solution.

B29 or B52, wasn't one of those where we thought they should be at 1:1 scale with the tail in one room, cockpit in another, wingtips far out, bomb bay in the cafeteria?

This one looks great now.  I always get a kick out of thinking 2 pages ago "well, maybe this is the year when it doesn't get finished" and then seemingly the next days it's mounted and "Wow, that's a helicopter!"

Update 3/28

We now have all four blades up.

We also got the radar dome finished.  No one will ever see it  I don't think there is a single spot a viewer can actually see it..   We know it's there so I guess that is the most important part.

More antenna under the fuselage were finished up.

Work on the interior to close up the gaps in the ceiling around the rotor head.  We don't want people to see daylight when looking up into the fuselage through the door.

Our muralist is back!!!!!!  She agreed to add a few more details.  The house on the left behind my dad's, and a stop sign.  Next will be another helicopter landed on one of the bridges.

The fourth blade.

Look close at the blur.....we started the airbrush details.

This one still needs a little more touch up.  She's working on her method perfection.

We also started messing with the ideas around the vapor trails.  I think I have enough clear pvc pipe to do what we want.    I checked on ordering more but it is $25 per 8' section and I have to order a minimum of 5.  That is way ore than I want to spend and what we need.

We will see if we can make it work with our stock on hand.

Tomorrow we begin working on adding the carriages to the sliding door.  We discussed a plan today and I have a team ready to work on them.  It will be challenging.  The door is thin and fragile, and the specs need to be perfect.  It will also suck installing the door into the fuselage.  There will not be much room to do it.

Looks good, please include freshman w/yardstick in all of them next time.  Have him wear an 18% grey T-Shirt if possible.

The airbrush artist is doing well!   Except if she keeps improving, she'll have to re-do the first one.

The ONLY nit-picky thing I can say is "Hood looks dented", but with the missing windows, I suppose "bird strike" is acceptable.   Still waiting on the faux-ITO/MgF2 coating spray?

The nose is the nose.    That gloss paint is unforgiving.

Our pilots should be dressed soon, and we will be able to finish the front windows and trim.

We worked on that back blade first as it had the worst fade to start with and if it is messed up, it's in the back.
