According to the Post Mistress, our shirts arrived the 26th, but we got 'em this morning as we were at Fiesta in San Antonio.
They look great Guns! |

Got the shirt today!
Power cord is looking awesome. Would a light cream color work for the jump to the helo to hide it in the wall color? Now that you mention power... Is anything actually using that power yet? Did I miss something? |

I'll see about the cord jump. Light may be the way to go. |

Just sent off another letter to President Trump.
I thanked him for his wonderful letter to my students, and updated him on our progress, and told him about our latest t-shirts inspired by his letter. If we get a response, I'll share. |

I'm told he will try testing the tail rotor wiring again tomorrow. He was working tonight on printing a motor bracket for the sliding door. So, to answer your question, no, no power yet, but I'm hoping by the end of the week, we might have lights and tail rotor. I'll see about the cord jump. Light may be the way to go. Just got caught up on this thread.
Well done to Guns and all the students. |

Wow!
If you’re students don’t realize it now they will someday - exposure to this type of creative building & problem solving is a fantastic foundation for one’s future. Having the opportunity to be part of a project, helicopter or otherwise, where young minds are challenged and encouraged to utilize their interests to build something like this... it’s absolutely fantastic. Fifteen years out of high school, I still communicate regularly with a very short list of HS educators who fostered the creative problem solving in my young mind. This is incredibly inspiring work! |

I thought I mentioned testing the color of LED with your lens tint before it's too late about 20 pages ago.

Maybe we ought to firemission POTUS to do a speech for the graduation.
Again for Guns as teacher of the year. Hey! It can't hurt to try. Big kudos to Guns and all the students. Great looking project. |
|
Is the tail rotor as loud as it sounds in the video, or is that some other buzzing sound?

Didn't you include a Gold Spike with the train last year? Friday of next week is the 150th anniversary of driving the golden spike |

Red and White are Easy. Finding a "Plug and Play" green LED that is bright will be a challenge, the only place is for boat replacement bulbs and they get pricey for a 1W Green. These are close, but you might need a heat sink (just a chunk of metal stuck to the metal on the star, this is the type of LED in most flashlights, the little "star" shaped board. The added bonus is this already has the current limiting controller on it to run from 5V-12V. Link Failed To Load Product Data Could also try the dimmer dashboard lighting which you can solder a wire to the bayonet plugs: ½W Green Dashboard bulb (From China, wouldn't arrive in time) Failed To Load Product Data |

I believe we have dedicated wireless connection now for the White Hawk electronics!

Would it be easier to put some green and red stage lighting filters inside the lenses?

Quoted: I'm guessing the paint will make it dimmer, but still a bit pale. Those are really intense bulbs. If they're controlled by the Arduino, just tell robotics guy to run them PWM at 50% to cut their brightness down a bit, maybe even 30% duty cycle. Will still have the pale to dark spot from white, but a red bulb would be cheap and easy to replace, only hard one is the green, and that's on the opposite side, so a dimmer dashboard mod type would be fine. Update 5/1 Students finished up the touch up paint on the underside of the ceiling edge, and adding of a 3D cloud bank. We also got the lenses painted with a thicker coat of paint on the inside, and remounted to the helo. I didn't get a chance to see them tested yet. Hopefully it looks better than before. https://i.imgur.com/m6S9RgU.jpg The white strip across the bottom of the windows is a stencil we are working on. It will cover the edge of the windows and hopefully streamline the edge a bit. It's very difficult to get exactly the right angles, with the same thickness all the way through.....and have a perfect straight edge. We think we are close and will make one out of drawing board soon. https://i.imgur.com/q1FcJGI.jpg The mini White House is getting closer to done. https://i.imgur.com/b3uHhJS.jpg A second painter has volunteered to help put with the mini memorials. https://i.imgur.com/dVguWni.jpg View Quote Why are the mini monuments blue? For a “wing wiper” the hair is good to go! I believe the sleeves are a little long, maybe cut them another 1/4”?
Other than that everything looks to be falling in place! Oh, don’t add any gloss to the hair, it would look fake! |

Pilot's hair as stunning! From the photo, it looks like it was molded that way and not modified. Even trying to be picky on the hair, I can't see an issue, my eye keeps running to the poor guys jugular that needs a band aid. The lens looks amazing, looks like a green LED is actually in it. Spectacular outcome. I hope the solderless breadboard isn't the permanent mount if it's carrying current/power for lights/motor, resistance of the contacts does climb over time and it'll melt. I've melted a few of them with too much current. Breadboards are only rated for 500mA and 2.5W total dissipation (125 mA @ 13.8V aka 12V). If soldering isn't desired, a screw terminal strip can be used to connect wires together, how cars were wired back in the old days. https://i.imgur.com/7ucx7vL.jpg View Quote There is a lot of clean up that he'll do. |

Need a before and after of the pilot, that's just awesome work.
I agree with leaving hair as is, or putting a mat fixative on it if it needs something. |

I forgot to add these last night. I took these as it was still hanging in the plotter. CAD is working to get us a presentation display of their work from the original drawing. We will hopefully frame this and hang it under the trees. If you look closely, you can see the kids work, overlapping the original. It has all the individual bulkhead ribs, spine, and orientation points on the outside. https://i.imgur.com/yXYXhfx.jpg https://i.imgur.com/mMz9GkJ.jpg View Quote |
