OP, you seem like a nice guy, so don't take this the wrong way. The Model T Ford was a great car in 1911. I don't want one for my daily driver, but I can appreciate it for what it is. Obsolete.

You don't haver to own a 1911 to carry. Sometimes it can be just for fun. It's true.

My better option is lightweight and a striker. My fun range time option is the 1911. Both can mutually exist.

So, get a model A & put a chevy v8 with powerglide in it. Or a nice 1911 that you can tune. Some folks like to "tinker" & don't give a tinker's damn about your opinion

The steel frame is great.

As is the case with almost any firearm, there will always be people who preach to others "stop liking what I don't like".

There are plenty of firearms I don't really like all that much, but it doesn't bother me that other people like them.  Other folks can spend their money on whichever firearms they like, and I'll spend mine on whatever I like.

I even accept that plenty of the firearms I don't like are quite popular.  That popularity shows me that there are plenty of people who like firearms that I don't like..and I'm OK with that.  I don't feel the need to attempt to dissuade anyone from the firearm of their choice, and I don't really care if they don't like the firearms that I prefer.

Some people don't like fine steaks, Ferraris, beautiful women, fine booze or great cigars...and that too is OK with me.  That just leaves more for me.

There are many firearms from the early 20th century that still are useful.

The Mauser 98 action is still excellent as a hunting rifle. There are many shotguns from that era that are still excellent

The Smith & Wesson M&P revolver is still a useful sidearm.

The cartridges from the early 20th century are still as useful today as they were then. ( .30-06, 8mm Mauser, .30-30, 12 guage shotgun, .45 ACP, .38 Special and 9mm Parabellum for example)

The 1911 is no longer the most advanced semi auto pistol; however a properly built example is still as good as it ever was.

I'm a 1986 model millennial. I have no problems with 1911s.

And yes I know that mine is full of investment castings and MIM parts but it has worked like a champ in the near decade I've owned it. Its had a shit ton of lead swc reloads shot through it with no problem along with various other types of ammo.

I've heard the Model T analogy many times and the Model T analogy is retarded.

A Model T could not keep up with the speed of modern highway traffic. A model T also had to be started with a crank. It used leaded gasoline and it did not have the reliability to drive all the way cross country

A well made 1911 will reliably fire modern .45 ACP defensive ammunition and it is still a good pistol.

The Ruger Blackhawk is a modern take on a 19th century firearm and I never hear anyone criticizing it.  The Blackhawk is another example whereby an older design is still valuable today

I am tired of seeing people misuse the word obsolete just because they don’t like something. The Model T is obsolete because it is no longer produced or used commonly.

The 1911 is still in current production and widely used.

What I really want is those old school imitation ivory grips that used to be so available on E-Bay.

I dig those naked chicks wrapped in either the Stars & Stripes or the Stars & Bars.

Well, not totally naked, they are wearing kepis as well as their respective flags.

Being from a border state, I would have had to have bought a set of each, one for each side.

I have 2 1911s and 3 Glocks.

The 1911s have had fewer malfunctions than the Glocks, and have more rounds through them too-though the Glock issues were with extraction and ejection, not feeding.
