357SIG can send heavier loads vastly faster than 9mm. Add that to a bottle neck catridge that makes feeding flawless and you have a serious round.
Ive seen side-by-side Glocks in 357S and 9mm and its a night-and-day comparison. 115gr 357SIG is a light-out round at 1550-1600 fps |

I prefer 9x23mm Winchester. 357 SIG doesn't work real well in 1911 type guns. So much for the theory that bottle-necked cases feed better.

Why doesn’t everyone just shoot 44 magnum out of a big hos revolver like dirty Harry? Handgun power is a trade-off. I think 9 mm is the best balance between power, capacity, and shootability.
I think most people agree with me, which is why 357 Sig never took off, 40 Smith and Wesson took off and then died, and 10 mm just dies, and then struggles to come back and kind of dies again. And then there was that 45 from Glock. |

I don’t recall exactly what they said but Glock recently stated that 10mm was on the rise and I believe their second best seller. |

Full power .357 sig is awesome. Best plinking round I ever had easy access to was the privi stuff. The cost and all the watered down ammo is what stopped it from ever taking off. If it was like $15 a box for 50 rounds I would be all over it. I still have about 300 rounds of hst and gold dots laying around. 9mm is still cool too. I just love clearing out an indoor range with my fireballs and thunder barking.

For comparisons : Only 11x .357SIG offerings. 43x .40S&W , 44x .380ACP , and 36x .357Magnum. Also considering more manufacturers are offering new gun models chambered in 10mmAuto suggests it's here to stay |

9mm Parabellum for me.
People can shoot what they want and I can see how the .357 Sig or the .40 S&W might have some advantages in some situations. Thing is though, once you get to a .380 ACP current studies suggest that increasing the caliber or velocity does little to increase "stopping power," whatever that really is, up until you get to rifle velocities or shotgun sized bullet diameters. All of this assumes reasonably good ammo of course. Anyway, standard pressure 9mm with a premium hollowpoint is just fine. And this means you just need to worry about one kind of defensive handgun ammo as 9mm is not too harsh even in tiny pistols, is easy to shoot in full sized guns, and is about as effective as any other handgun. Note that I did say "about as effective." +p ammo or heavier calibers are bound to be somewhat more effective, it's just that the difference is apparently marginal. |

I like 357 SIG on paper but it's basically dead. 9mm is cheaper, has far more guns available in it, and does almost as well for all practical purposes.

I don't like my P229 in 357; it's ok but not super comfortable after a couple boxes of ammo. A Gen 4 Glock 35 with a 357 barrel on the other hand...much nicer. I wonder if a Gen 5 would be even more comfortable...

I shoot 9mm 60% of the time, because it is inexpensive.
.357 Sig 10% and .40-Super 30% (I reload the .40-Super so I can shoot it more). It’s shocking how much faster and harder hitting the 357 and Super are. |
