When the Soviet Union broke up, they were for sale @ $100k each with 2 spare crated engines.

Huh, I didn't think the 29's were that old.

Ones for sale are from 84..first flight was 77.

I agree. Just how much cash would it set you back to fly one of those things for an hour. Anyone know?

Probably a lot more given the maintenance domestically produced jets need.

No idea if any particular special expertise would be needed to work on one but I imagine anyone seriously entertaining buying this can probably afford to fly it.

No.  Probably 10000 lbs fuel per hour, so ~1500 gallons at $3ish/gallon per hour in fuel cost alone.

Group buy?

ARFcom Air Force??

Then all we need is a nuke

Do some shopping for armor and other goodies in A-stan and we could muster a pretty respectable force.

I bet it would be $10k an hour or damn close to it.

Maintenance costs on those are going to be astronomical.

That would be fun to violate a TFR with. I wonder if you got a running start if you could run the interceptors out of gas.

A number of members here own milsurp vehicles. A few years back an anti-gun, tank collecting Microsoft employee threw a temper tantrum because he tried to acquire a Panzer IV and the seller sold it to somebody else or something. The bigger toys are available if you have the pocketbook for them, but don't you dare try to make an auto sear in your garage, or you're terrible.

I haven't seen anything like that at the Heber airport, so I wondered they're stored somewhere else?

Yeah you prolly could short term. The early 29s are beasts kinematically. Of course you got like a 100mi range in burner, soooooo.

And just basic floor mats without all the fancy electronics. If the damned Russians would just build a basic fighter jet, everyone would buy one. I don't understand why they don't understand this.

F16s push 8k/hr and more modern like a 22 or 35 is somewhere near 30 so I'd guess low 20s? Mind you thats a nation-state but still
