So unrelated.

That kitty cat upper (which still needs the gas block pinned )... I was going to build it on the REAPER lower, but as PSA kinda missed Halloween by a little bit... I'm not super feeling it at this point.

Should I stay with the Reaper... which should be out soon.

Should I just build it on my SNEK lower which I don't have other plans for...

Or wait for the "" lower and build the kitty on one of those?

Or something else?

I would lockout/tagout that gun if it the gas block is not pinned! That is what live leak videos are made of!

I would be more concerned with there being some rando firing guns in my workspace.

But worst case scenario, with an unpinned gas block, is that it falls off and the gun turn into a straight-pull bolt action.

You can build your own pretty cheap:

^those are what I'm using

Then just grab a PSA BCG when they are $60 (or free with ammo, lol).

Reading your IM... A Crockpot or Electric Casserole might work... but you'd want to get it hot early. The good think about dedicated hot pots is that they get hot REALLY quick. Like in 5 minutes what would take a crock pot the better part of an hour to do.

(Also, you can buy ones with little grills... so you can do Korea BBQ while you make soup.)

Or double sided ones... so you can do a spicy soup... and a little bitch soup at the same time:

***

Anyway, you start with a base. Any kind of bouillon will work, but I love these brands if you can find it:

(They come in all kinds of flavors, so pick one that is appropriate for what you plan on cooking).

But don't go crazy with the base... the food you cook will add its own flavor.

***

When you are waiting for the soup to boil, make your dipping sauce. You can make it how ever you want... my favorite is:

Sesame Oil

1 Raw Egg

Sesame Paste

Black Bean in Chili

And some chopped up scallions.

***

Then, you just start dipping your food in the boil water, pulling it out when cooked and eating it.

You'll use the soup for several days, just add water as you go along (and base if needed).

IF you have a two sided pot... I recommend cooking the meat stuff in one side and the veggie stuff in the other, but that's just me.

As for the actual food... you can cook just about anything you'd like... but I recommend:

***

Watercress

Taro (cook the Taro a bit longer... it gets almost buttery)

Lotus Root

Enoki

Black Ear

Fish Balls (Or beef, chicken, whatever, I prefer the fish)

Baby Squid

Tofu puffs

Noodles
(you want ether, fresh noodles... or at least the soft variety/partially cooked... the dried stuff takes too long):

And the meat!

We usually get a mix of Pork Belly, Lamb, Beef, and Beef Tongue or Tripe (stomach). But get whatever you want, as long as it is fresh and thinly sliced.

Anyway... in the end, you should be set up like this:

***

Just through stuff in the pot.

Eat 'til you are full.

Drink some of the now SUPER FLAVORED soup you made.

And put the pot away until the next meal.

Once I was done with it, it would glow without the light.

Reading your IM... A Crockpot or Electric Casserole might work... but you'd want to get it hot early. The good think about dedicated hot pots is that they get hot REALLY quick. Like in 5 minutes what would take a crock pot the better part of an hour to do.

(Also, you can buy ones with little grills... so you can do Korea BBQ while you make soup.)

https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0878/7052/products/tomyang_14___0765_1_Website.jpg?v=1520492954

Or double sided ones... so you can do a spicy soup... and a little bitch soup at the same time:

https://www.seriouseats.com/images/2014/12/20141125-hot-pot-guide-shao-zhong-13.jpg

***

Anyway, you start with a base. Any kind of bouillon will work, but I love these brands if you can find it:

(They come in all kinds of flavors, so pick one that is appropriate for what you plan on cooking).

https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/ODAwWDkyOA==/z/0cAAAOSwsDZcH1oS/$_35.JPG

https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/Z5IAAOSwKLxbXgsN/s-l640.jpg

But don't go crazy with the base... the food you cook will add its own flavor.

***

When you are waiting for the soup to boil, make your dipping sauce. You can make it how ever you want... my favorite is:

Sesame Oil

1 Raw Egg

Sesame Paste

https://imagesvc.timeincapp.com/v3/mm/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn-image.myrecipes.com%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2Fstyles%2Fmedium_2x%2Fpublic%2Fsesamepast3.jpg%3Fitok%3DDXBCK7mo&w=450&c=sc&poi=face&q=85

Black Bean in Chili

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81%2Bsopn%2BiQL._SY355_.jpg

And some chopped up scallions.

***

Then, you just start dipping your food in the boil water, pulling it out when cooked and eating it.

You'll use the soup for several days, just add water as you go along (and base if needed).

IF you have a two sided pot... I recommend cooking the meat stuff in one side and the veggie stuff in the other, but that's just me.

As for the actual food... you can cook just about anything you'd like... but I recommend:

***

Watercress

Taro (cook the Taro a bit longer... it gets almost buttery)

Baby Squid

Tofu puffs

Noodles
(you want ether, fresh noodles... or at least the soft variety/partially cooked... the dried stuff takes too long):

https://www.nibblypig.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/IMG_2559-873x1024.jpg

We usually get a mix of Pork Belly, Lamb, Beef, and Beef Tongue or Tripe (stomach). But get whatever you want, as long as it is fresh and thinly sliced.

beitodesstrafe did you get the IM I sent two weeks ago (2/6) looking for a one pot recipe? I am thinking ARFCOM IM sucks goat ass and you never did? Or you are high on rattle can fumes and sake and building a shrine to cat gods in your living room.
The second one... sorry I completely forgot about the message.

Sure, I'll give everyone here a basic primer in hotpot cooking.

Give me a sec. (or a few).

You are very welcome.

I may throw it in it's own thread here in a bit for GD at large.

Here's a pretty affordable pot on Amazon with good reviews:
